Negima! Manga Vol 35 Ch 321 Review

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Negima! Manga Vol 35 Ch 321The Mahora headmaster Konoemon, Eishun, and Al observe the appearance of the Gravekeeper’s Palace and know it is bad.  Al observes that Negi is fighting with the tool of the Magic World’s creator (Fate).

At the Gravekeeper’s Palace, Fate finds himself truly enjoying his fight with Negi and the two compliment each other’s fighting ability.  However, Fate also acknowledges that Negi is now stronger than he is although at a price which Negi says he’s willing to pay.  Fate sees the image of the Mahora campus behind Negi which causes Negi to turn around and look in amazement.

Back at Mahora, Zazie, Eva, and Chachazero continue to observe the fight in the Gravekeeper’s Palace in the sky.  Eva recognizes Magia Erebea’s usage, which Chachazero recalls was an ability Eva learned while she was still weak.  Further, Chachazero remembers that Jack won the Magia Erebea scroll off of Eva in a bet, which annoys Eva to remember even though at the time, she’d not felt that anyone would benefit from the scroll as it was for a shinso vampire.  Zazie asks if Eva is not pleased that her disciple and son of the man she loved has mastered her technique.  She denies this and begins to make a point about a normal human using a shinso vampire technique.

Fumika startles Eva by asking what a shinso vampire is  and Fuka compliments Zazie’s dress and Chizuru sets up a telescope. The cheerleaders Sakurako, Misa, and Madoka also arrive to Eva’s amazement. There’s all sorts of speculation on what this could be, including a UFO, though Sakurako actually guesses correctly.  Ayaka arrives and asks Eva to tell her the truth of what is going on before addressing Eva as “Dark Evangal,” revealing she knows more than Eva suspected. Eva wonders where she learned this and Ayaka decides to not force her question to Eva.  Negi, in lightning form, can be seen on the telescope as Ayaka announces that they will be supporting Negi.

As the girls show their excitement with Hakase having multiple telescopes and Sa-chan bringing in meat buns, Zazie, Chachazero, and Eva talk about their foolish classmates, who’s behavior is something Zazie likes.  Chachazero wonders if they won’t all get slaughtered by not knowing the truth and Zazie wonders if Eva shouldn’t stop them.  Eva decides to let them continue and says she’ll somehow handle any problems that might happen, something that causes Zazie to tease Eva.

Thoughts/Review:

Short review: I love this chapter.  ^_^

For the longer review, I’m really beginning to get the feeling that Akamatsu-sensei may cause there to be some sort of fallout from the events on the Magic World to impact Mahora.  For starters, he has two former members of Ala Rubra (Al and Eishun) on site.  While Al’s magic is supposed to be limited except during times when the World Tree glows, the World Tree is glowing and so I expect him to be at full power, though it is possible that if he is an illusionary being, he won’t be of too much help.  Eishun will be though as will the headmaster and all of the other school mages.

Then there’s Eva and Zazie.  While Eva is still cursed, Akamatsu-sensei has already established that a powered up World Tree not only allows Chachazero to move and fly, it also powers Eva up.  There’s enough energy coming off the World Tree that Eva might be at full strength even if she’s still bound to the Mahora grounds.  I’m not sure what Akamatsu-sensei might throw at Eva, but I would suspect it might have less to do with fighting and more to do with protecting her foolish classmates from massive chunks of falling debris from a disintegrating Gravekeeper’s Palace.

I loved the talk between Eva, Zazia, and Chachazero, the later being so awesome as usual.  Akamatsu-sensei provides us with the briefest of explanations on how Jack Rakan acquired her Magia Erebea scroll but is careful to not state on whether Eva lost the scroll on the Magic World (my presumption) or on Earth.  I really do wish we’d learn more about Eva’s past and her time with Ala Rubra.

Anyway, Eva does appear concerned over Negi’s mastering her technique.  When Eva created Magia Erebea, she was already a vampire and was desperate for an edge to overcome her weaknesses.  As Eva learned more and became powerful enough, she no longer needed to use ME though undoubtedly, she can still do so to make herself even more powerful (and as an aside, that’s how I’m guessing Eva will still be more powerful than Negi at this point).  Eva has already paid a price but because Eva was a vampire and a shinso vampire at that, the cost to Eva was probably be less than the cost will end up being to Negi.  So we’ll see what further price Negi might have to pay down the road.

I loved how Ayaka’s research led her to know Eva is also the “Dark Evangal” and she lets Eva know this. One wonders if Eva might end up telling Ayaka something.

Still, Eva is apparently ready to defend her classmates should the need arise, which is something surprising, even to Zazie.  I loved it though because as Chachamaru noted what seems like ages ago, Eva has changed since Negi’s arrival on campus.  ^_^  This would be a further evidence of her change and revealing that even though she tries to always look aloof and uncaring, she really does care to a degree.

Can’t wait to read chapter 322.  ^_^

Interesting thought. If Al is a inhabitant of the Magic World, Maybe the reason he has to reside in the World Tree is that overwise he can’t survive. Not sure if this has been brought up before, but maybe Al can go and help out Negi now :P.

zazie reminding eva of a certain robot was really funny.
And sakurako is definately not normal as she never looses a bet. Does she have a magical past as well?

EVA = TSUNDERE!!!! (Though we already knew that.)

All I can say is I commend Akamatsu for his ability to continue working. Isn’t Japan currently in code red in the nuclear crisis. I mean the fallout just hit California!

Negi is not human anymore and Evangeline is not human either. And the fact that they are both beings with inmeasurable power makes me think that the solution that Negi is thinking to the magic world crisis has to do precisely with that. Well, that’s just my personal wish, thinking that it would be nice for Evangeline to become a normal girl again 🙂

negima is getting too good. looks like everything is converging and all the loose ends will start being tied up…

masquerade is rapidly moving towards its breaking point, where (as a minimum) all of 3a knows of it with Ayaka and the twins gaining awareness of that there is more to it than the what the eye can see, we’re soon reaching 1 hand when counting students in the class which is in the dark about everything

I have a bad feeling, I think Negi might use Magia Erebea to absorve the energy of the magical ritual. I dunno but it feels that way to me.

  10. that magica erebea stuff sounds plausible… just that the ritual may destroy negi’s powers (or make it difficult for him to conjure magic. looking back at the end of the festival arc, this may lead to why chao has a hard time picking up magic, and since negi eventually saves magicus mundus (as hinted by chao, a descendant of negi), magica erebea seems to be the key to his future lineage’s powers

i think ME will be use to “heal” the magic world.. if magical-worlds magic-power is decreasing because the populations have been using it continually to grow, fight, and so on (making it an open cycle)
then adding a perfected ME into the system will made it completely recycle every magical power that has been used (making it a truly complete cycle)

I just had that strange idea striking me from nowhere.

What if Ayaka = Arika? With all the identity or memory changing magic… or actually even without it. They do look similar. She is very close to Asuna (Vol.15 ch.131 p.18) and her fawning over Negi might be a lot more wholesome than we thought.

I found my new favorite epileptic tree 🙂

Zazie is full of win now

*lol* She went from non-talker to heavy talker with Eva. Still interesting to see what she ends up doing before all is said and done.

If Al is a inhabitant of the Magic World, Maybe the reason he has to reside in the World Tree is that overwise he can’t survive.

That’s my theory. Initially, I thought Nagi might have cursed him too but the talk of him “recovering” suggests that he may have been victim of a REWRITE attempt and thus needed the World Tree to stay alive.

And sakurako is definately not normal as she never looses a bet. Does she have a magical past as well?

That hasn’t been revealed but she’s certainly special. ^_^

EVA = TSUNDERE!!!! (Though we already knew that.)

    *LOL* OK, point taken. ^_~

All I can say is I commend Akamatsu for his ability to continue working. Isn’t Japan currently in code red in the nuclear crisis. I mean the fallout just hit California!

There’s been some SERIOUS over-hyping of the situation in Japan. The folks in Japan that I know are not happy at all with the Western media. I’ve been tinkering with an article about this for over a week now but haven’t quite gotten it down properly. I’ll still work on it.

Well, that’s just my personal wish, thinking that it would be nice for Evangeline to become a normal girl again

You know, I can almost see Akamatsu-sensei doing something like this as the manga ends.

negima is getting too good. looks like everything is converging and all the loose ends will start being tied up…

    True. Of course, I’m still hoping for a lot more stuff before everything is tied up. ^_^;;;

There has been a theory for a very long time that Akamatsu-sensei plans to have Negi pactio with all of his students (and on a personal level, that’s a gold mine for Akamatsu-sensei and Kodansha). So eventually, he’d need to work in their becoming aware of the truth if he does indeed plan to have pactios for all the girls.

I have a bad feeling, I think Negi might use Magia Erebea to absorve the energy of the magical ritual. I dunno but it feels that way to me.

    Interesting theory.

just that the ritual may destroy negi’s powers (or make it difficult for him to conjure magic.

I suppose that’s possible. However, I think that what will happen on Mars is that the Magic World will be saved but with little or no magic. Whether that affects Negi or not remains to be seen. After all, his magical abilities may just not pass down to his lineage.

What if Ayaka = Arika? With all the identity or memory changing magic… or actually even without it. They do look similar. She is very close to Asuna (Vol.15 ch.131 p.18) and her fawning over Negi might be a lot more wholesome than we thought.

Ayaka appears to have parents on Earth and no ties to the Magic World. If Arika is hiding out on Earth, I’d say that Nekane is the best choice.

  16. junior says:

I’ve long suspected that CE’s plan involved shunting all of the magic energy from the magical world through the World Tree portal. I’ve no clue why CE would want to do that, but the fact that they specifically destroyed all of the gates except for the one connected to Mahora gave me that suspicion. The palace showing up above the Academy suggests to me that there might be something to that.

We’ll see how it plays out.
