Hayate the Combat Butler Chapter 462 Review

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Hayate the Combat Butler Chapter 462Nagi and Ah-tan have shaved ice, where Ah-tan explains about the original nine King’s Jewel. Nagi figures it is in Mikado’s castle, and that Mikado’s true objective is to gather the other stones. Ah-tan agrees with this assessment. As such, to meet Mikado’s condition of getting a stone for Nagi to get back into the mansion, Hayate realizes that the girls are suggesting that they take the one Mikado already has, and give it to him.

To address Hayate’s concern about the idea that they are stealing Mikado’s jewel just to give it back to them, Nagi says that if a manga magazine was on the ground and one returned it to a shelf, that would’t be stealing. Ah-tan concurs, saying it would be an act of kindness.

With that, Hayate, Maria, and Hayate head to Mikado’s for a visit. After Nagi and Mikado have their usual greeting, Nagi has a strategy session with Hayate to get to the treasure vault. The vault is protected by death traps, but Nagi is going to shut down the electronic locks, cameras, backup power, and electronic traps for an hour, giving Hayate that much time to reach his objective.

With blue tooth communications on, Nagi sits at her computer and does her thing while Hayate enters the vault after Nagi opens it. Communication quickly cuts out and Hayate finds himself narrowly avoiding death from a ceiling spear trap.

Thoughts/Review:

After Hata-sensei trolled us last week, I thought he might decide to do some random comedy bits for a while.  So I was pleasantly surprised to see that Hata-sensei went back to the plot of getting Nagi back into the mansion.

I was amused by Ah-tan’s and Nagi’s discussion over shaved ice.  The two of them were on the same wavelength from the start when it came to the plan to take Mikado’s own jewel and give it back to him.  They get along so well in this chapter, I now see an opening to have Athena give up on Hayate, should Hata-sensei go that route.  (I’m still shipping Hayate x Athena.)

As to Hayate’s mission, not a lot to say about it at this point. We’ll see how long Hata-sensei drags it out with death defying traps and such.

Hayate the Combat Butler Chapter 462

With Hata-sensei taking the time to remind the audience that the 10th anniversary of the manga is forthcoming, I do wonder what sort of thing he has planned to celebrate.

So while there wasn’t much I found to discuss in the chapter, I did enjoy it a lot.

  1. Nagi and Athena talking in sync was definitely the highlight of this chapter for me. I especially liked Athena’s justification for the plan. “That is just being kind” lol! Can’t say that Mikado doesn’t have it coming with him being such a manipulative troll himself. I have to wonder whether he really does have a jewel hidden somewhere or not though. Hayate might find himself going through all that trouble just to find a written note saying “Sorry, but the jewel is in another castle.” … written by Isumi. Haha! Just thought of her after her role in Athena’s scheme in the beach arc.

Athena’s and Nagi’s being in sync was awesomeness for sure. ^_^

*LOL* Yes, that could well be true.

Or, that note could be written by Nagi’s mother. She’s done that before (the trap door at the mansion in Greece).
