On board White Base, Sayla is sitting in as a medical consultant.

Bright comes in to pay her a confidential visit, having his voice disguised and his features somewhat obscured by a clouded glass screen.

There he confesses to having slapped a subordinate (Amuro) who wasn’t doing his job, then enjoying it and slapping the person again.  He asks if there’s something wrong with him for slapping people and enjoying it.

Upon hearing this, Sayla has a Newtype revelation, where she sees herself repeatedly slapping Kai until she brings herself to her full.

Regaining control of herself, she tells Captain Bright she’ll prescribe sedatives for him, leading him to wonder where his privacy is if she could so easily identify him.

I’m glad we got away from the Bird Char stuff. I always liked Sayla in Mobile Suit Gundam, and I had forgotten that she was a medical student on Side 7 when the fun began.

Regardless, it was funny hearing Bright speak of how he enjoyed slapping Amuro twice, something I suspect viewers at the time also enjoyed. The moment was made funnier with the “disguised” voices, which were actually just sped up a bit.

It was funnier having Sayla fantasize about slapping Kai repeatedly, another character that often deserved it.  Obviously, having seen the original series helps make the scene funnier for me. ^_^

Sadly, the look back at the original series was another repeat, this time of Bright after he’d slapped Amuro and making that classic pose of his in the process.

Still, this was a really funny outing, having fun with the world of the original Gundam. ^_^

Oh, and for those wondering about the subtitle for the article, here’s a classic bit from 2008 to explain it (using a 2013 upload with English subtitles).

I remember back in the day when Savage Piper found this, he then discovered this catchy tune using the slap incident. Enjoy. ^_^
