FAIRY TAIL ZERØ ch 01 review

Fairy Tail Zero chapter 01

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Fairy_Tail_Zero_CH01_PG16A dirty, six year old Mavis Vermillion sits on the bar of the Red Lizard Guild, reading a book called Fairy Quest, when their master, Jeself, takes the book from her, destroys it, then orders her to clean the outside of the guild. He also forces her to give up her shoes, but when he tries to give them to his spoiled daughter, Zeira, she rejects them because they are dirty and had belonged to Mavis.

As an orphan who’s parents apparently owed Red Lizard Guild, Mavis works as a slave, but though she’s forced to sleep in the stable and is only allowed to eat scraps, she decides not to cry in order to meet fairies.

One day, the Blue Skull guild attacks and is wiping out Red Lizard. Mavis finds Zeira in the rubble and pulls her out. Mavis runs with Zeira into the woods. Zeira is surprised that Mavis is helping her after how mean she’d always been to Mavis. Since Mavis doesn’t care about that, Zeira says they could have been friends, pleasing Mavis, but then Zeira collapses and dies, causing Mavis to cry. Sometime later, Mavis returned to the town and the guild on Tenrou Island, but everyone had been slain.

Seven years later, treasure hunters Warrod Sequen, Precht Gaebolg, and Yuriy Dreyar arrive on Tenrou Island to find the Tenrou Jade.

Thoughts/Review:

You know, I bet when Mashima-sensei first introduced Mavis, he never thought she’d take off like she did. And yet, so strong is her draw that Mashima-sensei does a prequel Fairy Tail manga featuring her forming Fairy Tail. Hey, I’m not complaining, though I do wonder how Mashima-sensei can do both a weekly and monthly manga title.

Man, Mashima-sensei laid it on pretty thick when he showed Mavis’s horrible life as an abused little orphan slave girl in a mage guild. Then he lays it on even thicker by having Zeira die. Egad man! Could you depress me even more?

Fairy Tail Zero Chapter 01

Interesting that this took place on Tenrou Island. It has been ages since I last read the events of Tenrou Island, so I can’t remember if there were ruins on that island or not. Knowing Mashima-sensei, he retconned this in to show why Tenrou Island is so special to Mavis and Fairy Tail.

Still, I am very interested in learning how Fairy Tail came to be formed as a guild and how Mavis became the first master of that guild.  As such, I’ll blog the series on a chapter basis.

Regarding the summary/review, the way you wrote a certain point seems a bit odd to me considering that you have already read the next chapter. Are you by chance trying to avoid posting spoilers of the next chapter in your review.

On another note, i am not sure if i am right or wrong, but there was a rumour (or was it official, i don’t really remember) that the main FT series would be ending soon, i.e., the present on-going Arc is the last one.

If its true, then maybe Mashima-sensei started doing this series because he wanted to cover up all the lose ends of the main series (those can’t be covered there), which incidentally are also related to the history/past of the story (well with the recent chapter 406, a lot of question regarding the past did open up which can’t be solved except in here).

      Well…
if you are talking about Zeira, I wrote this review based on my notes.
In this case, when I read the chapters, I took notes specifically for a review. So I wrote the review from that perspective.

Seems like there are a lot of manga-ka tossing it in.

That’s nothing more than the same sort of “the series is ending” rumor Mashima debunked at the end of volume 35. The current arc is no more the “final arc” than the GMG arc was.

Thanks for clearing up regarding the review/summary part.

    Yeah, that’s true.
“Naruto”, one of the Big manga’s out there is going to have its last release next week ending at chapter 699-700 (we are supposed to get 2 special chapter next week and the last one is supposed to be in full colour).
On another note, have you read “Naruto”. If yes then would it be possible for you to write a review on it. I know it would be tough (considering the type of story and its length), but still if possible because its one of the big ones.

Also it was said last year (or was it the year before) that the present on-going arc of “Bleach” is the last one. But considering the pace of story per chapter of “Bleach”, i wouldn’t be surprised if it ends around the end of 2015 or sometime in 2016.

I don’t know if there are other Manga’s that are going to be ending soon as most of the others that i read are mostly new ones (like “UQH”) and are on a monthly release basis (like “Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou”, its a nice funny manga, you could give it a try if you can manage higher level of Ecchiness than what we had in “MSN” and don’t mind Monster Girls).

Well i do follow “Meitantei Conan” as well, but even after 908 chapters, i don’t think it would be ending anytime soon (because even after 20+ years, the mangaka haven’t really explored the main topic of the story that much). From the way the things are going, i can clearly see it touching the 1500-2000 chapter mark (unless there occur some problem in the future).

No problem. All of the reviews through chapter 4 will be like that.

On another note, have you read “Naruto”.

Never read nor watched it. I’m am very well aware of it, of course.

There were plenty of ruins scattered around Tenrou Island. So it was always clearly inhabited at some point. I just don’t think we saw any specific ruined villages.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

I probably didn’t give them much thought since they didn’t look like they came from a ruined village.
