Nekopara OVA Kickstarter Reached $500,000!
Hey folks. I don’t remember how I first became aware of the hentai visual novel Nekopara. I know it pops up in Steam fairly frequently (though that version is censored more than the Japanese version form what I understand). Nevertheless, learning that Nekopara was basically the protagonist having sex with his two, loli cat girls (who also serve as waitresses for his cafe), I lost interest. I won’t deny that main cat girls Chocola and Vanilla aren’t cute. They are. I can understand why so many guys would want to “meditate” to their images. But I’d rather not go there.
I was intrigued when I learned of the Kickstarter project to turn this H visual novel into a 20-minute OVA. I laughed when I read that they raised $100,000 in a few hours. It made me remember a guy I knew from my forum days who was HUGE into cat girls. He would always go on about how great cat girls were. (His favorite anime was All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku.) So I couldn’t help but imagine him contributing great sums of money to the Nekopara OVA project. 😀
Today (January 11), Sekai Project (who bring a lot of Japanese visual novels to Steam in English, heavily censored if said titles were H-titles) announced that they’d raised $500,000 for the OVA project, meaning the OVA would be 60 minutes in length. They’ve even created additional stretch goals to $1-million. That’s pretty amazing. I’m rather curious to see how far they can go in the 30 days they have left.
One thing that really cracked me up is this paragraph from the Kickstarter page.
Originally, Sayori created the VNs with the simple dream of seeing the doujinshis she had written come to life, but so many people read and loved NEKOPARA’s cute characters, story, and charm. As a result, NEKOPARA has achieved popularity with fans worldwide!
Well, I think those fans mostly loved the idea of the sex with cute, willing, loli cat girls. Then as sequels came out, those fans wanted to have sex with those cat girls. 😆
Yeah, I know the OVA won’t be a hentai title, so presuming these Kickstarter projects actually get sold to the public (I would assume the OVA would be up for sale on Amazon or the like), that fact would be one they wouldn’t want to share. 😉
Depending on how ecchi this is, I might take a gander at the OVA. I am curious about the story. Plus, there have been a number of H visual novels that were adapted as non-hentai anime that I really enjoyed — Fate/stay night (franchise), Clannad, Air, and Kanon to name a few.
