SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

With all of the negative press on Kohane-chan, Watanuki decides to rescue her from her mother with Doumeki’s help. Kohane-chan’s mother is angry and trying to purify the girl. Despite the mother’s wrath, Watanuki and Doumeki get her out, where Watanuki takes Kohane-chan to Yuuko-san’s place. There, she has a relaxing bath with Mokona, Maru, and Moro. She shares a sushi feast with Yuuko-san and after Yuuko-san explains about giving thanks, she enjoys her meal and the antics of the others. She then spends the night at Yuuko-san’s place.

The following morning, Watanuki is preparing breakfast. Kohane-chan tells him she’s returning home because that’s where she belongs. Watanuki reluctantly accepts this and gives her a dream balloon. She takes it home and uses it on her mother, who’s been crying. With that, Kohane-chan pays a visit to the home with two ghosts (which she’d been ridiculed for seeing when others hadn’t) and sees the female ghost off. A skeleton of the girl is found and suddenly Kohane-chan is not a villain to the press, which Watanuki has great difficulty understanding as he discusses the situation with Doumeki and Himawari-chan. Kohane-chan cuts her hair and before she and her mother move away, Watanuki gets one final visit with her to say goodbye and to witness Kohane-chan’s dream come true.

Thoughts/Review:

I can’t remember the last time I saw Maru and Moro in the manga since CLAMP wrote them out of the story for now. I was reminded of this with the anime version of the conclusion of the Kohane-chan story (which of course had to be completely different since the manga Kohane-chan story is tied up with Tsubasa story and Kohane-chan appears to still have a role to play there). Still, for what it is worth, I the anime story conclusion works.

While I’m thinking about it, while the “Grey-san” characters (those non-descript background characters) aren’t as annoying as “Black-san” characters, they are still annoying.
