Whoo! Hoo! Whomever brought up Takane’s name gets brownie points (for whatever they are worth). Nice to see Takane, Misora, Kokone (or Cocone, depending on which spelling you choose), and Mei again. ^_^ Plus, more fightin’ goodness, y’all. ^_^

So… now Negi becomes a Super Saiyan 3?

    -pheeph

  2. AstroNerdBoy says:

    *lol* Well, the DBZ references have been made before. ^_^;

  3. Blogima says:

    Wtf! Indeed…

Negi turns himself into Universal Kickass God. Now, can Rakan survive (well, yes, he is Rakan, after all)?

  4. AstroNerdBoy says:

The one positive is that once the tournament is over, these cheats Negi is using to be able to even face Jack will be gone as his pactio will be over. Negi will still be very powerful, but he won’t have an artifact and he won’t have additional magics to draw on.

Finally Negi´s “normal” punches do some real damage!
Every1 is like oO wtf? and Kotarou is fine too.
I guess with that final punch plus emittam of both spells the fight will be over.
Imho Negi was quite sure he´ll win, cause this was the first time he didn´t use all his power from the very beginning (well in other fights he used to get some great idea an thus becoming a little stronger, but that double magia erebea isn´t smth he came up with during th fight).
Seems like Negi + Kota tricked Rakan into releasing a huge spell, so he doesn´t pay attention for a moment and Negi can get into close combat without Rakan using any “defense”
But this fight gets a little boring now, cause it´s so daaamn long, hope it will be REALLY over in ch 248

Long fights and stories can get boring, especially in these week-to-week segments. However, I was reading Volume 21 today and remembering the weeks it took to get all of those chapters out and all our speculation on whom Negi and Chachamaru would find first, then second, etc. Reading the chapters back-to-back, I laugh at how quickly Akamatsu-sensei has the group start coming back together. I’m sure that this fight will come off much the same way when read as an entire volume much as the Mahora Festival fights do for me now.

  7. ninotachi says:

Hmm, Kotaro is okay and is it just me or did he use some sort of black shadow thingy to glue Rakan to the spot?

Lol at SS3 Negi even if that wasn’t actually how he may beat Rakan (that is, he still lost in stats).

Interesting first batch. Besides having more than the usual number of pages, we see the Mahora Mahou Shoujo 😛 (Takane, Mei, Misora, Cocone – if that was a bit vague)

Somehow, Negi having long hair looks cool…imagining it as whitish/silvery since his armationem seems to be lightning-based, at least partly reminded me of Inuyasha more than DBZ though ehehe. ^_^’

I’m wondering about that spell Negi had, with the runic circle. It looks like an Area-type spell. (Astrape again?) Basing from the explosion. I’m surprised the arena is STILL standing after all of that…The lance was something he used against the Black Fang (Canis Niger) mercenary groups right?

The last bit with Negi and a “Rakan”-emulation behind him. Er, does that mean what I think it means? He’s somehow matching Rakan’s strenght so that their power is at par with each other?

So more DB reference? Do I spot some Valkyrie Profile there with Nibelung Valesti?

Coincidence or done on purpose? Knowing Ken, it’s usually the latter or so.

I wonder what Takane is doing.

  10. Anonymous says:

It just hit me that there going to do this in animation!

Oh thank you God for giving Ken Akamatsu he’s mind.

  11. Ultimaniac says:

SSJ3 >_< Does the fact that Misora and co. are there mean Takamichi and Mana aren't too far behind? Also, I can see Negi giving up his pactio after the match, but he can't be getting ALL that extra magic for these techniques and spells from Theo alone. He was doing some uber training before he even made the pacto. At the very least he should be able to do the Raisoku Shundou afterwards.

  12. Anonymous says:

Noo I don’t want Rakan to lose! I want Rakan to win! I don’t know why though…. Just that the idea of a 10 year old who had very little offensive magic was able to rise to Rakan’s level in what, a year and a half? is kinda ridiculous.

  13. Jason Lin says:

tat Rakan image behind negi is not him reaching his level, just tat he absorb rakan’s attack and rakan receiving his own attack..probably hahah hey erebia absorb everything so cool

  14. Truthfully, I miss when the fights were more simple. I like that Negi’s getting more powerful and growing up, but I think it’s going a little too far lately…

  15. Ultimaniac says:

    @ that last anon:

How many times do we have to be reminded that Negi isn’t any normal 10 year old? He’s a kid genius with legacy. His dad was able to match Rakan when they first met and he wasn’t much older than Negi is now. Granted, Rakan’s most likely stronger than he was way back then. I think Negi’s had much more help than Nagi did, with Magia Erebea, a pactio, Eva’s resorts and scroll, and just the overall motivation and drive he get’s from his goals. I don’t think It’s strange at all that he’s able to match Rakan.

  16. Anonymous says:

Well Negi absorbing Rakan’s power when Rakan is at 120%…was my second guess at that “image” of Rakan behind Negi as he attacked Rakan.

So my assumption of the magic circle being an Area of Effect spell (I thought it was something like Chilipl Astrape) was wrong it seems…as it was mentioned in AQS’ forums that it was being used by Negi as an amplifier (or possibly even a means to absorb Rakan’s power).

As for Negi being able to beat Rakan, well, as there seems to be a higher chance of it happening now more than at any other point so far, is more of Negi using Rakan’s hubris (underestimating him(negi) also) than raw power (though that also helps). So it seems in the end, Negi wins (might win) because he is using what he is good at, that is, thinking/strategizing. (I was thinking he’d so something that involved a huge magic circle anyway, when he showed the incomplete 1k bolts anyway)

And for those concerned about Negi being overpowered at this point, let’s not forget that the pactio cancels once this tournament is over. And because of that, Negi’s current power halves (at the very least, since he loses Asuna’s cheat sword :P)

  17. anonimus says:

Imo, the image with Negi and the Rakan visualisation behind him is just to show that Rakan noticed Negi is pritty much copping Rakan’s fighting style and that basicly is Rakan’s move. Compare with some previous chapters with Rakan in combat and you’ll notice an obvious simmilarity :p

  18. Renzo says:

It may seem so that the last image says that Rakan read Negi’s move a was able to get behind him.

BTW, Theo looked kind of disturbed there or was feeling sorry for Rakan. She does like him right? >:)
So maybe she’s feeling something like, “I let Negi borrow my power so that he could beat that dumbhead but I also don’t want that dumbhead to get hurt THAT bad.”

    Haha. Cool update Akamatsu-sensei.

  19. Ultimaniac says:

Shadow image Rakan just means he sees Negi as an equal. That’s all there is to it.

  20. fg7dragon says:

It could also mean that Rakan recognises the similarity betwin Negi and himself in his gladiator days.

  21. Anonymous says:

I think that it means that Rakan finally recognizes Negi as a “man”. Negi’s mom to be revealed soon?

  22. Anonymous says:

great work i cant wait to read translate

  23. Anonymous says:

Imo i think the superposed image of Rakan over Negi is just Rakan being reminded of himself when he used to be a gladiator.

  24. Anonymous says:

Imo i think the superposed image of Rakan over Negi is just Rakan being reminded of himself when he used to be a gladiator.

  25. Anonymous says:

So I am hoping that in chapter 248 the fight is over. Cause this tension is killing me.

  26. Anonymous says:

The shadow Rakan meaning absorption makes a lot of sense. I can read kanji since I’m Chinese, and sorta get the meaning behind it even if the uses are different, and it seems like Rakan charges up and attacks (probably full strength, as Negi was full strength super Erebia), and the magic circle appears to be something stopping enemy, and then the announcer’s response seems like “he stopped it? (it being Rakan’s attack), and then Negi struggles and finally COMPLEXIO…then attacks.

  27. Anonymous says:

Taking a guess, is the large magic circle Negi’s “trump card #5?” I compared it to the last chapter when Negi mentions trump card #3 and the text is the same…. Anywho, I only expected up to #3 so these additional 2 trump cards took me completely by surprise. Er is #4 by any chance his feint? (I think he pretends to lose his armationem mode so Kotaro is able to restrain Rakan with that shadow/inugami spirit binding technique (reminds me of Shikamaru from Naruto…) nyaa…
    ~ =@-@= mega-ne-ko ~

  28. Anonymous says:

rakan’s shadow image wouldn’t have anything to do with negi’s pactio, would it..?

  29. anonimus says:

I just had an odd thought after realising Negi’s mother will get revealed soon. Do you think Asuna could be Negi’s mother? She’s from Mundus Magicus so I don’t see it as impossible.
Obviously running out of my mind with thoeries here :p

  30. Anonymous says:

The afterimage of Rakan is there because Negi is using the power of Rakan’s super-punch that he just absorbed.

Theo is worried because it looks like Negi lacks the power to beat Rakan, despite his efforts.

  31. PeterH says:

It is in Japanese, but someone has written a piece on Takane.

    http://blog.goo.ne.jp/e10poni/e/66a787caf68c56e6e0e2179f35647440

    Can anyone translate this?

  32. Anonymous says:

You’re not really missing much. The blogger is just summarizing the character’s appearances, noting the frequency of screaming and involuntary stripping. Also discussed is Takane’s personality and comparison with other manga characters. There’s also some speculation, such as the possibility that she is also a closet shotakon.

  33. AstroNerdBoy says:

@Peter — thanks for the link.

@anon — a closet shoutacon, eh? *lol* Does that mean that Mei will be disappointed in her “oneesama?” *lol*

  34. fg7dragon says:

He absorbed Rakan’s attack! Adding that blow to his lace, even Rakan can’t withstand it, even if he is made of steel. But I don’t Rakan telling him about his mom too soon…

  35. Anonymous says:

Don’t worry about Negi having reached Rakan’s level. In a way, he’s cheating, since he’s sending Rakan’s attack right back at him. Remember from the strength chart that Rakan made that he’s about what, 2800 ish? With the extra training, he might have broken 3000. He’s still got a long way to go before he stands on the same stage as the rest. And really, this is Rakan’s fault for A) Treating this as a test when he told Negi to take it seriously, and B) for dangling information about Negi’s mother in front of him, since that would obviously ignite Negi in a way that no friendship comments could do.

  36. Anonymous says:

Takane’s completely enraptured. I wonder what her Nagi Fanclub membership number is?
