NHK’s Inverview with Akamatsu-sensei (Negima!/Love Hina) on J-Comi

As I’m still picking up the pieces from yesterday’s fiasco with the blog, I thought I’d share a video clip from an NHK interview with Akamatsu-sensei.  In it, he discusses not only his J-Comi website, but also discusses scanlations, specifically a Negima! scanlation he found on the web. ^_^;

My attempts to archive this video failed and I don’t have time to look up getting different software to do the job.  I’d love to archive it because who knows how long NHK will keep it up.   Also, if anyone has a translation, that would rule too.  ^_^

On a completely unrelated note, I see that Japanese female anchors are still little more than support for their male counterparts. *lol*

    Thanks for the interview. I’m particularly interested in what he thinks of online scanlations in english. I’ve checked his website since I noticed that there was a part in the interview where it looked as if he could change the language from jap to english. Man! If there is really a legal alternative to online scanlators for a few box a month I think that everybody that can aford it should try it.

    What I can tell, the scanlations are part of his motivation for J-comi. I *think* he mentions (whether here or in another interview) that for out of print manga that goes on J-comi, they’d be willing to have someone basically do a scanlation for the site. I’m pretty sure that’s why there’s an English option there.

    That said, J-comi is only for out of print manga and not ongoing manga. So that won’t stop scanlations of current titles but if successful, it might convince companies like Kodansha to get their butts in gear and simultaneously release manga in Japan and the West.

    @Anon — thanks for the video. ^_^

    It’s my pleasure to help a blogger I like 🙂

    For your future needs, freeware StreamTransport is very easy to use and works well with most player-embedded RTMP streams, although it has the tendency to time out half-way with some. With this video it worked fine. Command-line RTMPDump should work with pretty much everything, but it can be a hassle to configure for a casual user. To make things easier when StreamTransport doesn’t work, you can still use it to catch the URL and then break it down into RTMPDump parameters. There may be paid programs that work even better, but so far I haven’t felt the need for them.

    I already had a lot of reasons to love Akamatsu-sensei, but if this takes things in the direction I hope it might… I want to join his harem and have his insanely-talented little baby now.

    If he weren’t married and I had the correct set of abdominal contents, that is. (^_^);;;
