Shakugan no Shana III (Final) – 05

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 05Shana wakes up in the giant bed within the giant room that has been assigned to her in the Seireiden.  A Tomogara maid assigned to tend to her does so and leaves, leaving Shana to her thoughts on the balcony.  Shana has a Hougu chain on her arm, stripping her of her Flame Haze abilities and her sword Nietono no Shana has been taken from her. Also gone is the pendant containing Alastor. Shana recalls a time when she got lost in a storage area on Tendoukyuu and rescued by the skeleton Shiro (Merihim). She also recalls spending time with Sophie after leaving Wilhelmina and the advice Sophie gave Shana on her final night there.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 05As this goes on, the Bal Masqué hold a massive war council, headed by Bel Peol and Sydonay. Yuuji does not attend and decides to pay Shana a visit. However, he is surprised by Shana’s reaction to him in that she seems afraid and doesn’t want him to touch her. Alastor hangs around Yuuji’s neck and Shana quickly realizes that Alastor volunteered to be with Yuuji because he had no other choice. Yuuji still tries to approach Shana, but she continues to back away, eventually backing into the bed and falling back on it.  Yuuji is upset by Shana’s unexpected reactions and thinks wonders if this is because she was so easily defeated. When he continues to attempt to talk to her, she yells at him, causing Yuuji to back off and seemingly begin to understand her true concern.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 05On Earth, Tanaka desperately attempts to contact Satou with no success. Margery Daw is still sleeping and unresponsive after her encounter with Yuuji and after a talk with Marchosias, Tanaka wants Satou to come back, thinking it will help Margery somehow. Meanwhile, Wilhelmina pays Yuuji’s mother a visit, but Chigusa does not remember Shana. After Wilhelmina returns home, she receives more rejection letters to her request for aid. This was not unexpected by Wilhelmina and she plots her next move, knowing that the leader of Bal Masqué would not have personally come for Shana if they had intended to kill her.  Back at Seireiden, Bel Peol and Sydonay have a brief chat about Yuuji before they join Hecate, who is making final adjustments to the course of Seireiden.

Thoughts/Review:

This episode was clearly a setup element for whatever is to come. As such, not a whole lot happened.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 05

I find it amazing that Yuuji was that dense to think that joining a Tomogara lord would allow him to have some sort of normal relationship with Shana. I know love makes one do crazy things, but this one is out there for sure.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 05

As for Shana, I suspect she’ll try to free herself from the Hougu that seals her powers and then go on a rampage. Not sure how Alastor being around Yuuji’s neck will affect things though.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 05

It is interesting that Bel Peol and Sydonay still have doubts about Yuuji.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 05

It seems that Hecate does not since she’s just doing everything she’s asked to do.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 05

I sorta feel bad for Wilhelmina. Though she’s usually fairly emotionless, as she was in this episode, Shana is like her child in many ways and thus she could end up going “mama bear” on some Tomogara. That would be fun to watch.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 05

Sadly, Margery Daw is still out of the picture. Not sure what is going on with Satou and why the Outlaw(s) apparently are feigning ignorance of him.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 05

I don’t remember what else I was going to say, but war is coming and I’m reminded of the early scenes showing a war-torn area (I’m guessing Seireiden) with Shana facing off against Yuuji. Can’t wait to see what happens to get us there. ^_^

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 05

(Sorry about the crappy images. I’m pretty sure it is the crappy PC I’m on at the moment. Can’t check the video against my real PC for several days.)

Utterly random thought… is it just me, or have the -tan skits ruined poor Sydonay’s ability to be taken seriously? I can’t see him onscreen anymore with Hecate without remembering her (repeatedly) slamming him, or with Yuuji without remembering “that” scene.

(It’s kinda bad for Hecate too, but her *cough* intimate assimilation of Yuuji’s memories isn’t quite as memorable as the things they’ve done to Sydonay.)

Not for me, it hasn’t. After all, Shana-tan and the other characters in the various “-tan” series are parodies of their real characters in the main story, so I’ve been able to keep the two separate.

    I should go back and rewatch the old Shana-tan stuff. ^_^;
