Shakugan no Shana III (Final) – 19

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 19Kazumi watches as Shana and Yuuji furiously battle. Yuuji again states why he cant’ agree with the Flame Haze cause, leading Shana to become upset at Yuuji’s lack of faith in what they’d done together, thus allowing Shana to grow in power, landing a punch on Yuuji, forcing Sydonay to rescue him. Shana races to the Serpent’s body, so Sydonay launches Yuuji in front. However, Shana uses the Serpent’s own Taimei Shihen spell, inserted into the Hougu ring Chorde (Corde), to shatter Yuuji’s barrier. Wilhelmina snares Yuuji and Sydonay in her ribbons, laced with Taimei Shihen, as Shana fires Chorde at the entrance to Xanadu, only to discover that Yuuji has placed extra protection there, thwarting Shana’s plans.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 19At the Seireiden tower, Chiara keeps Mammon engaged, while Sāle hears Dantalion excited ramblings as the latter launches a hoard of giant, robot warriors. Nbh’w, having infiltrated the tower, begins destroying it from within, while also within, Margery Daw makes her way to her objective. Sydonay yells for Bel Peol to get out of the way, and launches his Hougu spear Shintetsu Nyoi into the tower’s center to shore it up. This causes Kazumi to be mildly injured and question if she’s going to die. Seeing Shana and Yuuji fight, she considers various things and decides to use Giralda.  She yells for Shana to cut the Hougu necklace that is sealing Giralda. Shana does, and Kazumi summons Pheles, even though it will cost Kazumi her life, hoping this is for the best.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 19Pheles appears, catching Kazumi, and explains the true nature of Giralda, as it allows a human to cast an unrestricted spell at the cost of their own life. However, Pheles says that she gave Kazumi the Hougu, not expecting her to use it. Kazumi has, and as a result, created a miracle; thus Kazumi won’t die. Pheles distracts Yuuji by having Kazumi appear before him, as if falling.  Pheles catches Yuuji and awakens Johann, who emerges and begins taking Reiji Maigo with him. Yuuji struggles to prevent this as Johann explains that he doesn’t agree with Yuuji’s methods, nor his notions of love. Johann willingly gives the Reiji Maigo back to Yuuji as Pheles joins him, the two vowing never to be separated again.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 19The rogue Tomogara group, Hyakki Yakou, arrive on what looks like a Volkswagen bus (actually the Tomogara, Gyuuki), grabbing the unconscious Kazumi as well as Pheles and Johan, before fleeing under Yuuji’s nose. Shana quietly wishes them well, knowing their flight to the sky was an illusion as they actually went to ground. Nbh’w launches himself at the “bus,” causing the group to think he’s attacking. However, he offers his services as a bodyguard to help them escape, which they readily accept.  With their departure, Shana remarks on how Yuuji’s perceptions are diminished, now that Johan is gone. Meanwhile, Dantalion repairs and enhances the Seireiden tower while Haborym, Lerajie, and Orobas are puzzled by the Gods of Earth strategy.

Thoughts/Review:

Hmmm…well, Kazumi did pull the trigger and summon Pheles, but she doesn’t die. While I’m certainly not complaining, the question becomes, “How?”

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 19

Regardless, now Johann and Pheles are reunited, and I have to say that I liked it. Without the Reiji Maigo, how does Johann stay alive?  I suppose that if they created the Reiji Maigo once before, they could do so again.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 19

Johann’s chat with Yuuji was interesting. Yuuji has always claimed to be doing this for Shana, but in the end, he’s making assumptions and not communicating with Shana. Further to that, he’s trying to follow a rigid script, when true love has no such script, and thus is filled with ups and downs, which Yuuji is apparently trying to avoid.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 19

It was nice to get the name of that Tomogara group that Pheles contacted in episode 16 — Hyakki Yakou.  That’s also an interesting name for the Tomogara group, since it literally means “Night Parade of 100 Youkai,” which is a major thing in Japanese folklore. I was also amused that one of the group transformed himself into a VW bus as the getaway vehicle for Pheles, Johann, and Kazumi.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 19

I loved how Nbh’w decided to join the Hyakki Yakou group and become a bodyguard for them.  I suspect it had more to do with Kazumi than anything, but it was a nice touch.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 19

Why did Wilhelmina’s mask crack? I thought that was Tiamat’s form when Wilhelmina goes to serious combat mode.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 19

As to Yuuji’s and Shana’s fight, I have to say that I enjoyed seeing Shana right hook Yuuji in the face. The moment was made amusing by Sydonay’s rescue of Yuuji and remark on how bad Yuuji is with women despite having been a human.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final) - 19

So, now what? Yuuji and Shana still haven’t resolved anything, and Yuuji’s plan is proceeding, howbeit with some unexpected delays. Well, there is Margery Daw, who’s about to perform whatever mischief within the bowels of Seireiden tower. I’m looking forward to seeing that. ^_^

G’day mate! I read your tweets and I don’t understand your beef with Firefox. First of all don’t you have a top notch system? I think so because I saw you talking about it when you were playing Skyrim. Hard to believe Firefox could have serious impact on it. All the spikes I’ve seen while using Firefox have come from my security programmes that sometimes seem to get into race conditions trying to outprotect me. I’ve never had a problem with Firefox itself and I have a system that was average when I bought it couple years ago. Still let’s say you really have a problem with Firefox, then why don’t you switch to another good browser like Chrome? It’s not like there isn’t any choice these days, so why spend time complaining about it. I just don’t understand this one. Sorry for barging in like this.

I’m not that fond of Chrome. I do use it when I play War Metal or Castle Age on Facebook, but that’s because there are extensions that have been done for both games to make things a bit better.

That’s dandy mate, but why write angry tweets about Firefox if you have no intention of switching browsers? You make Firefox sound like it’s garbage being forced down your throat, but it’s fully your choice to use it or not. If you have a specific kind of problem, you can better help yourself and everyone else by filing a bug report. If your issue is already reported, don’t file a dupe but be sure to vote the bug up so it gets priority. The developers can’t fix anything based on ranting tweets alone. Sorry mate, but I happen to like Firefox and tweets like that only spread FUD about it.

In my experience, if you don’t say something about a problem you are experiencing, then nothing gets done about it.

See mate, in my experience filing a bug or voting for an existing bug gets a whole lot more done than flaming on Twitter. I’m not just saying that, I’ve filed a few bugs myself and it doesn’t take them long to fix things if you give them enough information. It’s bollocks to expect to get anything done your way, because you can’t expect people to fix a problem without giving them any specifics to help reproduce it.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

Yeah, and that was done a few releases ago. The official response was, “Well, its probably one of your plug-ins.” Really? So I temporarily removed them, but that didn’t help.

Anyway, my reason for ranting is likely the same reason you felt compelled to say something here to me. ^_~

Great episode… imo, perhaps the best of this run of the series.

Hmmm…well, Kazumi did pull the trigger and summon Pheles, but she doesn’t die. While I’m certainly not complaining, the question becomes, “How?”

Pheles told Kazumi that humans are too easily distracted to wish for anything strongly enough to cast an unrestricted spell… and that the only way someone can focus clearly enough to do so is by making the decision to sacrifice their own life. Not by actually sacrificing their life, but by being that single-minded. It’s kinda splitting hairs, but it works for me. ^_^

It makes me wonder, though – how did Yuuji pick up the ability so easily if this is the case? I know he’s a Torch, but even so…

    Why did Wilhelmina’s mask crack?

She made a comment about being “rejected again”… do I remember correctly that she has a past with Johann and Pheles, and could be hurt at them leaving her behind? (But even if so, that seems like a small reason for her to be losing it the way Margery did.)

Hmmm…I hadn’t actually seen her explanation quite the way you had, but I can now. Hmmmm.

      >It makes me wonder, though – how did Yuuji pick up the ability so easily if this is the case? I know he’s a Torch, but even so…

Well, he’s also a Mystes, thanks to the Reiji Maigo. That may have something to do with it.

She did have a past with Pheles and Johann, but I agree that this seems a very weak reason if she’s losing it.
