UQ Holder Chapter 29 Manga Review (Mama bear watches her cub kick arse!)

ユーキューホルダー! Manga Review
UQ Holder Chapter 29

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

UQ Holder Chapter 29 Manga ReviewIkkuu and Gengorou take out the rest of the special force troops while Jinbee has words with Nagumo, whom he has known for some time. Jinbee offers Nagumo a chance to join UQ Holder, which Nagumo declines since they are monsters in his eyes. Touta objects to this characterization as Jinbee and Nagumo square off for battle.

As the two fight, Nagumo is at a disadvantage. Jinbee gets behind Nagumo, causing Touta to warn him about the trap. Jinbee is already aware of it and sends Nagumo smashing into a building. Nagumo teleports to near Touta’s location to remove his head. One of the slum kids tosses the Gravity Blade to Touta, but Nagumo knows it won’t get there in time. Jinbee sees this as well and teleports the blade to Touta.

Touta grabs the blade as Nagumo arrives for a killing blow. With Eva watching the entire time, the stakes in Touta’s legs and arms pop out as Touta takes damage and goes down, but in the process, he has removed Nagumo’s left arm.

Thoughts/Review:

Best thing about this chapter, and she didn’t do a dang thing? Eva. ‘Nuff said. ^_~

UQ Holder Chapter 29 Manga Review

OK, I’ll say more.

Seriously, while I’ve not had a problem with Eva in her Yukihime guise, Eva in her true form sitting back and observing things, only helping when it suits her purposes, is the Eva I love. That attitude of hers is what I’ve always liked about her.

For the entire fight, she was perched on that large boulder-rubble, watching. With Touta right in front of her, she was in a position to defend him if needed. So, when Touta got tossed the Gravity Blade, mama bear watched with keen interest to see what her cub did. When Touta defeats Nagumo, mama bear is proud, but with her usual “hmph.”

UQ Holder Chapter 29 Manga Review

I really do hope that Eva has some exposition in our future with this manga.

Jinbee’s fight with Nagumo was humorous just from Jinbee’s condescension in addressing Nagumo as “Nagumo-chan.” *lol* Still, it is interesting that Jinbee offered Nagumo a job, though Nagumo’s racist attitude about immortals prevents him from doing anything of the sort. I hope his fear of immortals is gone into further, especially since some are not evil (ie: Negi).

That leads me to Nagumo’s boss. How delicious is it that the person we presume is Fate, who’s immortal, is the one to hire Powerful Hand?

UQ Holder Chapter 29 Manga Review

I do believe this will be the real Fate from Negima, who had decided that things need to be done a certain way after becoming disillusioned with the things Negi did.  Question is, why is he after Touta? Was he the one to cause Touta’s parent’s death?

Finally, there’s Touta, who’s victory over Nagumo was more like taunting, “I won! I won! I shot the BB gun! You lost! You lost! You ate tomato sauce!” Nagumo’s “I hate those pretentious speeches” had me saying, “Right on, Brother Nagumo! Preach it, Brother! Preach it!” *lol*

So, an entertaining chapter to be had here, where Eva’s background moments were what made Touta’s win tolerable.

  1. This is really interesting.

What exactly went wrong with Negi`s plans ? We all know that Fate was only a temporary member , Since he basically said , One screw up , I reactivate Cosmo Entelekhia , But like i`ve said , Interesting , But could this also mean that Timeline B Confirmed ?

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

If by “Timeline B”, you mean the Asuna sleeping one, I think that’s correct.

      • But I Wonder , If Negi`s plans wouldn`t have worked , Doesn`t that mean it could also happen in Timeline C ? Where Asuna was bought back from the past ?

        Off topic , Kinda spoilerish.

I remember in Steins Gate where the protagonist was trying to prevent his childhood friend from dying , But its unpreventable , Everytime he goes back in time , He can`t prevent her from dying.

1- “As the two fight, Nagumo is at a disadvantage. Jinbee gets behind Nagumo, causing Touta to warn him about the trap. Touta is already aware of it and sends Nagumo smashing into a building.”

Dont you mean “Jinbei is already aware…”?

2- Haha, good to see PH trying to escape, only to be held back. What did Ukku did to that vehicle, used magnetic force to throw it?

3- And yes, quite the irony there, Fate as Nagumo’s boss lol

    Good chapter.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

Dont you mean “Jinbei is already aware…”?

Oops. Yeah. Thanks for the correction. (I hate when I do that.)

What did Ukku did to that vehicle, used magnetic force to throw it?

I’ve no clue. Hopefully we’ll find out.

      Good chapter.

      Yeppers. ^_^

  3. Aki says:

I believe something has happened during the Mage of beginning raid, plus fate is to good to be the final boss now.

I know fate joked about it but I really do think negi is part of or is the boss of an ‘evil’ organisation well what he is doing is right but at same time it could be evil. Or touta is actually negi but with his magic and memory surpress as well as having his for change…

I don’t know but seems wierd to make fate the big bad boss again all will be explained in due time, but this really negi apparent death and the Mage of beginning having survived negi + asuna attack and the sudden rescue of nagi who was possessed by the Mage seems all to fishy

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

I believe something has happened during the Mage of beginning raid, plus fate is to good to be the final boss now.

Assuming he’s the final boss and not just a big boss.

Or touta is actually negi but with his magic and memory surpress as well as having his for change…

*lol* I’m laughing that my “Negi is Nagi” theory from back in the day has morphed into “Negi is Touta.” ^_~

Anyway, lots of stuff we don’t know yet.

      • Aki says:

True at the moment it is assumed touta is a decendant of negi and nagi, we had no real evidence that they are related yet.

Can’t remember the present year but touta is to young to have physically meet negi not to mention his memories were sealed.

Magia erebea is a skill that requires people to master so tout would have required to learn it, negi or Eva could have taught it and considering fate reaction, he well aware of what touta truly it… Which is ironic cause he more like asuna, the mysterious character with no pass and has ridiculous skills

        • AstroNerdBoy says:

2084 is when Touta’s parents supposedly died, so if it has been two years, then it should be 2086. I can’t remember if Negi’s date of death was clearly stated, but if it was prior to Touta’s apparent birth, then yeah, Touta wouldn’t have met Negi.

Magia erebea is a skill that requires people to master so tout would have required to learn it, negi or Eva could have taught it and considering fate reaction, he well aware of what touta truly it…

This is why I don’t subscribe to the “Touta inherited it” theory. Someone learning karate or jujitsu is not going to genetically pass that knowledge to their children. Same with Magia Erebea, as I see it.

Now, this being the future, there’s nothing to say that Touta doesn’t have knowledge implanted within him so that he has access to it on a master’s level. Having his memories sealed would mean that in this case, this implanted knowledge is accessed on an instinctive level rather than a conscious one.

          • Aki says:

I just pulled out volume 38 from my shelf, negi date of birth may 2 1993 – date of death June 12 2065 the year they fought Mage of beginning.

Year asuna woke is 2135, some 50 years in future from touta time… This make chao more of grand daughter to touta… The wiki page asuna search says Negi Springfield (May 2 1993 – present) … First CEO of International Solar System Development Association… Current where abouts in known.

So negi is acknowledge as an immortal to the public, judging from his public wiki, 2065 hosted the battle against the MoB, the same year he supposedly died… So something has happened during that conflict and it unlikely the immortal hunters killed him…

Another issue comes with touta’s magia erebea. Touta was 14 as of 2084… That means negi couldn’t have taught him (assuming he dead and not pulling a nagi) also we have an issue of whether or not he is the actual grandson of Negi… Also konoka was more or less set up to be with setsuna.

Evageline didn’t really meet touta until a number of years before his parents death so it rather mind boggling as to how and when he could have learnt magia erebea since the whole process required you to face and accept your inner darkness.

So right now we have 2003-2004 that was the whole ala alba vs Cosmo Entelecheia, 2020-2021 is when negima ends with nagi saved. 2065 the immortal hunters + UQ holder vs the Mage of Beginning and the apparent death of Negi Springfield (someone who as strong as Fate, Rakan and none magia erebia Evageline) 2070 the birth of Touta, 2084 the immortalisation of Touta 2086 the current affairs and the sudden appearance of a third magia erebea user

2135-2142 chao lingshen timeline the she is at war for at least 7 years (she kept hoping back to the present from her future in synch) this would make her negi great great grand daughter at least and her runes seem more like synthetic magia erebea…

Guess we will have to wait and see how akatmatsu clear things up

          • AstroNerdBoy says:

Yeah, there’s a lot he needs to clear things up on. I’m hoping to get a start on this soon, but we’ll see.

  4. Mike M. says:

My more than likely wrong prediction of how things will play out is that at some point Touta will find out that its actually UQ Holder that has ulterior motives and is making moves thst is ultimately threatening the Mars project. This causes Touta to have to make a moral choice of staying on the wrong team or going up against the group and mentor he considered his allies.

My reasoning is based off three things: First, if that is Fate then he stated in Negima his main focus is the preservation of the magical world. The fact that he is opposing UQ Holder may indicate that their detrimental to that goal. Second, Kuromaru’s accusations toward Touta that he’s to trusting when he just goes headfirst into joining UQ Holder without knowing anything about them could be foreshadowing. Third, in the flashback it shows Eva participating in the search for the Mage of Beginning. It seems weird that if they succeeded and she was a known participant that her bounty wasnt lifted. So its possible her original bounty was but since then her actions have caused it to be reinstated.

Again, its a stretch. But having Touta fight through the ranks of UQ Holder and come face to face with Eva could be neat.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

My more than likely wrong prediction of how things will play out is that at some point Touta will find out that its actually UQ Holder that has ulterior motives and is making moves thst is ultimately threatening the Mars project.

That would be an interesting twist. Of course, it may not be ulterior motives, but rather good intentions paving the road to hell.

    • Seimei says:

Mike M & Astro : No, I do not think that UQ-Holder attempt to harm your Mars (and the world-magical side), I think they essairont to distribute wealth equally between the Earth and Mars.

And the world-magic is already saved, I think Fate does not want seulemnt help the world-but ALL magical worlds. And I guess in his mind inégalitées are necessary to maintain order. Besides, he has not committed the “strong hand” to fight Holder at the base but to hunt illegal refugees “acroissent social disorder” in the words of Nagumo.

I believe we are headed for a structure to three camps :
      Tota – and UQ -Holder
      Fate – and ” Martians ”
      – The life -maker (yes , Sensei has not mentioned so early to give him the role as listed in negima !) . It will surely be the main antagonniste , it can not be Fate , we know too that character ( technical and history ) .

Fate for me rather jourait the role of ” Kurt Godel ” pragmatic bounded. While the role of large -villain that stood “fate averruncus ” will be given to life -maker in person. ^ ^ I also think that its objectives are VERY different from those he had in Negima . The world -magic is already saved and in addition , the final battle against him took place on Mars in the not – mundus magicus ! That he prepared ? I confess to being curiously and hope finally even fight and show us his technical ^ ^

ps: I see VERY bad Touta betray UQ – Holder, or Holder – UQ become villains . Would that because the manga is called ” UQ -Holder ” and that while eyeing the Seinen manga there is a Shonen and therefore access to the power of amitiée and everything else ^ ^ . And I do not think the fans appreciate ( I count not ” haters ” well on lol ^ ^)…

      • Seimei says:

“I do not think the fans would like Tota fighting UQ-holder” (I prefer clear lol)

        • AstroNerdBoy says:

Understood. ^_^ I agree, they probably wouldn’t like, but some in UQ Holder have been opponents in Negima. ^_~

      • AstroNerdBoy says:

We haven’t seen what conditions are like on Mundus Magicus. The Magic World may have been saved, but it may be a crummy place to live. Or, the ruling elite may control it and want to expand their empire.

As to UQ Holder becoming the villains, I agree it isn’t likely, but at the same time, I don’t see it out of the realm of possibility. At the very least, they are considered villains by some like Nagumo. ^_~

  5. SL from MH says:

What do you know, i was right about the possibility of Nagumo working for an Immortal (though its partially correct at this moment).

  6. andmeuths says:

For some reason, I wonder whether this is even Evangeline’s native time-line.It’s extremely wild speculation, based on no evidence. But if every possible Asuna had to be sent back to another time-line to replace the one who was sealed, there is likely a base time-line that has been shafted with no Asuna beside Negi, then that one time-line is in trouble. I wonder whether UQ Holder was formed as an extra-ordinary measure, to account for the effects of having no Asuna present in that one time-line.

Of course, my reasoning could be wrong, and I’m over-thinking this, and I can think of any number of arguments against this wild theory.

  7. WMC says:

Whaat? Yawl’re still ridin this local, waitin for a destination? Aint gonna happen. There is no destination. Laughing all the way, the motorman will continue to switch tracks, rerailing UQH with ever more anomalous, inconsistent, cartoony stuff. And magical missteps and stumbles, just to give the innocent ticket-holder a ride. This is my last wave as you pass — on a slow, creepy shin-train that has no clock, no schedule and no terminal. Did I see some heads nodding?

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

Did I see some heads nodding?

Only ’cause it is way past my bedtime. ^_~ (kidding…well, it is past my bedtime)

  8. NullApostle says:

Meh. Another combat chapter. At least we saw the others do some things.

I wonder where Nagumo’s irrational hatred of immortals come from. Inferiority complex?

I’m NOT happy to see Fate as an antagonist again. This basically invalidated, I don’t know, the last third (?) of Negima’s Magic World Arc and Negi’s aggressive befriending of Fate, thus turning him into an ally. I don’t want to see old arguments rehashed in UQH.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

Meh. Another combat chapter. At least we saw the others do some things.

      Eva was what made the chapter for me, but that’s just me. ^_^;;;;

I can understand that. However, Fate’s allying himself with Negi was always conditional. Had Negima continued on, I figured Fate would turn on Negi again. In this timeline, it would seem that Fate didn’t turn on Negi in life, but when Negi died, Fate went “screw it” and that was that.

  9. WMC says:

Magic from Japan. Seiji Uehara, reliever for the Red Sox, throws an unhittable split-finger fastball. Catch him if you can.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

      I quit watching baseball years ago. Then again, I don’t watch TV any more save for whatever DVDs and BDs I own. ^_^;;;

      • WMC says:

Ah. Truly nerdy then? I do watch the idiot box, but as with the internet, very selectively. There’s actually some pretty good stuff, like History Channel 2 sometimes. And baseball. In hlgh density it’s what we’ve always wanted. The cameras are so good that motion can be slowed way down without loss of clarity. Pretty trick. We can clearly see the ambling rotation on the ball, the exact mechanics of a batter as he cranks one, and the way too many egregious mistakes by the umps!

Ok. No more baseball. I didn’t think it would pass in the first place. Your patience is saintly.

        • AstroNerdBoy says:

          Ah. Truly nerdy then?

*lol* Not quite. I got rid of my satellite access in 2008 when I lost my job. I never restored it even after I was re-employed in 2009 due to trying to save money and I’ve done without ever since.

Ok. No more baseball. I didn’t think it would pass in the first place. Your patience is saintly.

I don’t have a problem with baseball. I used to be a big Atlanta Braves follower, but then for some reason, I stopped following them and baseball completely. Not sure why since this trend started before I got rid of TV.

          • WMC says:

I beg your pardon. I assumed it was a purely ethical choice. I am part proud nerd, part scholar and part jock. Coincidently, I’m a longtime Braves fan, recently lapsed. Glavine, Maddux and Smoltz have all reached Nirvana. Quantum computing will function in our era, and many of the reporting errors from WW II are being fixed, I’m happy to say.

          • AstroNerdBoy says:

Glavine, Maddux and Smoltz were the bomb and a half for sure. We had that one closer who said something that got him into trouble who was pretty good too. Man, I suddenly miss those days.

          • WMC says:

About my comment above, April 7 @ 7:30. I better fix this in case one of them reads it. Gavine, Maddux and Smoltz have reached VALHALLLA, not Nirvana. Wrong heaven for warriors.

          • AstroNerdBoy says:

Har! I doubt they’d read here, but one never knows for sure. ^_^

  10. Seimei says:

Or “how to judge a manga on the firsts 29 chapters” , sorry but like any others who have said the same thing before you, your reviews yet worthless , just like mine is worthless non -plus. The manga is only 30 chapter !

I mean for me lol negima only became exciting to bow Mahora tournament and BEGINS to become well kyoto arc . Before had what? :
    Fan – Service
    harem douteu
and many small plane -culottes .

If I followed you as logical I never read Negima me since I would be based on the first 30 chapter. Have the OVA -world of magic that have made me a fan and I bought the series suddenly salt!

For me it is obvious that the author wants to go fast because:
he wants to get back into action
it is not necessary to develop extensively worldwide UQ , it is identical to Negima ^ ^

ps: the way most non- negima had no story at the beginning , as I had just said the “fan -service- pants .” Again, the ” history has put in place from the rainbow mahora . ^ ^

    Therefore are truncated arguments.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

Even though the manga is only 30 chapters, some titles are easier to get into than others, even from the first chapter.

  11. Eva-chan fan says:

I hope that is not the timeline where Asuna is sleeping… Ken Akamatsu should have continue Negima instead of make UQ Holder…

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

I agree that Negima should have been continued. I wish I could interview Akamatsu-sensei and get the whole story on that.

    • Seimei says:

Astro & Eva-fan : I agreements that Negima ended abruptly.

      HOWEVER !

I understand why Akamatsu . His original plan was to Negima for a Nekketsu fantaisy of heroic- type and that it is brilliantly managed to do this with Negima he would probably end his career on a pure shonen worthy of his dreams. ^ ^

Moreover , although I loved Negima I must say that I enjoy reading MUCH Holder ( also why I was fuming when I read Dargoe as haters or over- master which seems to say to fans of the manga, with some gossip too subtle : “If you love uq -holder is that you are a perfect idiot ” Or at least that ‘s how I feel . .

More I love the whole ” family trensmission ” sub- entands UQ – Holder. It reminds me of Jojo ‘s bizarre adventure and its many heroes generation after generaton . ^ ^

Personally I ‘m pretty sure – is the future or Asuna sleeps. If this were the future when it comes time magic would had proved earlier and so was the timeline of the Chao world would be in an even worse state hundred times I ‘m sure. Why do you also dérengerais Eva- fan?

      • Seimei says:

In addition I also like the idea of showing us the world 50 or 60 years-tards with new heroes I belongs to those who were not particularly attached to the 3-A, except Kaede, ku-fei, yue mana and WELL ON Eva-sama.

The opportunity to review some members yes but I still stuck with the “harem Negi for 30 volumes” NO THANKS!

There was pure shonen with a good percentage of girl and boys and new storylines that will probably turn more around the world, magic, the problem is clearly resolved. Besides, I attands many mage of the bigening! Finally a manga where it is probably not daya extras! I can not wait to see him and to know his new goal (world-magical being saved).

All that to say that the Akamatsu me up I would also “UQ-Holder” rather than simply “Negima 2”. ^ ^

        • Seimei says:

ps : “There was pure shonen with a good percentage of girl and boys and new storylines” = I spoke well on UQ-Holder there, sorry a lack of conjugation (thank you google trad STILL grrr lol)

          • Seimei says:

and then the idea of introducing multiple types of immortalitées chacunes having its strengths and weaknesses I think it’s AWESOME ! ^ ^

          • AstroNerdBoy says:

            No problem. ^_^

      • AstroNerdBoy says:

I think Negima‘s end was partially due to Akamatsu-sensei getting all of his copyrights and partially due to the political climate in Japan regarding the kind of manga that can be sold.

Personally I ‘m pretty sure – is the future or Asuna sleeps.

Yeah, that’s what I think at the moment.

  12. WMC says:

About the movie “5 Centimeters per Second” recent blog by “The Infinite Zenith”. I very strongly recommend this latest version. It’s greatly expanded and improved. Much different and better from before, done in excellent English. His commentary qualifies as terrific. Most of the prior text has been replaced with dead-right-on, accurate descriptions and mature, sensitive judgements. One highlight is the full text of Akari’s fairwell, undelivered love letter to Takako. Great stuff!

So far, it has only one “reply,” but it deserves a great many more from all of the anime afficianados of the world.

I found it under “Japan/Iwafune Town Search”>images. You get a big mosaic of images, including several from “5cm”. When I visited, the picture on the thirteenth row of a train rail yard as seen from a bridge had a red footnote that read “Cherry blossoms . . . “. Tapped it and bingo. A huge, beautiful blog posting.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

I’m aware of the movie, but haven’t seen it.

      • WMC says:

This guy’s blog is so good you might not have to. He includes 60 clips in three huge, separate entries as well as excellent text.

Don’t remember that big Kraut reliever’s name, but I saw him throw four pitches in a row at 104 mph on the radar gun!
