Fate/kaleid liner PRISMA☆ILLYA 2wei! Episode 03 REVIEW
Fate/kaleid liner プリズマ☆イリヤ
Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei! – 03

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei! - 03In Luvia’s basement, Dark (Kuro) Ilya is bound as Rin begins to interrogate her, Luvia, Miyu, and Ilya in observance. Kuro says that her name is Ilya, and she’s only interested in killing the original. Rin figures out that Kuro wants to replace Ilya, but since Kuro isn’t being helpful, Rin and Luvia obtain Ilya’s blood and place a blood seal upon Kuro, meaning that if Ilya is harmed in anyway by anyone, Kuro will feel the pain, including death. Rin gives Ilya the Lancer card just in case, but when Ilya comes home, she discovers Kuro is there hitting on her adopted older brother, Shirou. Ilya hurts herself repeatedly to inflict pain on Kuro when Rin and Luvia show up to capture Kuro, leaving Shirou confused.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei! - 03With Miyu addressing Shirou as “oniichan” and embracing him, Ilya learns that she had a brother similar to Shirou. After Miyu leaves, Ilya ponders all this. The following day, Ilya is shocked with Luvia is at her door with a limo for Shirou, but since Shirou already went to school, she gives Ilya a ride instead. At school, things get worse for Ilya as her friends accuse her of stealing their first kiss. Ilya soon discovers that Kuro is behind all of this, finding her on the roof of the school, having seduced and deep kissed Mimi. Kuro reveals that she’s doing it for mana/prana. Ilya transforms, but her conflict with Kuro is discovered by her friends. As such, Kuro introduces herself as Chloe, a cousin of Ilya who’s transferring to this school, and apologizes for her method of greeting them.

Thoughts/Review:

Well, so we get an explanation for why Chloe/Kuro plays tonsil hockey with every girl she sees. Well, I say explanation, but it comes off more as an excuse. After all, if Kuro needs mana/prana to recharge, then she should be going for everyone, including Ilya.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei! - 03

As to Kuro’s reason for wanting to kill Ilya, it is rather silly, but it opens up an unexpected “oniichan” love triangle comedy angle.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei! - 03

Speaking of “oniichan” and love triangles, I laughed out loud when Luvia and Rin both revealed themselves to be very interested in Shirou. That makes the situation into a love pentagon. If one adds Miyu into the equation, then a love hexagon. Am I missing anyone else in love with Shirou?

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei! - 03

Regardless, now that Rin and Luvia are vying for Shirou, that should add to the comedy elements of the series.  No doubt a lot of the jokes will be ones I’ve already seen in other franchises, but considering how funny this episode was, I’m thinking that even old jokes won’t be stale. ^_^

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei! - 03

Of course, there could be new ones, such as Luvia already planning to marry Shirou into her family, therefore Ilya should go ahead and address her as “oneesama.” *lol*

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei! - 03

While we are still on the subject of Shirou, having Miyu suddenly address him as “oniichan” upon her first meeting and her reactions to him, and explanation of him reminding her of her own brother, I suddenly had a thought that Miyu will turn out to be another Ilya from another world. I don’t know why, but I have that thought in my head. Was that something revealed last series, or did I spoil myself somehow?

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei! - 03

Returning to the plot, I liked the solution that Rin and Luvia came up with to protect Ilya from Kuro’s murderous side. Not only is the blood seal a good protection for Ilya, but it too opens up an unexpected slapstick comedy door, which was used quite a bit when Ilya was attempting to stop her dark self from making moves on Shirou by attacking herself, thus inflicting pain upon Kuro.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei! - 03

Now that Kuro is going to be a permanent new character in the series, where does the plot go from here? I can’t imagine that the whole series will be a slapstick affair with Kuro and Ilya fighting for the love of “oniichan,” teaming up to fight Rin and Luvia when they get too close.  It will be interesting to see where things go.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei! - 03

So while I am uncomfortable with the loli love-action stuff, the episode was pretty funny and enjoyable.

There is Sakura too but I guess she didn’t appear yet…

About Miyu being from another world… your genre savvy sense is too sharp for your own good.

As for where it goes. Remember that lady in the suit that appeared at the end of the first series? She will be Very relevant.

I didn’t think Sakura had shown up, unless it was a forgotten cameo in the first series.

As for where it goes. Remember that lady in the suit that appeared at the end of the first series? She will be Very relevant.

I had completely forgotten about that final scene from the first series. Thanks for the reminder. ^_^

  2. Ostia says:

You didn’t miss anything in regards to Miyu. Her back-story is the center of the 3rei manga.
Your guess, while not entirely correct, is already rather close.

And Kuro needs to mooch prana for reasons explained later on.

  3. Farray says:

Nothing much to say about this chapter. But I do want to mention that Kuro’s seal looks like Rin’s Command Spell in FSN.

Well, so we get an explanation for why Chloe/Kuro plays tonsil hockey with every girl she sees. Well, I say explanation, but it comes off more as an excuse.

Well, you might say it’s a general excuse, but it wasn’t an uncommon believe hundreds and thousands of years ago when people thought body fluids have special abilities. Nasu commonly uses this idea in his works, whether it’s blood, saliva or… those that are exchanged during sexual intercourse (hello, h-scenes).

In Tsukihime, Hisui and Kohaku are so-called “sympaths”, who can strengthen their target physically and mentally. But yes, Ilya and Miyu would be the best targets for Kuro, since their kaleidosticks can replenish them anyway and the sticks can generate infinite mana.

As to Kuro’s reason for wanting to kill Ilya, it is rather silly, but it opens up an unexpected “oniichan” love triangle comedy angle.

Actually, you haven’t really heard her reason for killing Ilya yet. It was foreshadowed in the first manga and was cut in the anime.

Regardless, now that Rin and Luvia are vying for Shirou, that should add to the comedy elements of the series.

See this chapter here, how they fell in love with Shirou: http://www.batoto.net/read/_/61550/fatekaleid-liner-prisma%E2%98%86illya-2wei_v01_ch04.5_by_suimasen-scans

Perhaps it will be animated as a bonus episode, like last season’s bonus scenes.

Well, there is still the mystery of who Kuro exactly is, as well as Ilya’s background. As I’ve mentioned earlier, Kuro’s eye color should give you an idea. Miyu’s story is also still not known.

Btw, did you watch the scene after the ED this time? 😛 (Nothing really important happened though.) And also the ED card, that Shirou was hilarious (http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa288/reversethieves/show%20images/Type%20Moon/Fate%20Kaleid%20Liner%20Prisma%20Illya/Fate2wei03-A.jpg). Overall a very funny episode. I loved the faces the girls made.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that method from the original visual novel. (I’ve still not read it, but I am well aware of that scene.)

Actually, you haven’t really heard her reason for killing Ilya yet. It was foreshadowed in the first manga and was cut in the anime.

      Which is why I need to read the first manga series. ^_^;

      I’m being thick here, because for some reason, the eye color isn’t ringing a bell with me. I looked at Archer’s eyes in Fate/stay night, but obviously, that’s not the right path. I figure it is something obvious, which is why I’m not seeing it. ^_^;;;

Btw, did you watch the scene after the ED this time? 😛 (Nothing really important happened though.)

Yes I did, where Ilya flees off camera. ^_^ I skipped the ED though. I did see the ED card. Shirou looks VERY wrong there, as if he’s now batting for the other team. *lol*

      • Farray says:

If you do start reading it, make sure to get the Realta Nua PC 2012 version. Unfortunately, it’s no longer purchasable (it was really way too expensive), so the only way to get it now is “yar har fiddle dee dee”ing it, if you know what I mean… Realta Nua is an update of the original PC 2004 version, with many more CGs, new tracks, h-alt scenes that replace the h-scenes etc. Some kind people from BL translated this version, they even added the OPs ufotable made for the VITA port and the PS VITA OST. I think they will release a final patch very soon.

        http://forums.nrvnqsr.com/showthread.php/4745

There’s also a switch to switch between h-alt scenes and h-scenes. There are 2 h-scenes in Fate, 1 in UBW and 3 or 4 in HF.The only h-scenes that make remotely sense and weren’t just added for the sake of h-scenes are (maybe) the second one from Fate and , I think, all of HF, so a switch isn’t a bad idea. The entire HF route should be read with the h-scenes switch permanently on.

I think I knew that from the first anime…or rather came to believe that.

I don’t think it was mentioned in the anime. Then again, I can’t the remember the anime well…

  4. Farray says:

And now some very important news (I’d say this deserves another blog post ^_^):

Type-Moon held a cool event last weekend regarding the Fate Project (also via livestream on Nico Nico Douga, where they announced several new adaptations, games and other stuff like Fate/strange fake (manga and light novel), Fate/Grand Order, an iOS/Android version for the Fate route and more info about the upcoming Fate/hollow ataraxia adaptation for the PS Vita.

But of course the most important news were about the new ufotable projects!

After already releasing some info and trailers

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPItqNsCXM4
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ShGZoBkrRA
    http://tune.pk/video/2863576/fate-stay-night-ufotable-2014-machi-asobi-special-demo-trailer

ufotable have finally announced which route they will pick up. The voice actors of the FSN main characters also showed up. Watch this for the trailer:

    http://www.nyaa.se/?page=view&tid=581243 (subbed)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spseKv7jtmY

Yes, it’s Unlimited Blade Works! After the disaster of a movie by Studio DEEN, ufotable have decided to adapt the second route of FSN! Like Fate/Zero, it’s going to be split-cours with a one-cours break.

The componist this time isn’t Yuki Kajiura, but Hideyuki Fukasawa and I am not unhappy with this decision. He composed the music for Type-Moon’s latest Visual Novel Mahou Tsukai no Yoru (here are some samples: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpJajutIBNI and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nTGcpO2NsY).

And when everyone thought it was over, this trailer was shown. Of course everyone looked disappointed because it just looked like the second trailer they released months ago. But then…

    http://www.nyaa.se/?page=view&tid=580459 (subbed)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3X7JEFF9mvs

The reaction of the audience (and the stream monsters) was just awesome. I think Sakura’s voice actress, Noriko Shitaya, even cried, lol.

But yes. It’s really happening. The final route, Heaven’s Feel, is happening! And it’s going to be a movie. It’s not specified, but the terminology they use (Theatrical Anime) is the same they use for Kara no Kyoukai, rather than the much more common term (Theatrical Feature), so it may be a movie series and not just a single movie. FYI, Kara no Kyoukai is another famous Light Novel series that was written by Nasu and then animated by ufotable (and it’s in my opinion definitely worth watching).

So… lots of Fate/stay night incoming I guess, haha. I am looking forward to this fall season.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

I’m excited by all of the new stuff coming. ^_^

How many movies were Kara no Kyoukai? I never did watch them.

    • Farray says:

How many movies were Kara no Kyoukai? I never did watch them.

Seven movies + an epilogue + an additional episode (Mirai Fukuin – Future Gospel), which includes some bonus chapters (animated versions of some doujins Takashi Takeuchi, Type-Moon’s lead artist did http://www.batoto.net/comic/_/comics/kara-no-kyoukai-mirai-fukuin-r4816). Around 10 or 11 hours of footage.

The movie series was ufotable’s and Type-Moon’s (and Yuki Kajiura’s) first collaboration. It’s universally praised for its animation and music. The best fansubbed version was done by ANE, they took care of the seven movies and the epilogue, while UTW subbed Mirai Fukuin. Not the bonus chapters yet, though.

Kara no Kyoukai is the prototype for many other works of Type-Moon (Sakura is for example based on one of the girls appearing in KnK). Terms like the Root, Akasha, and Origin are introduced here. My twitter profile pic is also from Kara no Kyoukai. If you are into philosophical debates, murder mystery thriller and some decent action, you will probably like this anime. It’s a bit confusing at the beginning though, since the order of the movies isn’t chronological, so people in general marathon the series.

      • AstroNerdBoy says:

I have six “episodes” plus Mirai Fukuin. So I guess I need #7 and whatever epilogue there is.

      • Farray says:

I’m pretty sure you would have noticed that the series is incomplete if you had watched the first six movies… ^_^ Also, the Mirai Fukuin Extra Chorus bonus chapters are missing, but as I’ve said above they aren’t subbed yet.

This is also a series where ufotable made use of their infamous claymation. Every movie started with a cute little intro (with some funny nods to other Type-Moon works) like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OnLDxxE1Ec

The credit songs were also Kalafina’s, Yuki Kajiura’s band’s, first works. Since Kajiura was also the composer of the series, the songs are often vocal versions of the movies’ theme songs and the text is also related to the movie.

What is more interesting is that most of the time there is a post-credit scene, so you shouldn’t stop the video when the credits roll. ^_^

        • AstroNerdBoy says:

Also, the Mirai Fukuin Extra Chorus bonus chapters are missing, but as I’ve said above they aren’t subbed yet.

I found something by ATS called “Extra Chorus” in English. Don’t know how good it is. It is a large file though.

What is more interesting is that most of the time there is a post-credit scene, so you shouldn’t stop the video when the credits roll. ^_^

I’ll probably still skip the ED, but I’ll make sure that I check past that for extra scene(s). ^_^

          • Farray says:

Oh yeah, forgot that release. KoyuuKekkai also did one iirc. UTW hasn’t released Extra Chorus is what I wanted to say. ^_^

          • AstroNerdBoy says:

Ah. Gotcha. At this point, I wonder if they will, considering their founder is pretty much calling it quits.

  5. Random Lurker says:

Kuro having to kiss to get prana is toned down version of what Fate/Stay Night had ^^”
Well, the original case is pretty much just an excuse anyways, so your point stands.

Also, a minor omake spoiler (that unfortunately will probably will never make it to anime):
Sakura’s also in love with Shirou. Probably. Her part is so small (“Sempai!”) it’s impossible to say for sure, but considering this is F/SN character we’re talking about here…

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

Kuro having to kiss to get prana is toned down version of what Fate/Stay Night had ^^”

      Yes, that’s true. ^_^;;;

Sakura’s also in love with Shirou. Probably. Her part is so small (“Sempai!”) it’s impossible to say for sure, but considering this is F/SN character we’re talking about here…

I just read the manga chapter from 2wei where Sakura shows up to assist Shirou, who’d been caught in the crossfire of Luvia’s and Rin’s fight.

  6. NullApostle says:

And now for something completely different:

New Genshiken chapter, whooo! Madarame enters the Keiko route. Let’s see what he makes of it.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

You are the awesome-est! Thanks for letting me know about that. (I just read the first of the two new chapters — outrageously funny! I can’t wait to write that one up! ^_^)
