Thoughts/Review:

Well, it is clear that these episodes aren’t being designed to be put back together to make some kind of sense in a half hour format.

Ai Tenchi Muyo! - 03

Another thing that is clear here is that some kind of story is attempting to be told, which I’m all in favor of.

Ai Tenchi Muyo! - 03

That being said, I’m not really a fan of how things have been done so far. I realize there’s a shortage of time per episode to do anything, but this unexpected jump back in time came off as rather jarring, considering that episode 2 had Tenchi in bondage.

Ai Tenchi Muyo! - 03

For those wondering where I see this series falling, considering Ai Tenchi Muyo is a Negishi creation, I would think that this series would fall into the Tenchi Universe timeline. I really got that feeling seeing Washu in this episode.

Ai Tenchi Muyo! - 03

Speaking of Washu, it was awesome hearing her again. And yeah, I know I’m YEARS overdue on my article on Tenchi Muyo! OVA 3 that I need to do. ^_^;

Well, not much else to say about this episode, so onto the next one.

WAIT- This may fall under the Tenchi Universe universe?? This may be worth watching then…

  2. evgenidb says:

The best episode so far! If you don’t believe it, watch the rest that were released so far.

I happily take my words back. Episode 7 looks like a typical Tenchi Muyo scene(s). Finally! We have a new champion for the title “best episode so far”.

      There’s hope guys and gals!

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

This was the best episode to date? Not sure how I feel about that. (I won’t get to watch episodes 5+ until next week sometime.)

      • evgenidb says:

It’s the one that made the most sense, didn’t have that much ecchi slapping your face half the episode, started to tell what the heck happened, etc. In short – episode with some plot and sense and not an episode plot/dumb “comedy” and mostly ecchi.

So, yeah, of all the episodes that week, I liked this one the most.

episode 7 is the best so far. Its quite exciting to know what happens next after TMiL2. Never would have expected a continuation yet here we have one! I think…

          Seven, counting the recap episode?

          • evgenidb says:

Probably. That’s when the main gang is showing up. And the two groups that are translating the episodes in English are counting the recaps.

P.S. Maybe we should implement a some kind of standard, preferably including both versions of the episode count to eliminate the confusion. Something like “episode 10 (12 with recaps)” or “episode 12 (10 no-recaps)”. More writing, but at least less confusion in the end.

          • AstroNerdBoy says:

Yeah, I guess I might have to do something like that on the episode counts.

  3. evgenidb says:

Ladies and Gents, it is confirmed – in episode 9 we have ***SPOILER***. So probably it’ll come into play later. And… we’re back in the school *sign*. Oh well, at least this episode was more interesting and made more sense than the rest in the same location. So, there is still hope for this series.

Negishi might be pulling the circle he did in Universe with him walking through the cherry blossoms in the first episode and telling us how it all happened in the last. I only watched bits and pieces but I did see the plot being set up here and there, but I don’t like the jumps in continuity. Its certainly better than universe where each episode stood on its own like a sitcom, but at least it had a one way flow.

Also notice the cherry blossoms with the titles logo. Paying homage to the final movie… I don’t know if that will come into affect in some way. Negishi is putting some serious work, but his ecchi humor is on the level of Nabeshin, and it is making me feel like Mr. Watanabe is directing.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head there.

I don’t have that Nabeshin feel here, but I admit it has been a LONG while since I’ve seen one of his titles.
