SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Haiyore! Nyaruko-san W OVANyarlko, Mahiro, Cthuko, Hastur, Tamao, Yoriko, and Shanta-kun head to a three story Japanese inn with a large, outdoor onsen. It is run by Luhy, who shows off the different things to do. Almost immediately, Cthuko and Nyarlko get into a head-to-head arcade battle. The others check out the outdoor bath before coming back in, only to find Nyarlko and Cthuko are gone. Nyarlko puts a special ingredient into the water to make Mahiro go for her. However, Cthuko and Hastur were underwater waiting, so that when Mahiro arrives, they go after him. Nyarlko has to stop them, after which she’s forced to let Mahiro know the truth. After she exposes herself to him to entice him, she’s “attacked” by Cthuko as Hastur comes onto Mahiro.

Haiyore! Nyaruko-san W OVALuhy, Shanta-kun, and Yoriko enjoy a bath as the antics between Nyarlko, Cthuko, and Hastur reach a climax, causing them to fall into the onsen, where Nyarlko’s next “bath salt” packet spills out. This causes the three to split into a large number of chibi sized versions of themselves, where they give chase to Mahiro. He flees to the marriage bath, where Tamao is, but they catch him. After they return to normal, he punishes them, then at the suggestion of his mother, he returns to the onsen to relax. He discovers a depressed Nyarlko is there. After hearing her lament, he reveals himself, so she apologizes and explains that she just wanted their relationship to progress and allow them to have good memories. Fireworks go off, so Nyarlko sits next to him and tells him she loves him. However, she can’t help but spoil the mood by going too far, causing him to punish her with a fork.

Thoughts/Review:

While it is always fun going into the world of Haiyore! Nyaruko-san, this episode was mostly just an excuse for ecchi fanservice.

Haiyore! Nyaruko-san W OVA

One of the things I really loved about the episode was the Love Hina parody elements. The inn was clearly supposed to be Hinata-sou, and the main outdoor onsen was the one Keitaro, Naru, and company used in Love Hina.

I also got a kick out of the Ranma 1/2 reference with the area of the inn that supposedly had all of those natural, onsen pools.

I couldn’t help but feel sorry for Tamao, who still has unrequited feelings for Mahiro.

As to Mahiro’s and Nyaroko’s relationship, when Nyaroko calms down, she actually makes progress with Mahiro. Sadly, she can never hold herself back enough, which I understand is done for comedy purposes, and thus ruins the moment.

Yoichi was mostly just a cameo character in the episode. Sadly, forcing him into this thing in the limited way he was came off as jarring.

Other than that, the episode was just packed with ecchi content, so much so that at times, I began to wonder if we were about to delve into hentai realms. ^_^;;;;

In the end, while I loved the Love Hina parody stuff (and a list of other parody elements in the episode can be found here), and I liked the one quite moment between Nyarlko and Mahiro, this episode wasn’t really my cup of tea. Hopefully the next OVA will be more to my liking.

I watched this long time ago and then I forgot to see what references I didn’t get, so thanks for the link!!

As an overall, I really liked the Nyaruko series, so I hope to see all of the ¿Story?. at least in manga form.

Well, the next OVA is the last one produced, and it’s more powerful storywise so it serves a purpose being called a sequel of sorts.

I’m gonna miss Cthuko, she was my favourite girl in this series.

R.I.P. Matsuki Miyu, I loved your unique voice.

You’re welcome. I’m glad I still had it bookmarked from the days of the TV series. (And I’m still glad the blog still exists. I remember being ticked with the Hayate the Combat Butler parody reference site disappeared from the web.)

My review of that will publish in a couple of days or so.

Oh yeah, I forgot she did the voice of Cthuko. Well, they could still do another anime series with another seiyuu who can sound similar. Lupin III has done it quite successfully as nearly all of their seiyuu have changed since when the first series started (save for Jigen’s).
