SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Macross Delta 14 Kaname and Freyja hand out relief supplies on the damaged artificial island, which is suffering from power shortages. Though Macross Elysion has more than enough spare power to supply to the island, the island’s docking port has been damaged. Chuck meets with his surviving family members before joining Freyja, Mirage, and Hayate on the bridge to meet with Arad and Ernest. There, they learn the desperate financial situation Chaos is in now that they’ve been defeated. Hayate, Mirage, and Freyja go off and discuss things, including Hayate’s past and the concept of home.

Macross Delta 14 With power failing on the island, endangering the civilians, repairs are rushed to fix things so that Macross Elysion can dock with the island and supply it power. Mirage and Hayate take advantage of the loss of gravity in their section to fly to the area where two giant, multi-story power cables need to be reconnected after some minor repair work. Freyja joins other members of Walküre to put on a concert and the dome over the island breaks, causing air to escape. After great difficulties, Hayate and Mirage get the power cable fixed just as Macross Elysion docks. This restores power, which restores artificial gravity, causing Mirage and Hayate to end up in a precarious situation.

Thoughts/Review:

Hey, we are running out of air, food, water, and are about to die. I know, let’s have a magical idol girl concert ’cause that’ll fix everything! Yeah!

Macross Delta 14

But WAIT! The dome on the artificial island conveniently breaks, meaning all of the civilians inside are going do die!!!

Macross Delta 14

Bah! Forget that! Time for another song! Hey, magical idol concerts fix EVERYthing. Don’t forget to buy the music CDs!

Macross Delta 14

*Begins bashing head on desk repeatedly.*

Macross Delta 14

You know, I was ready to say some positive things about having an episode where Chaos has to deal with being on their own and having an artificial island full of civilians. But the crap in this episode really made me want to vomit on top of bashing my head, negating anything positive.

Macross Delta 14

So, why exactly did Mirage and Hayate have to strip down to do the repairs to the power supply on the island?

Macross Delta 14

Oh yeah, there IS no reason from a story perspective. But those who see Mirage as their waifu can see her with less clothing. Plus, it continues to force that whole love triangle thing that has no business in here.

Macross Delta 14

Anyway, how lovely for our Chaos members and their magical idol girls that someone new decided to sponsor them to retake the territories that Windermere took. Man, could this story be more hideously written? Convenient things are convenient.

Macross Delta 14

Finally, not that I care that much, but might Mikumo be a true member of Protoculture and not know it?

Macross Delta 14

In the end, the hideous requirement the Japanese have to push song sales, thus constantly forcing us to endure magical idol girl concerts at inappropriate times, makes what could have been a decent episode into something awful.

Yeah, all you said is accurate. But I’m going with a little offtopic:

Last weekend I watched “Macross FB7: Ore no Uta o Kike!” on a streaming site, wrongly thinking it was the special that came with a ps3 game some time ago…

Well, It is a abridged version of Macross7, with the characters of Frontier watching some VHS tapes telling the story like some kind of “found footage” of sorts.

I’m just glad that I didn’t waste my time watching the entire Macross seven 50+ episodes. It is ridiculous and stupid, a pile of crap. I hated It and I hated the characters, and even the mechas. And the music hurt my ears.

Macross Delta is a masterpiece in comparison. If you still want to watch some of it, just watch this poorly edited movie.

And if you want to blame something about the magic music of Delta, It is all fault of Macross7 and the stupid Basara. “Power to the music”???? wtf.

Sorry for the pseudo off topic, but I think you must know from where all the crap of Delta comes. As prevention, I recommend you to not watch Macross 7.

I saw the first episode of Macross 7 years ago. I couldn’t stand the lead character squawking and screeching, demanding folks listen to his song. I was going to force myself to continue, but I never could muster enough whatever to watch again.

Sadly, i’ve spoken and heard from younger/newer viewers of Macross Delta, said they liked it. Which has to say something of tastes of people have changed to non-sense and they don’t like semi-hard science fiction.

I was told (don’t know if really true.) that Music angle is what makers are trying to “sell”. Animes aren’t made just entertain people and hope profits from commerical and toys will sell. Their trying sell music, thus “idol” group theme and power of music & love over comes all.

At least a story of some kind is coming together. Sadly, it looks New United Spacy which initialy (to me) were setup to have dropped the reflex bomb on Windmere) appears to look like they were actually the ones who actually DID drop the bomb on Windmeres in the first place. Which en-turned trigger this new winged nazi-like coalition of mind-controllers posed to get over the entire GALAXY. Go gaud, Delta’s makers really wanted to set bar to over the top this time.

Yeah, I’ve seen that too. I think some people may have gotten upset with me because I wasn’t seeing the show as great.

It absolutely is what the series is trying to sell. That’s why I keep making remarks about, “BUY THE CD!” in my reviews.

Animes aren’t made just entertain people and hope profits from commerical and toys will sell.

Actually, as I’ve been told, anime are pretty much created as an advertisement for a product with the side benefit that they can then sell said advertisement over several DVDs and make more money that way. (Or recoup some of the production costs.) For a series like Macross Delta, the music CDs are first, then the toys, models, etc.

For other series, like the forthcoming UQ Holder anime, it is being done to promote the manga.

      This reminds me, I’m behind. I think episode 15 is out. ^_^;

I think the main problem is that way this show is pushing the music if anything which is the issue with me. I understand completely they need to recouped their costs, but if the vehicle selling it sucks, then don’t matter how good the material their selling is going to be. It will be associated with the failed vehicle.

The older Macross shows, like Macross Frontier were structured fine that people would buy the CD. I think another issue is a generation gap, stuff that came before it. No matter how fantastic was belongs to younger generation’s parents, thus old. Plus they didn’t grow up with same “style” and arguably quality of anime we did. Good / Bad, it has a style, now this gap between generation’s experiences is catching up as makers have to cater to next’s.

In end sucks for people grew up with something really good since the next doesn’t know it really is good.

Unfortunately, anime in Japan today is basically nothing more than an advertisement. In this case, it is an advertisement for music CDs.

Well, that’s true. In that vein, I would love seeing the original Macross series remade with modern animation. They’ve done that for Space Battleship Yamato. I hear they are planning to do it for Mobile Suit Gundam after the OVA The Origin series completed. So why not Macross? That way, kids today would get to see a good series without having the dated art and animation styles.
