Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:

Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 37 Everything has been brought out of storage to decorate Nasa’s and Tsukasa’s room. However, the age of the furnishings makes it seem like they are in a different era.

Meanwhile, Tsukasa has made tonkatsu, something Nasa has only experienced by eating out, since his mom didn’t like frying foods. Nasa is amazed that Tsukasa made the rice using a clay pot. Further, Nasa is astonished that his wife took bargain pork and made it seem like premium pork. Tsukasa wants Nasa to crave only her cooking.

After dinner, Kaname comes by with a melon, which had been given to her by a customer. She remarks on how the room looks like it came from the Shouwa period. Kaname wonders if the TV works, which it does, to Tsukasa’s relief.

After Kaname leaves, Tsukasa and Nasa enjoy the melon. Nasa manages to convince Tsukasa to let him feed her a piece of melon.

Thoughts/Review:

Ah, the vanilla goodness continues in Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 37. And with Tsukasa making tonkatsu, Hata-sensei is really pushing her to be waifu material. ?

Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 37

Tonkatsu Is Awesome!

I grew up in the south of the U.S., breaded, fried pork loin chops were not unknown to me. The first time I had a breaded, boneless pork cutlet as a kid at school, it was not very good. Thus when I went to Japan, on the surface, tonkatsu seemed like that nasty stuff they’d try to feed us at school. Boy was I wrong. After trying tonkatsu for the first time, I became a fan for life.

Enter Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 37. Hata-sensei continues to elevate Tsukasa as perfect waifu material by having her prepare tonkatsu for Nasa. And worst of all, here I am, late at night, trying to write this drivel, but all I can think about is how much I want to eat tonkatsu. ? Maybe I do that Saturday…?

A Shouwa Era Residence

The chapter doesn’t make it clear, but I believe all of the furnishings in Nasa and Tsukasa’s room came from Kaname’s dad. As such, there’s a Jaws movie poster (1975), a 1980s TV set, a rotary dial phone, a radio from the late 50s or early 60s, etc. I can’t help but wonder if Akamatsu-sensei made things so diverse in terms of age to help push the notion of Tsukasa’s very probably immortality.

Further to that end was Tsukasa using a clay pot to cook rice. It is unheard of for a Japanese household to not own a rice cooker. (I’d never heard of one before moving to Japan as we always cooked rice in the same kind of pot we’d cook potatoes or boil corn in.) So it is understandable that Nasa would be amazed that his wife could cook rice in a clay pot.

The fact that Tsukasa used a clay pot not only helps the room with that Shouwa era vibe (the Shouwa period went from 1926 to 1989), but it also helps push that idea that Tsukasa is immortal. After all, who would think to cook rice in a clay pot when rice cookers are everywhere?

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

Well, it is rather late as I write this, so I better wrap up my review of Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 37.

  • Kaname continues to troll Nasa and Tsukasa about their sex life. I don’t know how Japanese fans are regarding this, but I know a lot of American readers whine like crazy because Tsukasa and Nasa aren’t mating like rabbits. ? As such, there’s a part of me that thinks Hata-sensei is using Kaname to troll the complainers.
  • I’ll never feel for fruit the way Japanese feel for fruit. That said, I did laugh at Nasa wanting to feed his wife some melon chunks.

In the end, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 37 is an adorable chapter of a young married couple sharing a meal together.

    I think I’ve just found a new manga. (^_^)

Bad news, I’m afraid: the Cool Japan crowd is getting restless again.

It’s a good thing that in practice, US extradition is generally unilateral. ,XD

Here are two manga in return, if you haven’t found them already: Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san and Karakai Jouzu no (Moto) Takagi-san. No plot, just pure vanilla sweetness that calls to mind the good parts of Usagi Drop.

I’ve been reading both of them. They are hard to blog about, since the “plot” is rather the same, but at the same time, they are very enjoyable.

Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san is a title I’ve really come to enjoy. The fact that characters are growing over time is what takes this from the “whatever” category to something interesting.

Yeah, it really is quite enjoyable.

As to the copyright law crap, what is being proposed can be abused quite heavily. I use copyrighted images as part of fair usage for my articles. But some copyright troll can easily come after me and claim fair usage does not exist.

Heh. I’d planned to watch another Lupin III episode, but now I find myself wanting to catch up on TorrentFreak news. ?

I’m probably just being too dirty-minded, but something about the scene made me think her post-melon face could be a coy stand-in for an ahoge. Then going back and looking again, the whole scene started reminding me a bit of Mysterious Girlfriend X*.

        * – Written by a mangaka disturbed by how teens jump straight to sex; it simultaneously plays with and avoids sexuality. It’s not definitely symbolic, but their ritual could raise eyebrows.

I thought Tsukasa’s “feed me” face had a sexual bent as well. I figure it is more of Hata-sensei trolling.
