Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:

Nasa has a lucid dream. He finds himself in the past near the Houryuuji. A passerby greets him as Miko-sama. Nasa wonders if he is dreaming this due to the trip he had with Tsukasa to the place.

He turns and finds Tsukasa nearby. He addresses her as “Tsukasa-chan”, which seems to annoy her. She complains that she has a headache from planning a sea trip with someone named Imoko. However, she promises to deliver Nasa’s message. Further, she promises to make his dream come true. And she does this because he took her in, so she’s indebted to him.

Nasa feels her words are too much and that an eternal farewell is not a thing. Tsukasa sort of agrees, but remarks on how traveling to the mainland is closer than traveling to the moon. Hence her journey will continue.

Nasa awakes and is crying. He races to the bathhouse to find Tsukasa cleaning with Kaname. The girls inquire about his crying, but he says nothing.

Thoughts/Review:

I see Hata-sensei is up to his old tricks. I believe next week is a non-publishing week for Weekly Shounen SundayWith Hayate the Combat Butler, he’d often do a major plot chapter right before a break. And thus with Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 120, he drops a major plot bomb on us.

Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 120

A Life in the Past?

I’m informed that “Miko-sama” is actually a real person, more commonly known today as Prince Shoutoku. He served Empress Suiko and is the one who built Houryuuji. Imoko was the person he sent to China (the sea trip to the mainland) to form relations with China.

And according to manga fan csmicmind, Tsukasa might be playing the role of Chinese diplomat Pei Shiqing, who came to Japan with Imoko. He bases this on the fact that Tsukasa is wearing a Chinese outfit. I note that Tsukasa was annoyed at being addressed as “Tsukasa-chan”. If she’s going by a Chinese name here, rather than Tsukasa, it would make sense that she’d be annoyed at being addressed incorrectly.

As such, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 120 is strongly suggesting that Nasa may be the reincarnation of Prince Shoutoku. He was addressed as “Miko-sama”, which apparently was a way the prince was addressed. If Nasa was Prince Shoutoku, regardless of what name Tsukasa had at the time, then it suggests that the couple have been together a long time. Nasa reincarnates and Tsukasa is immortal. But they continue to find each other, or rather, have finally found each other again.

Speculation

My speculation on Kaguya and Tsukasa remain unchanged from the previous chapter. However, I want to add to it based on the info from Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 120. When Nasa awakens and is crying, there is a narration that implies that these are Nasa’s thoughts. But what if it is Tsukasa’s narration? After all, it is Tsukasa who’s on the eternal journey as an immortal. And if Nasa was Prince Shoutoku, and the two fell in love in the past, then Tsukasa would have watched a flower of life burn away and scatter into the abyss when the prince grew old and died.

Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 120

I can imagine that Tsukasa from the past, cried out in lament at the loss of her love, and wished for death (or a return to the moon, since that could be her place of origin). And Kaguya heard this, came down, and provided a condition to make Tsukasa’s wish come true. When the prince reincarnated as Nasa, and immediately proposed to Tsukasa after she saved him, that started the beginning of the end of Tsukasa’s journey.

I do think Hata-sensei is going to jack with us at some point in the future. He’s going to produce tears and possibly rage. This was something he wanted to do with the ending of Hayate the Combat Butler, but because he didn’t set up a proper romance ending for the final pairing that he always wanted, combined with the fact that the ending is rushed, he failed miserably. But in the end, he’ll have Nasa and Tsukasa together again.

Also, Tsukasa could be Kaguya-hime from legend. And the Kaguya in the present may be a goddess of some kind.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In the end, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 120 “drops a MOAB” on us with the plot, as blog reader arimareiji noted. And the blast provides the shock Hata-sensei wanted. We’ll have to wait a week for a new chapter, but based on previous Hata-sensei stuff, plot may be put back on the shelf for a while.
