Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:

Haru (Myaako) reflects back on how the loss of her parents didn’t impact her that much. This was because of her best friend, Yaiba. However, Haru is not happy to see her best friend spending so much time with Kaguya in the library. She’s caught spying on the pair by Hakase, who’s looking for Kaguya. Haru asks if Hakase is okay with her childhood friend befriending another girl. Hakase thinks this is fine, shocking Haru.

Haru storms off and goes to wait for Yaiba at Yaiba’s house. Yaiba is displeased to learn Haru ate Yaiba’s snack. Haru confronts her on hanging out with Kaguya. Yaiba tells her she could have come by. Haru tries to downplay it, but gets annoyed when Yaiba talks about how smart Kaguya is. As such, Haru storms off, promising that the gap between them will continue to grow.

The next day at school, Haru recalls a conversation she had with Yaiba on why she addresses Yaiba by her family name, Shirogane. Kaguya finds Haru on the school roof. Kaguya reveals that Yaiba is studying hard so she can remain close friends with Haru. To that end, Kaguya suggests Haru try to understand Yaiba. Yaiba finds Haru on the roof and the two go home together.

Meanwhile, Kaguya asks Hakase if what she did was good enough.

Thoughts/Review:

After seeing the story of Yaiba’s friendship with Haru in the previous chapter, for Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 183, we get to see things from Haru’s perspective.

Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 183

Backstory Filler

I hesitate to use the term “filler” to describe Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 183. That’s because of its negative connotation. However, “filler” does apply here as Hata-sensei decides to do another chapter around some of the girls in Nasa’s class. And to be honest, I don’t mind this backstory. I know that Nasa’s students aren’t hugely popular, at least in Western fandoms. (That’s if what I see is correct.) But it is interesting to me to see how this group of girls became friends.

For me, the more interesting aspect of the story wasn’t why Haru addresses Yaiba by her family name. It was how Haru and Yaiba were not even acquainted with Hakase at this time. However, because of Haru not wanting to lose her best friend to Kaguya, she meets Hakase, who uses Kaguya to help resolve this little dispute.

The other item of interest is the possible tidbit about Kaguya. Hakase implies that she’s been an acquaintance of Kaguya’s since she started going to school. If she means kindergarten, then that would mean that Kaguya here couldn’t be the same Kaguya from Tsukasa’s past. I would guess Kaguya is a reincarnation. However, if the start of school means middle school, then there’s a good chance this is still the same Kaguya. We’ll see where things go.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In the end, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 183 is filler, but does give an interesting insight into some of the friendships of Nasa’s students.
