Wow. It has been a year since I reviewed the previous volume of D-Frag! Time to get back into it.
NOTICE!!! In the interest of full disclosure, I should mention that I am the adapter for the official English translation of the True Tenchi Muyo! novels, which are also published by Seven Seas.

The Story, in Brief
Takao makes cookies to give to Kenji. She gains confidence after Funabori samples one and gives her approval. However, her attempts to give him the cookies are thwarted by an issue over Kenji’s chair, which both Takao and Funabori sat in. Roka attempts to thwart the teachers getting involved by getting them to look for a missing “something.”
One of the teachers comes to confiscate snacks. As such, Kenji scarfs the cookies to save Takao. Unfortunately, the “dark” Shibasaki Family Treasure. Roka is forced to write an apology, so she writes a short story depicting Earth after the treasure is unleashed. She gets the artifact back, but Chitose decides she’ll make Takao cookies.
Takafudo shows up and offers to store the dangerous artifact at her school due to their purity. Kenji is forced to dress up as a girl again to visit with everyone. In addition, Takao and Chitose bring cookies to try to give to Kenji. However, the church designated to store the sinister artifact is overfull and thus full of evil.
Homemade cookies are tossed in to help purify the church. Roka goes in to retrieve the artifact, but doesn’t come out. As such, Kenji goes in after her. After “burning” all of Takao’s and Chitose’s cookies, Kenji and Roka find the artifact and escape thanks to Sakura’s arrival.
One Thing Leads to Another
The wild thing about D-Frag! Volume 18 is that one thing leads to another to continue things. It all starts with Takao wanting to give Kenji cookies. From that simple act, a war over Kenji’s chair erupts, followed by a need to secure Roka’s sinister family treasure.
This volume secures Chitose as a member of Kenji’s harem since she wants to make cookies for Kenji too. While I still love this manga, I have to admit that I prefer Chitose as she was when the manga started. All of her personality from earlier is gone.
It cracked me up that cookies continued to be a thing that continued throughout the whole volume. Naturally, Haruno-sensei uses cookies in the craziest, wackiest, comedic ways possible.
Still, beyond the normal comedic insanity of this manga volume, I have to say that I really liked Roka’s short story. A part of me kinda hoped this was the actual story, where they’d find a way to set things right. But I’m okay with what we got as it was a lot of fun, if short.
Omake
Sadly, there aren’t a lot of extras in D-Frag! Volume 18. I miss seeing an extra manga chapter featuring the Takao family, especially if her mom is involved. Instead, we just get two pages with a rough drawing depicting the purity levels of all the girls. You can guess who’s at the top of the chart. 😉
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
In the end, D-Frag! Volume 18 continues the wacky comedy hijinks we’ve come to expect. It may not be as strong as it once was, but it is still a lot of fun.
