Cardcaptor Sakura Volume 2 (Manga)

As I said previously, I came to the series via the anime and after a LONG period, decided to read the manga. After I read volume 2 of the manga, I have to say, “What the…?!”

So, what got me all excited? This image.

So, in the manga, Terada-sensei proposes to his 10-year old student Rika-chan. E-freaking-gad! And I thought the stuff in the anime was a lot.

I know this manga is a shoujo manga, meaning the target audience were young girls to their early teens. I know that the anime hinted at an attraction between the two, but I was just floored to learn that they are actually a couple in the manga. CLAMP used CCS to hint at several different types of relationships from yaoi (Yukito-san and Touya), shounen-ai/shoutacon (Yukito-san and Li-kun), yuri (Tomoyo-chan’s mother Sonomi and Sakura-chan’s mother Nadeshiko), shoujo-ai (Tomoyo-chan and Sakura-chan), lolicon (Terada-sensei and Rika-chan), straight shoutacon (Mizuki-sensei and Eriol-kun, Mizuki-sensei and Touya when he was in junior high), and sensei-student (in addition to the ones already mentioned, Sakura-chan’s father Fujitaka-sensei and Sakura-chan’s mother Nadeshiko, who was 16 and had been his student when they got married). Did I miss anything?

So, I guess Japanese girls really like all this romance stuff, no matter who’s paired with who. I wonder what other surprises are in store for me in the manga?

    Wonder what it says about me that the first thing that came to mind when I read that scene was “A Jeweler’s only going to be able to expand that ring 1 size, she’ll be wearing it about her neck at the wedding.”

    *lol* That thought never even crossed my mind. I guess he’ll be buying her a new ring, assuming another 10-year old girl doesn’t catch his fancy. ^_^;

    This comment is for a hella, hella old post, but the post brought back memories. Before anime was completely ruined for me by the wave of wee-a-boos that came in … oh, 2003 was when it got too much for me.

    My comment, right. When I was 15 and first read this bit, I was all kinds of jealous of Rika’s relationship with her teacher. I wanted a teacher to fall for me!

    Only, in my translation he said “Don’t lose it until it becomes a wedding ring” and she says “I won’t.” RRrgh, still jealous! Too old to be a shota/loli!

    You may have had the official translation, which I did not (at least, I don’t think so). ^_^;

    Regardless, thanks for the post. I don’t think I wanted a relationship with any of my teachers until college. There was one that some of the guys had the hots for in high school, but she didn’t do it for me. In college though…whew!
