SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

As Sai gloats over the captured Gray, Wendy, and Carla (Charle), the trio suddenly find themselves freed. Rogue reveals himself, so he, Wendy, and Gray wreak havoc on the Gold Owl guild. Two large members, Gennai and Kotetsu, scold Sai for allowing components to run amuck. They then turn to deal with the trio.

Elsewhere, Natsu, Sting, and Yukino race to the old woman’s cave residence. The old woman pleads for mercy, but Natsu punches her anyway for harming his friends. As they attempt to discover why Gold Owl wants them, the mechanical being known as Athena arrives. Before they can do anything, Athena causes them all to cry with her alchemy power.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 129

Thoughts/Review:

We get a fairly fun episode with Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 129. Granted, things follow the standard pattern starting with Rogue’s assault on Gold Owl. Our heroes beat up the small fry, so the “big guns” show up with their distinctive style. I didn’t notice it initially, but at least one of them has android hands. So he may be a machine like Athena.

Speaking of Athena, I did NOT expect her to show up. Further, I never expected one of her powers to cause folks to cry. Not sure how that relates to alchemy. Mashima-sensei isn’t using alchemy in a fashion I’m familiar with. Initially, I kinda thought he might go the route of Full Metal Alchemist based on Sai’s abilities.

Gold Owl certainly aren’t doing anything (yet) with alchemical ingredients to make potions or the like. Sure, the Fairy Tail mages are called “components”, but at the moment, alchemy just seems like magic in another form. I guess I’m okay with that.

Finally, we get a bit of humor with Natsu punching out the old lady. I would have been like Sting and hesitated. But Natsu was probably right as the old lady may end up being insanely powerful.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In the end, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 129 was a fun chapter. I didn’t expect Athena to show up yet, but I guess we need to move the story forward.
