Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-ohki OVA 5 Episode 06
天地無用! 魎皇鬼 OVA 5 Ep. 6
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
Kenshi’s training continues. He’s now able to defeat the girls on Banjo Island, but still cannot do it quick enough. He’s still no where near good enough to hold his own on Geminar. As such, Seina’s harem takes over the training to get Kenshi to the next level. Further, Tenchi’s harem also joins in the training, including a pregnant Ryoko.
Time passes and Kenshi’s training continues. Ryoko and Aeka have given birth to daughters. Washu declares that Kenshi has now reached a point where he can hold his own on Geminar. Sasami is concerned that Kenshi has gone feral again. As such, Washu sends Ryoko to go fetch Kenshi. Meanwhile, Tokimi has news for Washu regarding the conditions to send Kenshi to Geminar.
Tenchi objects to sending Kenshi over. However, Washu lays out why it has to be done relatively soon as Gaia is about to be revived. Rea is bound and thus cannot resist sending Kenshi to Gaia. As such, Tenchi goes to ponder things. He goes to speak with his dad, who’s not happy about sending his young son away, but understands he has to accept it.
Tenchi tests Kenshi to properly judge his abilities. He then speaks to his grandfather. Finally, Tenchi gives the green light to have Kenshi sent over. A party is thrown with Tennyo and Seina, with harem, joining. After Kenshi goes to bed, Kenshi everyone gathers in his bedroom. Screens allow others from Jurai, Galaxy Police, and Banjo Island to observe.
Kenshi is sent to Geminar, causing Rea’s bonds to release. She breaks down and cries over the loss of her son. Washu reveals they can observe the events from Geminar, including an emergency recall should things go wrong.
Thoughts/Review:
And so Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-ohki OVA 5 Episode 06 comes to an end. Now I want to watch War on Geminar.
The -If- Doujinshi Elements
For those who aren’t aware, Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-ohki creator KAJISHIMA Masaki-sensei has self-published doujin works of his various creations. One of his more recent doujinshi publications was titled -If-, meaning that if Kajishima-sensei were allowed, this is the story he’d tell. The doujinshi is done in a color, storyboard format, and depicts life for Tenchi and his harem as well as Seina and his harem.
As such, it was fun seeing Ryoko and Aeka both give birth to their daughters, as depicted in -If-. I also liked how Ryoko is the first one to get pregnant. I think Noike may be the official head wife, but Ryoko comes off as the actual head wife. They are constantly together, and I loved it. 😍
I don’t remember the -If- doujinshi having a scene of Ryoko having to retrieve a “feral” Kenshi. However, I couldn’t help but laugh at how Ryoko minds the baby from her usual loft position. Then when Washu tasks her with getting Kenshi, Ryoko simply teleports her little girl to the girl’s father, Tenchi. 😂
I rather hope we get an OVA 6 as Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-ohki OVA 5 Episode 06 mostly wrapped up the prequel elements to War on Geminar and only touched on the Tenchi family stuff. I’d like to see OVA 6 actually be slice of life, character and family stuff with Tenchi and his harem, as well as Seina and his harem. But that’s an article for another post.
Prequel to War on Geminar Ends
As mentioned earlier, Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-ohki OVA 5 Episode 06 is mostly about wrapping up the prequel elements to War on Geminar. One question I was asked was why Rea was so nonchalant about sending her son to Geminar until the very end. Apparently, some folks didn’t understand that Rea was involuntarily compelled to do this. Once she complied with the orders to send Kenshi over, the seals/binds that compelled her were released, which is why she broke down at the end.
One interesting element is how Tenchi appeared to have veto power over whether Kenshi got sent or not. Yes, he’s the head of his home, but even his dad and grandfather (who’s actually Yosho) seemed to defer to him. Then again, as the most powerful being in existence, if he put his foot down, it isn’t like anyone could go against him. And his harem would back his decision.
That aside, now that I see how Kenshi was trained for his time in Geminar, I really do want to rewatch War on Geminar. My current schedule is bloody insane at the moment (as I write this, it has been over nine weeks since I had a day off, and I average ~64 hours/week), so I don’t know when I’d get to actually rewatch it, even as a marathon.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
Since I’m so far behind, let me wrap up my review of Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-ohki OVA 5 Episode 06. The episode nicely wraps the prequel elements of Warn on Geminar while at the same time, advancing the elements of Tenchi’s harem family. I’ll write a full review of this series in the near future.
Additional: I neglected to mention, but I LOVED how Ryoko summoned her elementals in training Kenshi.
I also loved seeing the floating onsen external shots.

Not sure why this says it was published June 30 instead of the morning of July 4. Oh well, its finally here and better late than never.
Even though I just read through an entire spoiler, where is the best place to watch these episodes to catch up on OVA 4 & 5?
They were on Crunchyroll. I’m not where I can easily check at the moment, but you might look there for legal means of watching.
We finally reached the end. And Kenshi’s training led to this moment. Unlike those who were hard on Rea. I only focused on how messed up the circumstances were, just so Geminar would have a Defender. I’ve seen this before and even Steven Universe has taught me that it doesn’t matter how important something is. When the burden is placed on an young individual who never asked for things, It leads to potential problems other than the main objective and it can’t always let bygones be bygones. Something like this needs proper resolution and healing, as Kenshi is still a kid in the end. So I expected some blowback to this at some point after Geminar.
God like beings can say this or that, but they can still screw things up.
Besides that it was a good episode.
I’m hoping we get a War on Geminar sequel, that results in Kenshi returning to Earth and there being an episode dealing with the fact that he got sent to Geminar.
There was a sequel to War on Geminar planned right after the first one came out. But sadly it got canceled.
I never knew if it was truly canceled are just put on the back burner since Kajishima-sensei has so many things on his plate.
I remember the time when War on Geminar first came as “saint knight’s tale”. The Tenchi Muyo’s creators wanted to keep a secret that war on Germinar was a sequel to Tenchi Muyo franchise. And they only gave clues and tips around the series until people connected the dots.
And then comes funimation ruining the whole surprise by making the title: Tenchi Muyo War on Germinar.
Also I remember back then how people were complaining that Kenshi was a Gary Stu, so perfect with no flaws and could do anything.
I remember trying to explain to people that Tenshi was forced to undergo massive amounts of training before he was sent to Germinar. Most did not believe until OVA 5 came out and showed how hard Kenshi trained.
I remember those discussions as well. It was much the same with Tenchi’s mother. Kajishima-sensei had stated that her name was Kiyone, but a large group of fans refused to accept this since Tenchi’s mother had a different name in Tenchi Universe. Then when OVA 3 confirmed this, the response was, “Kajishima sucks” (or some such rubbish). Shame, really.
That aside, I’m reminded that I need to rewatch Photon, now that I know it is set on Geminar.
