Negima! Manga Vol 35 Ch 319 Review

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Negima! Manga Vol 35 Ch 319Negi and Fate engage in combat with Fate reckoning Negi’s magic to be reminiscent of the Thousand Master’s.  Negi overcomes Fate’s massive petrification spell, a rain of blades, and a rain of spears to reach Fate. Fate fins this battle much more to his liking than the fight with Quintum.  During one part of the fight, Fate remarks on one of Negi’s moves, citing its use during Negi’s fight with Jack Rakan during the tournament.  Negi is surprised that Fate saw that but smiles and uses a custom made spell that even Jack couldn’t withstand.  Fate praises Negi, who remarks on who much Fate is smiling.  Fate’s answer is that this fight with Negi has been his only desire.  Fate summons a massive stone blade while Negi summons his Ensis Exsequens cold-energy blade and Fate insists Negi show him everything.

Meanwhile, Shirabe is telepathically contacted by Fate and reports that she is returning Asuna to the altar. Ku Fei immediately attacks from one side, blocking it with a tree limb that sprouts from the ground, while Anya attacks from another.  Shirabe is annoyed because there is so little time left but she finds her way to the altar with Asuna blocked by Nodoka and Natsumi.

Thoughts/Review:

Not a whole lot to discuss here as this chapter is the fanservice battle between Fate and Negi.  It is nice to see how far Negi has come since their first meeting in Kyoto when he had to be saved by Eva.  At one point when Fate had summoned all of those petrification spears, Negi didn’t even let Fate finish yacking before he was attacking and thus nullifying Fate’s attack.  Well, that’s why you don’t yack much in a fight, eh?  ^_~

As to Shirabe, a bound Natsumi and Nodoka aren’t going to stand in her way and she’s already shown that she can fend off both Anya and Ku Fei.  However, will they be enough of a hindrance to prevent Shirabe from doing what she has to do?  That remains to be seen.

Hey there! Is this anywhere close to the finish? I was wondering if I should start it anytime soon… Does Akamatsu have some grand plan or is Negima turning into a Bleach sort of shonen which will drag on endlessly?

Akamatsu does indeed have a master plan for his story plot, and has alluded to it on occasion. So there’s a definitive end to the whole thing planned. But it appears that the story still has at least a little ways to go, and as far as I can tell this particular plot arc is not the last one planned.

Yeah…ooops. ^_^;;; Thanks for the catch.

To add to what Junior said, Akamatsu-sensei seems to have had Negima! planned out very well. I’m not saying he had things 100% mapped out, but I’m convinced he knew whom Asuna was from the start for example. Chao and Mars was no coincidence either as far as I can tell.

There’s no way that Negima! won’t end. Akamatsu-sensei isn’t that kind of writer.

I think my favorite part of the entire chapter was Fate countering the lightning form. Not because he did it, but simply because Negi is drawn in that classic upside-down oh-god-what’s-happening pose that was used so many times earlier in the manga. You can’t help but picturing him with the same expression always used, even though it’s not drawn there.
