ラストエグザイル-銀翼のファム-/Last Exile: Ginyoku no Fam
Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing – 04
Fam can’t get the others excited over the prospect of capturing the mysterious Silvius while Gisey and her sisters make dinner. Millia works on being independent and dresses herself in some of Gisey’s clothing before coming to dinner. Gisey and Fam explain to Millia about the how no one really knows what the Silvius is, but Fam is sure it is some impressive battleship. When Dio arrives with a blurry photo of the ship, Gisey is able to draw a rough blueprint of the ship from various angles and make a determination that this must be a reconnaissance ship, designed for speed and doing whatever to avoid combat, though with the likelyhood of hidden weapon platforms.
In Fam’s room, she and Millia make the small bed in Fam’s, tiny, loft apartment and talk about how Dio joined the group six months ago and is weird, though highly skilled. After a small argument where both try to get the other to sleep on the bed, they end up sharing it. When asked, Fam says she’s going after the Silvius because you may as well go after something big and she thinks it will make Millia happy. The next day, Sky Pirates Johann and Fritz return with the location of Silvius, so Fam and Gisey take off with them. Dio readies his Vanship and agrees to let Teddy and Millia go with him, though he asks them not to touch anything in the back seat since that was Luciola’s. After some fancy flying, Dio arrives with passengers at the Sky Pirate rendezvous point.
The Silvius is located and harpoons fired into her, which then deploy large balloons to slow her down. Fam is amazed that the ship is still able to move, but the Sky Pirates quickly drop ink (paint?) bombs that blacken the bridge’s windows. The ship is still able to maneuver and is even shedding the balloons, so Fam deploys large balls to cause loud noise to hinder the ship from hearing what is going on. The Silvius‘s captain, Tatiana Wisla, deploys in her red Vanship and forces Fam and Gisey to flee. Though Fam’s flying is good, Tatiana’s is better though eventually, Fam shakes her after Tatiana apparently allows her to leave.
The other Sky Pirates have been forced to surrender and though Dio comes in to ask Tatiana if he can join her, she ignores him and flies off. Fam decides to take the Silvius from the inside and thanks to Gisey’s superior navigation skills, they make it in deep, but then Gisey realizes her mistake as they near a water door and she understands what the Silvius can do — submerge itself in the Grand Lake below them. However, it is too late and the compartment they are in floods. When Fam comes to, a worried Gisey is looking down on her, but they’ve been captured. Upon learning that they are 15, Tatiana asks them to capture 15 Ades’ warships. When Dio lands and enters with a worried Millia, Fam agrees to Tatiana’s terms.
One of the bad things about this anime is that Fam is supposed to be nearly sixteen, but she looks like she’s twelve. Ditto Gisey. I wish they looked more their age than go for this whatever look. (Is it moe?)
Anyway, the name “Silvius” had me wondering a bit in the last episode, considering the similarity to the name “Silvana,” which was the name of the one, rogue warship in Last Exile. I was thrown off a bit when the Silvius was first shown.
The revelation that the captain of the Silvius is none other than Tatiana Wisla from Last Exile (complete with her red Vanship) and that she is still supported by her friend and former navigator, Alister Agrew, showed me what I had wondered — there is a connection.
Whatever is going on, Dio has to be involved with Tatiana and Alister. I say this because (1) Dio had a photo of the Silvius and knew where to send Johann and Fritz; (2) neither Dio nor Tatiana did anything to indicate their meeting in the sky was a unexpected; and (3) Dio was allowed to land, apparently unchallenged, when the Silvius surfaced again.
I do wonder what Tatiana and Alister want with fifteen Ades’ warships. The Sky Pirates capture them and then apparently scrap them for profit. I’d guess that with Tatiana and Alister also being some of the Last Exile bunch, they are waring with Ades for the right to return, but do they have bodies to fill that many warships with crew?
I like that Millia is working hard to adjust to her new life. She still has much to learn and a ways to go, but she’s coming along. I just wish poor Teddy would come along as well.
I also liked how Gisey is not only a skilled navigator, but also a skilled analyst based on her schematics and educated guesses about the purpose of the Silvius.
So, things got a bit more interesting to me with the introduction of two more characters from Last Exile. Looking forward to more.
At first I thought Silvius, was just a sister ship of Silvana, but after watching the episode, I am convince that she is Silvana, with a hugh addition added to her stren, here is why.
The picture of the Silvius’s bridge is exactly likes Silvana’s, inculding portholes, personel, and equipment.
The battle mast is almost the same except for fewer sound sensors. In fact the superstructure appears to be that same, though it hard to tell form the larger size of the hull.
To confirm if they are the same ship we will need to see Salvius’s gun layout, or missile tube. That or someone coming out and saying she is the same ship.
As to why fifteen ships, it may be the number of ships in an enemy fleet, or the number she her backer need for some plan (you can’t rebuild a ship the size of Silvana without deep pockets, and I think there are a couple of possible backers)
Whatever happen next, I sure all Last Exile fans are breathlessly waiting for the next episode(tomorrow.)
Sadly, I can’t even remember what the Silvana looked like, though now that you mention it, the bridge did feel somewhat familiar to me. I assumed at the time that this was because of Titania and Alister’s return.
I guess another reason I didn’t think the Silvius might be the Silvana is that I guess I didn’t expect the Exile ships to be able to carry capital ships like that back to Earth. ^_^;
Well, I too am looking forward to seeing more (though it won’t be tomorrow for me, sadly).

This shows that the Exile’s initial voyage carried two Anatoray warships with it. It’s been alluded to been making multiple trips since then, so…
You know, I don’t think I read this entire chapter. ^_^; I guess I started and never finished but in my tired state of late, just thought that I had finished. Well, I’ll go and read now. Might clear up a few things.
Oh, I see what happened. This site has merged more than one chapter together but are calling the whole thing “Chapter 1.” So, I did read the first chapter.
