xxxホリック ◆ 戻 chapter 09

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

At school, Doumeki washes his face at the outdoor faucets while Watanuki tells him of his conversation with Yuuko-san. Doumeki asks what they are to do next, but Watanuki doesn’t know since Yuuko-san didn’t tell him.

Himawari-chan shows up, suggesting they have lunch on the roof of the school since the weather is nice. This leads to Watanuki’s normal tirade against Doumeki. Watanuki then tells Himawari-chan that he was able to watch an episode of the TV show she talked about. Doumeki speaks, but before Watanuki can reply, he hears the voice again and feels compelled to answer.

He reports this to Yuuko-san and how nothing else happened the rest of the day. He asks Yuuko-san about the voice, but she turns the question around to him. He has no clue what the voice is, which is why he asked her. All she’ll say is that the request she made of him and Doumeki has not concluded.

Sometime later, Watanuki is walking down the street alone when he hears the voice and turns around.

Back at the shop, Maru and Moro ask if Watanuki will be OK. Yuuko-san says that a tangled thread must be unknotted.

Thoughts/Review:

Again, I notice that there’s no one around in this world except for Yuuko-san, Doumeki, Watanuki, and Himawari-chan. Maru and Moro don’t really count since they are soulless beings designed with a specific purpose.

Assuming this is a dream world, then Yuuko-san’s use of thread and making the Jacob’s Ladder is probably a clue of some sort, combined with her remark on removing the knot from a tangled thread.

That leads me to think of another possibility that could be happening here. During xxxHOLiC when Watanuki started shifting into the dream world(s), it was very difficult to tell when he was in the dream world and when he was in reality.  Indeed, his witnessing Yuuko-san dying was also in a dream world.  CLAMP may be attempting to do remove their own knot, caused by the stupidity of Tsubasa, to untangle their own thread and get things shifted to a proper place.

This chapter really doesn’t give us anything new information wise. Watanuki still hears the voice and still turns to answer it. Whether he sees whatever is calling to him at the end of the chapter is not revealed. I suppose we’ll have to find that out next chapter.

Anyway, we’ll see what the next chapter has in store.
