Akira Saved From Taika Waititi!
A couple of years ago (or so), I did a video on YouTube where the media reassured folks that Taika Waititi was absolutely going to do a live-action version of the classic manga (and anime move adaptation), Akira. If you are bored, you can check that out below.
Sadly, I don’t have the time to make a follow up video as work is so busy. Nevertheless, even though this news is from the end of June 2025, I wanted to mention it just in case anyone missed it.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Brothers no longer has the rights to create a live-action Akira. As such, Kodansha now have the rights back. The article gives the history of the folks attached to the projected. I’d forgotten that he came onto the project in 2017. Seriously, eight years and nothing. BUT, that’s a good thing.
It has been YEARS since I watched the Akira movie. I recently republished an old review, but I need to rewatch the anime movie sometime to see what I think now.
