Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei! – 01

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei! - 01 Miyu comes by Ilya’s place to wake her up so they can perform their early morning classroom duties. With summer here, Ilya, Miyu, Tatsuko, Mimi, Nanaki, and Tsuzuka talk of going to the beach and having fun as Ilya recalls how she and Miyu met. She then has a flash feeling of something she can’t identify. After class, the girls grab ice cream cones and enjoy them in a nearby park. As the girls walk home, they talk of swimsuits and what to wear to the beach. Miyu is deciding on what kind of swimsuit she’d like when a stretch limo pulls up, after which Miyu and Ilya are grabbed. The other girls panic until one remembers that it was Miyu’s family car. In the car, Rin and Luvia tell them they have a job to do.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei! - 01Ilya asks about the cards they’d previously captured, which have been split between Rin and Luvia, though they still fight each other. Arriving at their destination, the group makes their way through the woods. Rin removes a barrier in their path, but she and Luvia get caught in a mud trap, forcing Ilya and Miyu to transform and rescue them. In caverns under the place, Rin sticks the Gaia Needle staff in the ground to fix the ley line; the staff is charged by Ilya and Miyu through Ruby and Sapphire. There’s a magical backlash and Ilya transforms again to save them, somehow having access to the Archer card. Everyone is surprised to see Ilya has split and now has a tanned twin in the Archer outfit.

Thoughts/Review:

Ah, more Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya goodness. ^_^

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei! - 01

Back when I watched the first series, I had planned on reading the manga after Farray had provided a great deal of interesting comments for my episode reviews.  As usual, I never got the time to read it, but since Farray had spoken of changes made between the original manga and the first series, maybe it was better than I haven’t read the manga yet.

This episode had a rather leisurely flow to it, but it never felt slow or boring. I suspect that if I went to the manga, all of the stuff regarding Ilya and her friends at school would not be there. It was clearly done for local color, and it is nicely done, but it does nothing to do with the plot.

I liked how SILVER LINK handled the introductions of all the characters and gave a brief recap of the first series without getting too deep in the plot. As part of this, I loved the references to Rin’s and Luvia’s rivalry and comradeship, which was displayed throughout the episode after they appeared. Even the incident with the destruction of the helicopter at the end of the first series was referenced. ^_^

As to the plot, obviously it is too early to say what is going on here with Ilya suddenly having a tanned twin come from her wearing the Archer gear. I remember in the first series, she had some kind of seal, which was released. It seems like this event is tied to whatever happened with this new girl — something sealed within Ilya.

Considering the mildly ecchi moments early in the episode, I couldn’t help but wonder if tanned Ilya is an attempt to have a new loli fetish girl. After all, you have Ilya with her creamy white skin, so why not have a dark skinned loli cutie?

Finally, while the usual humor remained with Rin’s and Luvia’s bickering, I have to say that the transformation joke was the best. I’ve frequently remarked on how I dislike the mahou shoujo henshin sequence, whereby the magic girl has a lengthy scene showing them transforming from normal girl to magic girl. For this episode, Ilya and Miyu share that moment, but when they go to rescue Rin and Luvia, Rin goes off on them for wasting time doing that instead of hurrying up and rescuing them. *lol*  Hat’s off to you, SILVER LINK. ^_^

So while there wasn’t too much happening, this episode was a nice one to get people back into the franchise and get things started. I’m looking forward to more goodness in the coming weeks.

Haha, I’ve the manga a while back. This arc is better than the last

Oh, I’m here. I actually keep watching your blog and would really like to post my two cents about UQH every week, but I am unfortunately very busy to be honest. Germany won the World Cup (woohoo) after a tough month, then there was the Evolution Championship series in Las Vegas last week (Rin’s voice actress Kana Ueda, who also voices a character from Blazblue, showed up, yay ^_^) and of course I still have to study (exams nonstop for the next month). Not to mention I still have lots of anime and other series to watch to catch up. Oh well…

Anyway, I guess Silver Link couldn’t go with the “Mistakenly-kiss-Miyu-because-Illya-thought-it’s-her-brother” joke again, since they already used it last season, but as I’ve said, that was the actual beginning of 2wei.

The first episode seems to take it quite slow, as the end of it is also the end of chapter 1 and they put in some filler material, but I don’t mind that. The first chapter quickly rushed to the plot in the manga and I think developing the characters by giving them more screen time is not such a bad idea. Episode 2 portrays chapter 2 and 3, but I’ll get to that in the next review. What I’m worried about though is the fact that 2wei is 5 volumes long. The first season (which I’ll call E1ns, for consistency and because it’s shorter than “first season”) was only two volumes long. I suspect they will end the anime at around chapter 16 or so and if there are enough sales, they will finish 2wei in another cours.

Well, there isn’t really much happening here, so there isn’t much I have to say. The short summary also happened in the manga, though it only took a page. Some more detail, Leysritt (as she is of a German family) speaks German (okay, it was only “good morning”, but whatever).

I’m not sure why, but Type-Moon apparently don’t want to hire a voice actor for Grand Master Zelretch yet, all his lines were given to Waver/Lord El-Melloi II. The cave Rin, Luvia Miyu and Illya visit also exists in Fate/stay night and the position of it here in Prisma Illya is the same as it is in the Visual Novel (under the Ryuudou Temple). Again, the shield Illya used is Archer’s greatest defense “Rho Aias”. Not sure why she doesn’t reveal its name.

Hint: Archer card. Archer, who is actually a tanned (smart and super awesome) version of our protagonist.

E1ns is the initial story to introduce the story’s characters and the setting. Basically it mimics the first route of the FSN VN, Fate . The second route, Unlimited Blade Works, focuses a lot more on the protagonist, Shirou, and his background and so does 2wei (Iri and other characters already hinted at Illya’s hidden power, unfortunately the foreshadowing was cut out, which is why you should have at least read the first manga, Astro :p). I will leave out details though, since you didn’t play the second route (and watching the movie wouldn’t really help). There are also a lot more fights in 2wei, like in UBW, but as I’ve said last year, the fanservice was taken up to the next level, which you’ll probably notice even more in the next episode.

WOO!HOO! Glad you are here as you had such great info on the Fate/stay night franchise. ^_^ (And I totally understand the busy stuff as I’m often swamped with work, and I’ll get busier if I have to move to NJ in 5-6 months.)

I agree. Poorly handled filler can be boring, but for this first episode, it was done properly in setting the table and relationships between all of the characters.

Episode 2 portrays chapter 2 and 3, but I’ll get to that in the next review. What I’m worried about though is the fact that 2wei is 5 volumes long. I haven’t even looked to see how many episodes were scheduled for 2wei. However, now that you mention it, if it is only 12 episodes scheduled, I’d hope that Silver Link wouldn’t try to abbreviate things to squeeze everything in, especially after the leisurely first episode.

I recognized the stairs to the temple, but I couldn’t remember what they did underground in FSN. Was that were Sakura went nuts (in the anime)?

Hint: Archer card. Archer, who is actually a tanned (smart and super awesome) version of our protagonist.

Oh yeah, I forgot that Archer is a tanned guy. Actually, that suggests that this loli-Ilya-Archer character is the personification of the card (well, you’d know whether that was true or not, but that’s what it suggests to me at this point).

…unfortunately the foreshadowing was cut out, which is why you should have at least read the first manga, Astro

OK, I’ll have to try to do that.

Thanks for all info. ^_^ Again, glad to see you are around for this series. ^_^

Five blurays were confirmed for 2wei with two episodes per disc, which means 2wei is again ten episodes long. I really hope Silver Link will stop midway because otherwise this means they’ll rush through the plot, which would be a shame.

Honestly, I didn’t even remember the cave was shown in the anime because that part wasn’t in the Visual Novel, lol. All I remember is Studio DEEN’s Latex Sakura and that was awful.

It is weird that none of the usual sites display the episode count.

That’s all I could think of as well. *lol*
