AstroNerdBoy Negima! One-shot Look-see (SPOILERS!)
Hey gang! The Negima! one-shot chapter has been released in Japan. However, in typical Japanese fashion, it is NOT in the normal Weekly Shounen Magazine that was published. Instead, you had to buy the sealed, special edition Weekly Shounen Magazine. (I recall a gag in Hayate the Combat Butler where it was said that Nagi ranted about accidentally buying a regular edition of a manga magazine instead of the special edition version. So I guess this happens in Japan as a means of getting more money from the otaku.)
That said, while no raw files have appeared and Crunchyroll isn’t simulpubbing it (nor the School Rumble one-shot), Japanese fans have posted some thoughts on the 8 pages one-shot. I’m sharing some of their images. First is from Beatarai.
The final one is from Hatena (NSFW site as they review hentai stuff).
If any of you find a raw, be sure to let me know. Granted, this isn’t a chapter that’s worth much since it is only fanservice crap. It is apparently a swimsuit contest with Negi as the prize.
Also, if anyone sees anything for School Rumble, let me know. ^_^

It’s truly disappointing how Akamatsu has come to consistently depict all of 3-A but Asuna (and Evangeline, his precious pet character) as petty child abusers of someone who’s always done his best for them.
I don’t mind the fanservice, that’s always been part and parcel of Negima, I’m hardly a scandalized puritan, and it’d feel weird if it didn’t have it by this point, but tying Negi up and gagging him? Wasn’t the Sports Festival enough, Akamatsu? Is this how you want Ala Alba and 3-A to be remembered by your public, as either villains or petty bullies?
It doesn’t even make sense in-universe. This is happening out in the open, where are the rest of the Mahora teachers?
We could have seen so much of these characters, as growing adventurers doing incredible and awesome things, strong, empowered female characters in a shounen manga. Instead, we basically are told all those things happened off panel, but whenever we actually see these characters again, they are either threatening the new litter of Akamatsu’s pet characters, or doing… this…
I just feel bitter and disappointed on this man once again. He’s reduced the whole cast of Negima to either villains, accesories of UQ Holder, bad jokes, or completely forgotten relics (Kotaro, Negi’s best friend, who’s that?) This time he doesn’t even have the excuse of outside interference, since I doubt anyone put a gun on his temple and told him “You have to waste these pages with these characters acting this way”. That’s what they are for him now. It’s a disgrace.
Where the girls adults, I’d agree with you. However, seeing as how the girls in the class are junior high school girls and highly immature mentally, it makes sense to me.
But I understand how you feel.
Most junior high school girls who are highly immature mentally still won’t tie up and gag 10 year-old children in public. That’s downright sociopathic, and even if it’s done for humor, it’s so misplaced and cruel I just can’t find it funny.
Again, the worst problem is Akamatsu just keeps refusing to ever show 3-A actually doing anything heroic and awesome anymore.

I never found it funny, but it is typical Akamatsu-sensei humor going back to before Negima. So I guess that’s partly why I blow it off. It doesn’t trigger me like some stuff does.
So far all of the stories with class 3-A seems to bully Negi, hijinks, sneezing with fan service. Fan service is what it is, and almost has this every chapter. It was nice to see other classmates once again, but I agree, have them do something other than repetitive new twist on fan service hijinks.
Then I realize its filler material until the next arc is started or just to keep Negima interest active. Its nice to go back, but that part I know already.
If showing the class again, then have a short arc where the class abilities are again shown, for its too long for a one-shot.
I’m more curious on what happened after the official end of Negima. More about Negi and his history with the tower and MotB, and more on Eva’s starting UQ… its basics like how did Karin and Kirie and the other holders get involved or become associated with Eva.
Akamatsu has enough material for Negima oneshots with all the unexplained incidents from the final class roster, from Negi meeting Ayaka’s uncle to Satomi meeting Kurt Godel, the story of Sakurako’s Pactio and the Christmas party, and so on. Not to mention the class trip to India.
IIRC there was an audio drama with the Ariadne Cadets visiting Mahora, too. Why not to adapt that? Or at least a couple of Ala Rubra stories. Something from Mana’s past.
Any of that would be more interesting to see than more variants on ‘Negi is bullied, sneezes, strips everyone’.
I’m guessing that Akamatsu-sensei went the fanservice route ’cause it is the easiest thing to do.
If UQ Holder can hang on, we might get some of that info in future chapters. Might.
Weekly Shonen didn’t give Negima and School Rumble a good sized slot. So I can let this fan service pass.
One-shots are usually pretty small, as I understand it. I don’t think School Rumble has a lot of fanservice, based on the one page I saw.

I don’t see pictures or descriptions there. Just a couple of links, one to Weekly Shounen Magazine and one to a service that will buy and ship stuff out of Japan if the Japanese don’t want to sell to gaijin.
ok…..Im just catching up to the news of this one shot but it really is just fanservice crap. I thought we would get some insight in terms of character development for yet to be featured UQ holder negima chraacters [like konoka and setsuna or maybe even chao spinoff ?hm…].
Speaking of spinoffs/oneshots , if UQ holder doesnt answer the loose ends, I think a 1000 master magical world prequel short series would be great. we never got to know what happened to Arika and the mystery of Nagi’s master Zeke was it? never was properly solved outside of the revelation of his allegiance to the Mage of Beginning
Sadly, no one scanlated the extra chapter. School Rumble got a poor scanlation, but it got one.
I rather doubt we find anything else out about Arika. She’s felt like a retcon from the start, mainly because until the Magic World arc, neither Negi nor anyone else ever said a peep about her. If you look to hard at the timeline, things start falling apart.
As to Zecht, the connection with MotB and him may allow for him to get more exploration, but we’ll see.

Awesome! Thanks for the share. Shame there aren’t any translations for Negima, not that there’s much there. And there was a School Rumble translation, but not the greatest.
Saw someone mention this chapter on the UQH sub-Reddit. Was this chapter ever properly scanned? I don’t care if it’s raw or translated, so long as decent higher-res scans exist.
When I get home next month, I’ll have to check to see if I downloaded something.
Sorry for comment on your two years old post….. but I just surprised how at this time nobody mention that little Chisame cameo in the corner of the last page, even the writer from beatarai (picture source) also notice it.
So this one shot does give us final hint before UQ reveal after all.

Even in the last page of the final chapter, her artifact literally stand in the middle of the others and nobody noticed it at that time too.

I mean, the whole thing is so predictable one already knows exactly what’s going on and the overall of what the characters must be saying, which is also sad on its own, but still…
