Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:

Yanagi-sensei makes herself known to Nasa and Tsukasa. When Tsukasa learns that she came with male teacher Taniguchi-sensei, she has Nasa and herself beat a hasty retreat. Tsukasa has to explain to Nasa that Taniguchi-sensei clearly likes Yanagi-sensei since his story of winning tickets to the amusement park doesn’t ring true. Nasa is shocked by this, but then realizes that Yanagi-sensei doesn’t know Taniguchi-sensei likes her.

Nasa and Tsukasa head to the next ride. After they get in line, they observe Taniguchi-sensei and Yanagi-sensei ahead of them in the line. They can tell the two teachers like each other, but Taniguchi-sensei has a lot of work to do lest he be put into the friend zone. Taniguchi-sensei reaches his out his hand for Yanagi-sensei’s hand, but fails to go all the way.

Because of the type of ride they are going on, Tsukasa feels Taniguchi-sensei has a chance. They are shocked when Yanagi-sensei asks to hold Taniguchi-sensei’s hand as she’s afraid. Nasa feels Taniguchi-sensei has a chance to score points, telling Tsukasa some of these things. These kinds of events get Tsukasa excited.

Thoughts/Review:

Hata-sensei decides to split the romantic focus in Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 56. And it works pretty well.

Sensei Love

I get the feeling that Hata-sensei decided to explore a kind of “what if” scenario in Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 56. In Hayate the Combat Butler, the male teacher in the series was seriously in love with the female teacher. She was oblivious to his feelings, and he was terrible at making his feelings known. That series ended without resolving whether the two teachers got together or not.

For Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 56, Hata-sensei takes that scenario from Hayate the Combat Butler, and brings it over. So Taniguchi-sensei is the nice guy male teacher and Yanagi-sensei is the oblivious female teacher. The difference is that Yanagi-sensei isn’t a lazy bum, looking for an easy time. She’s just the opposite, which is a nice change.

Since the chapter ended on a cliff hanger, I guess I’ll have to wait until the next chapter to see how this gets resolved.

Parodies and References

As before, Hata-sensei packs Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 56 with parody elements and references. And as before, I only got a few obvious ones. If you know what I’ve missed, let me know.

That said, there was the obvious parody reference to One Piece in the form of the ride featured in the chapter.

The element that I found amusing was the imaginary bits where Tsukasa and Nasa became soccer commentators as they observed the two teachers.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In the end, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 56 is a fun chapter. Hata-sensei decides to bring in two teachers and explore their romance while allowing Nasa and Tsukasa to be mere observers.
