SPOILER Summary/Synopsis

Ushiwakamaru and Benkei report to Gilgamesh about the difficulties maintaining the wall defenses. Ritsuka and company respond to a summons by Gilgamesh. He dispatches them to Kutha to retrieve the Tablet of Destinies. They return home, where Ushiwakamaru wishes she could join, but her duties prevent it. That night, she joins Ritsuka on the roof, where they chat and become good friends.

Ritsuka, Mash, Merlin, and Ana make their way into Ishtar’s territory, where they find the destruction she’s causes to grazing lands. She slays Demonic Beasts, but then takes the sheepherder’s gems as payment.  Merlin explains that the Ishtar they see is actually a human girl who’s been possessed by Ishtar. This form of Ishtar is whom the priestess of Uruk summoned. The merger caused Ishtar’s personality to change.

The party arrives in the now ghost town of Kutha, where no Demonic Beasts will enter. They split up to find the tablet. Ritsuka suddenly finds himself in the underworld, where the dead attack. He’s saved by the old man from the ally, who has a message for Merlin. Ritsuka awakens to find his comrades worried about him. Somehow, he has the tablet they sought. He relays the message to Merlin.

Ishtar arrives, unhappy about them talking to the ranchers and such. She attacks, easily overcoming Mash and avoiding counterattacks by Merlin and Ana. However, Ritsuka springs a trap that allows Ana to get her to the ground. The sun sets, and Ishtar falls asleep. She awakens to find herself captive. Ishtar gives them some info, but the dead arise and attack. To Ishtar’s surprise, she’s freed by Ritsuka. As such, she attacks the undead. As the group flees, Ishtar’s hair becomes blonde, revealing she may not be Ishtar.

Thoughts/Review

And so we have the advancement of the oddness of Ishtar displayed in Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia 06. But it was a very enjoyable episode.

Ushiwakamaru

In the Fate/Grand Order game, Ushiwakamaru is one of the few 3-star Servants I use from time to time. As such, I enjoy seeing her in Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia 06. And I know we’ll get to see more of her.

Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia 06

What I don’t get is why Ushiwakamaru seems so interested in Ritsuka. It almost comes off as a romantic interest, yet the dialog is about mutual admiration and friendship. But from a story perspective, I don’t see why Ushiwakamaru would be so interested in a Master who’s not her Master.

Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia 06

Without spoiling anything, I do know that the plot demands Ushiwakamaru get more love and focus. But from a story perspective, it doesn’t feel natural, even though I like Ushiwakamaru.

Ishtar

Although we get more information about Ishtar in Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia 06, we didn’t get what I wanted. I don’t know if the game explained this in detail (I don’t think it did), but I want to know more about why Ishtar looks like Rin from Fate/stay night (and other Fate titles). The episode mentions Ishtar possesses a human girl. So clearly, Ishtar must have possessed Rin. But why did Rin allow this? That’s what I hope gets explored.

Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia 06

As to blonde Ishtar, I do know stuff from playing the game. But I mostly skipped this stuff just to get on when things. So I do look forward to learning more about this part of the story.

Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia 06

Finally, I did enjoy the brief battle between Ishtar and Ritsuka’s party. I like how CloverWorks are being judicious with battle sequences to try to make them always look good.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In the end, Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia 06 helps push things forward plot-wise, while setting the table for some future elements. I really enjoyed the episode.

This is a pitfall carried over from the game. Being intended as a bland slate of a character for anyone to self insert with (never mind that players should be able to identify with any well written, sympathetic character even if they have a marked personality of their own, but most otakus are apparently unable of that), there’s no real reason why Servants all feel attracted towards this character with no traits of his own save the most generic heroism and niceness.

Servants just fall for Ritsuka “because reasons.”

“But why did Rin allow this? That’s what I hope gets explored.”

The game never explores this either. We don’t ever get, for instance, flashbacks on the moments Pseudo Servants like Rin/Ishtar, Luvia/Astraea or Jinako/Ganesha get posessed. We just get to see the results of the posessions.

Hahaha! Well, I do know from playing the game (despite mostly skipping the story) that Ushiwakamaru has a role in the story. So I figure they are giving her more air time to milk that future story element.

I got that impression. I would love for the anime to go ahead and touch on this to show why Rin would allow it. But that probably won’t happen. Game-wise, it is a cheap way to get popular characters into the game as Servants.
