Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:

Tsukasa finds herself turned on by Nasa’s performing physical labor, something he normally doesn’t do. After he finishes his work, Tsukasa has him head to the bathhouse first. Nasa agrees. While soaking in the tub, he thinks about how cute Tsukasa looked. After his bath, Nasa plots how to kiss his wife. As she pours him some tea, Nasa compliments Tsukasa. They kiss and she tells him she thought he looked good doing physical labor. This leads to more “flirting”.

The next day, Aya is happy to see the small pond Nasa built and decorated. Tsukasa suggests putting something into the pond since there’s nothing to find upon draining it. Aya requests piranhas or even an alligator. Tsukasa and Kaname ignore her and ponder goldfish or medaka (rice fish).

Nasa tosses in a stone block, with text showing that he and Tsukasa lived here. That way in future, if the pond is drained, someone will learn something about the previous residents of the place.

Thoughts/Review:

Plot is completely forgotten in Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 122 in favor of continuing the fluff pond-building story. Or was it forgotten?

“Flirting”

The majority of Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 122 was dedicated to Tsukasa being turned on by Nasa doing physical labor, and Nasa being turned on at seeing Tsukasa blushing. This in and of itself has nothing for me to comment on.

Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 122

That said, Hata-sensei ended this segment of the chapter, where we see Nasa and Tsukasa snogging, by remarking that the two flirted for a long time. In this case, flirting can be seen as a euphemism for Nasa and Tsukasa doing what young married couples do–engage in “quality time”. Because this manga is published in a shounen magazine, older readers can read that euphemism into the text, but younger readers will just take it at face value.

What frustrates me is that there are so many in fandom who seem upset that Hata-sensei won’t come out and actually say Nasa and Tsukasa are engaged in sexual coupling. Hata-sensei isn’t going to turn this series into some kind of hentai title. And since Tonikaku Cawaii: Fly Me to the Moon is a shounen title, I’m not sure why these folks expect something more adult?

Plot Flag?

Hata-sensei is notorious for planting plot flags within moments of comedy or fluff. As such, it is possible we have such a moment in Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 122. That moment came when Nasa tossed his stone block with the text about Tsukasa and himself into the pond. Since the Kaguya-hime story is about Kaguya returning to the moon, and the people of Earth forgetting her, it is possible that Hata-sensei will use this stone as a means of allowing Nasa to remember, assuming Tsukasa disappears.

We’ll see what happens. But in the meantime, I wanted to make note of this minor moment in the chapter.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In the end, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 122 was an enjoyable chapter, allowing Tsukasa and Nasa to be romantic. And it appears to have wrapped up the mini story of Aya wanting a pond.
