Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Manga Returns

It has been nearly a year and a half since I first cracked open the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga from Viz. I have a strong dislike for Viz, but when I feel it is warranted, I will support their releases. And such was the case with the Frieren manga. I have all of the volumes Viz has published in my collection. And I would read the new chapters as they came out.

However, at the beginning of this year, it was announced that the manga series would go on hiatus. As I recall, there had been periods where a chapter was not published. As is normal for Japan, no explanations were given. One of the general thoughts amongst fandom was that either story author Yamada-sensei or artist Abe-sensei had some medical issue. Another theory was that Yamada-sensei was heavily involved in the new season of the anime’s production.

Either way, I’m not going to lie when I say that I missed the manga. Chapter 140 ended with the ancient and immortal elf mage Serie leading a formally dressed party of powerful mages (and one cleric) to a party, where she may well get assassinated. Naturally, if things ended there, it would be a nightmare of a cliffhanger.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Manga Returns!

Screen Rant broke the story that Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End would come off its manga hiatus. Apparently, Viz listed chapter 141 for release on July 2, 2025. Viz simulpubs the manga in English when it is released in Japan. The only way they could do this is if Shogakukan let Viz know so Viz could get the chapter translated in time.

Obviously, there could have been a mistake on the part of Viz. But two plus days later, there’s been no correction of the original story. Thus I’m pretty hyped to read the manga again!

Now that the series is returning, I decided that I will chapter blog the series. I had thought to just volume blog stuff (and I still want to do that, depending on time). But now, I can’t see any reason to not chapter blog the series and speculate in real time what might be. I’m looking forward to it!
