Why I Rage-Quit Fate/Grand Order
Hey everybody! I’d been wanting to make this video for quite some time, since it has been over a year since I rage-quit Fate/Grand Order. It really kinda sucked to quit, not only because I used the money from the True Tenchi Muyo! novels to whale out on the game for a short time, but also because I like the Fate franchise. The lore and storytelling can be quite good at times.
Had it not been for the streaming success I was having with Fate/Grand Order, I probably would have quit the game even sooner. And you can watch the video below to document all of the reasons why I rage-quit (that I could remember).
Maybe one day, we’ll get a true hero collector Fate game, whereby I can actually collect all of the Servants and build them up. Unfortunately, I can’t see that happening until Fate/Grand Order dies, and Delightworks are desperate to not have that happen, even though their revenues are going down big time. (Which is why they find ways to continue to release waifu characters in the gacha for the otaku to whale out on to stave off death for another quarter.)
I rage quit Fire Emblem Heroes a few years ago after blowing a bunch of orbs on an event and getting nothing. Thankfully I never spent a dime on the game but I’ve recently come back to the game and still haven’t spent anything but the temptation has been there. Gacha definitely preys on people with addiction problems or who just have loose purse strings. I can’t say I’ve ever played FGO as I don’t really care all that much for the Fate franchise outside of character designs (like Nero), and even the FSN VN was okay but nowhere near as amazing as people would have you believe. Gacha really is just gambling at the end of the day, and it’s very easy to fall into the trap if you like the source material that much. I do hope in a few years the gacha craze has died down.
I still have never done the VN, and at this point, I doubt I ever will. But I do like the Fate story and franchise. I think the lore is very interesting.
I suspect it won’t short of laws stopping it. Genshin Impact proved that gacha games could cross into the PC market, and I think a lot of companies would love to incorporate some sort of gacha into all games to increase revenues.
Part of the problem I have with the VN is that you’re forced to do the routes in order, and Saber’s route (which is also the first) is by far the least interesting, more or less playing out how a typical anime would. The story can be interesting but Saber and Shirou are pretty boring to me, it’s the other characters that make Fate interesting. With that said, Fate is very much about fanservice in both senses of the word. Not a bad thing, mind you. As long as it’s tasteful. But that is how gachas sell themselves.
I’ll admit, I liked Saber (Artoria) a lot when I first watched the original Fate/stay night anime. And she was my first NP5 SSR Servant in FGO.
You remind me, I need to look for Fate Grand Carnival.
There’s nothing really wrong with Saber on her own, but Rin and Sakura are far more interesting characters, not to mention their routes are substantially better written. You should watch the Unlimited Blade Works anime (not the movie, the anime), it’s incredibly well done. And it basically hits all the notes of the VN. …Except for the obvious.
I did watch/blog UBW. It was amazing. I haven’t watched the movies though.
There’s really not much point in watching the UBW movie. I’ve heard that the Heaven’s Feel movie(s) are good and actually don’t uh, skip the naughty stuff the way the anime do. It’s a very dark route so it really depends on whether or not you’re up for something like that.
It was the Heaven’s Feel movies that I need to watch. Sorry for the confusion I caused. π
Not sure if you ever watched Medabots, but I found an artist who drew some Fate servants as Medabots. If you don’t know, Medabots was a series about kids battling 2 foot tall robots. It was a fun show, and I think some of these designs are really neat.

Never heard of the show, but as you say, the designs are neat. Thanks for the share!
