Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 137 Manga Review
フェアリーテイル 100年クエスト
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
Elefseria continues his narrative, recalling Duke’s reveal of the magically based, alchemically created android, Athena. She receives her orders to fight dragons, which she accomplishes. However, in one fight against low-level dragons, Athena destroys an entire town. This horrifies Elefseria, but Athena tells him no one said she couldn’t do it. Further, putting this restriction on her means she won’t be able to efficiently kill dragons.
Elefseria goes to Duke to improve Athena, but he discovers Duke died in an accident. As such, Elefseria decided to seal Athena away until another alchemist could be found. Unfortunately, Elefseria battle with Dogramag caused him to lose his memory of where he sealed her away.
The damaged Athena rises, revealing that she broke the seal herself. She agrees that it was the right decision at the time. However, with Duke dead and Elefseria not an option, Athena set out on her own to discover emotions. Without trying, she found herself the head of a magic cult known as Rebellious.
The other Duke arrived, offering to help her find emotions. Athena says that calling the other Duke fake is incorrect even if he isn’t the original Duke. Instead, Duke is a creation of alchemy, a concept given form. Further, the Gold Owl guild is in fact an alchemist, namely the metal dragon god, Viernes. This is because Viernes no longer has a physical body, but only lives as a concept.
Thoughts/Review:
I gotta give it to Mashima-sensei. At times, he throws a wicked curve ball that defies logic, yet somehow works. Such is the case with Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 137. Somehow, probably through alchemy, the iron dragon god became a concept for the alchemy guild, Gold Owl. Since we already know that many of the people in said guild are called “puppets”, I suppose it is safe to presume that everyone in the guild is simply a concept brought to life. That’s wild.
I hope the next chapter reveals what happened to Viernes original body. In addition, I’m hoping we get some reveals as to how this all came to be. That said, if everyone in Gold Owl is a concept brought to life, then are they also by extension of Viernes? We’ve already seen other so-called dragon gods have other entities represent various aspects of the original.
As to Athena, not sure how she’s functioning with a big hole in her midsection. Do they have anyone who can repair such damage? Or is this damage a way of nerfing her so that she no longer can do what she once did? I kinda suspect that.
Regardless, we get a bit of retconning to cover for why Elefseria forgot where Athena was. 🤷♂️
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
In the end, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 137 went in an unexpected direction, but I’m okay with it.
