25 Anime Questions Answered
When anime fan Chun asked 25 anime questions on Twitter, I thought I’d do a post to answer them. So without further ado…
Note: questions posted as Chun posted them on Twitter.
1. anime you want to watch next.
Well, I really want to rewatch Photon: The Idiot Adventures. (Buy it on Amazon.com) Now that I know it is set in the past on Geminar (Tenchi Muyo! War on Geminar), and thus part of the canon Tenchi Muyo! anime franchise, I’m rather keen watch and review the series.
2. anime you’re ashamed of enjoying it.
Whenever I see a question like this, the only possible answer would have to be some super ecchi title, right? And by super ecchi title, I’m talking near hentai. Otherwise, there would be no title that I would be ashamed of enjoying. If the story of an anime is rather well done to the point I enjoy it, I’m probably not ashamed of enjoying it.
But if pressed just to pick, I’d probably go with the Prisma Illya part of the Fate/stay night franchise. It is the insane, loli ecchi content that really pushed the edge for me. š The story is rather good though.
3. one underrated anime & one overrated anime.
Heh. The overrated anime is easy for me — The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Heck, I ranted about this series quite a bit in my early blogging days. The reason I say this anime is overrated is because it’s supposed brilliance is due to the fact it was aired in random order.
For the underrated anime, I’m not sure there. There are anime titles that I’ve enjoyed that others have not. For example, I love Dirty Pair. But in terms of where folks rate it, I don’t think they are wrong. Ditto Those Who Hunt Elves. So I’m just going to pull something out of the air and say Sweetness & Lightning. (I need to finish the manga some day.)
4. saddest anime death.
Man, this one was easy — Ushio-chan from Clannad ~After Story~. Pretty much, every Key anime adaptation has one, but Ushio-chan was the worst for me.
5. favourite quote from any anime characters.
This one is easy as well. “Ecchi nano ha (wa) ikenai to omoimasu!” This is Mahoro’s catch phrase from Mahoromatic: Automatic Maiden. I think it has been translated as “I think dirty thoughts are bad”, but the accurate translation is “I think perverted (things) are inappropriate!”
6. anime with best soudtrack.
This is another easy one — Inuyasha. Of all anime titles, I’ve like more of the OP/ED songs from Inuyasha. And I bought the Original Soundtrack, which contains all of the incidental music from the series. Love that. (As an aside, Yashahime isn’t doing bad on the music front.)
7. favourite seiyuu (voice actor)
Another easy one for me — HAYASHIBARA Megumi. She’s done the voice of so many iconic characters. Faye Valentine (Cowboy Bebop), AYANAMI Rei (Neon Genesis Evangelion), URASHIMA Hakura (Love Hina), Musashi (Pokemon, though she’s done other voices for that franchise), female Ranma (Ranma 1/2), Lime (Saber Marionette J), and tons of other things. But for me, my favorite character Megumi-san voices is Lina Inverse from The Slayers.
8. saddest anime scene.
To quote Neon Taster, “Every scene from the second cour of Clannad ~After Story~.” Big facts, for the most part.
9. best ending to an anime.
Clannad ~After Story~. Seriously, after the anime rips you in half, it goes with the true end of the visual novel. And that is the best ending ever!
10. most recent anime you watched.
Well, if you read my blog, you know the answer to that. But I did just watch an episode of Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon.
11. favourite supporting character
Xellos from The Slayers franchise.
12. your current anime crush.
I don’t have one. But back in the day, I did have a 2D crush on Yuri from Dirty Pair.
13. favourite canon couple.
I thought about this a bit. At the end of the day, I picked Kaoru and Aoi from Ai Yori Aoshi.
14. your most hated anime character.
SUZUMIYA Haruhi from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.
15. best anime antagonist.
Well, just for the comedic elements, NANBARA Kotaro from Hand Maid May.
16. favourite anime movie.
Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro. Love this movie.
17. anime you wish never ended.
I’ll pick the anime franchise that will never end — Lupin III.
18. your highest rated anime and lowest rated anime.
Highest: Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-ohki. Lowest: To many to name.
19. favourite studio ghibli work.
NausicaƤ of the Valley of the Wind. Shame the whole manga won’t ever get adapted though.
20. recommend an anime that people may have not seen.
Hmmmm…based on fandom of the canon Tenchi Muyo! franchise, I’m going to go with Tenchi Muyo! War on Geminar. Now that I think about it, this could have been my underrated choice.
21. favourite anime genre.
It used to be the harem, romantic comedy genre, like Love Hina. Today, I don’t have a favorite genre per se. I tend to just watch what I’m aware of .
22. anime that you want another season.
Without a doubt, Full Metal Panic. Seriously, when Full Metal Panic: Invisible Victory aired, I really thought that we’d see the rest of the light novels adapted to the end. But that never happened, and it needs to.
23. anime you wished was real.
I suppose something from the Fate/stay night franchise, but only if I can have ALL of the Servants (regardless of series) as my personal army! š
24. favourite plot twist in anime.
I can’t say it is my “favorite” plot twist, but the one that sticks out in my mind is the plot twist at the end of Angel Beats. I’m not even going to spoil it, but Angel Beats is adapted from a Key! game so…š
25. scariest anime you’ve seen.
None. I’ve watched only a very few horror anime titles, and none were scary per se. I did some looking online, and titles others have called scary are not titles I have watched.
So there you have it. Feel free to give your own answers in the comment section below.
Going to be thinking about some of these a long time, thaaaanks. (^_~)
Thought you might be amused by my weird answer for #2, because I think the occasional gratuitous ecchi is actually one of its mildest sins: Code Geass.
~ Shamefully hole-y plot that swims in deus ex machina and contrived coincidences.
~ Frequent facesmacks because sometimes dumb tropes are so over-the-top, I half-wonder if it’s actually a genre deconstruction a la mahou shoujo’s Puella Magi Madoka Magica or Beat-to-Death Angel Dokuro-chan.
~ It has my #14 (most hated character ever – Nina Einstein is almost never on screen more than ten seconds without making my nerves crawl).
~ Worst of all, historical fantasy that lays it on THICK… the basis for the plot is WW2 except Japan is a saintly heroic martyr attacked out of nowhere by “Britannia” who wants their “Sakuradite” (proxy for oil).
And yet, I still find it engaging enough to watch and enjoy more than cringe, though that seems to diminish with each rewatch. Go figure. (^_^)Ā°
Hahaha! You’re welcome.
I’ve never watched Code Geass. It is one of those, “I should watch it” titles.
Anyway, thanks as always for the comments!
