Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 214
Tonikaku Kawaii Fly Me to the Moon 214
トニカクカワイイ 214
Spoiler Summary/Synopsis:
Tsukasa and Nasa begin their trip to the Yuzaki gravesite. Tsukasa feels that since it is the two of them, it is pretty much a date. As such, she poses a hypothetical to her husband. If they weren’t married and in the middle of a romantic comedy, what kind of date would he take her on. After Tsukasa lays the scenario on thick, Nasa says that he’d take Tsukasa to Starbucks. This catches Tsukasa’s interest as Nasa explains that drinking frappuccinos together is a “youth” thing.
Tsukasa ponders this for a moment and concurs. After they get their Starbucks order, the two sit in a nearby park. Nasa loves seeing Tsukasa’s happy face at drinking her beverage. She’s suspicious her husband thinks of her as someone simple because an iced coffee made them happy. Nasa assures her this is not the case. Instead, Nasa says he wants to know more about her 1400 year life.
Tsukasa doesn’t mind telling him, but she’s concerned that he’ll start viewing her as 1400 years old rather than a 16 year old girl who’s kept that age for a long time. He denies it, so she decides to test him. As such, she tells him that the name “Tokyo” doesn’t feel correct. Nasa asks if “Edo” feels better. Tsukasa takes offense at this, believing her husband is seeing her as an old woman.
She explains that to her, Edo just means of part of what is known as Tokyo today. For her, the Tokyo area is the Land of Musashi. This surprised Nasa, causing Tsukasa to feel he’s seeing her as old again.
Thoughts/Review:
Kind of an interesting date story in Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 214. For some reason, this chapter felt the most “real” of any romantic moments Tsukasa and Nasa have had. That’s not to say the other moments weren’t realistic. However, Hata-sensei lays out a story where the male and female leads are just going on a simple date. The wife poses a situation to see what her husband will do. In my experience, that’s something a girl would do.
Then you get the moments where Tsukasa puts words into Nasa’s mouth. First, Nasa pays her a compliment, which she turns into a “what you really think” moment. Man, girls are like that in real life. Nasa merely remarked on how he enjoyed seeing Tsukasa happy. He wasn’t calling her a simple girl because consuming an iced coffee gave her pleasure and happiness for a moment.
Then later, Tsukasa’s ego comes into play over the discussion of her past. She’s obviously very conscious of her age. As such, her vanity doesn’t want Nasa to see her as some kind of “loli-baba” character, where she may look 16, but she’s actually 1400. She only wants him to think of her as 16.
Beyond that, the other item of relevance is how Tsukasa sees the part of Tokyo they are at as the Musashi Province. And we learn an actual history of Tokyo with how Edo was and the Musashi stuff. Pretty cool.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
In the end, Tonikaku Cawaii Chapter 214 was a fun, realistic date chapter between Nasa and Tsukasa. And I learned that Edo wasn’t the name for everything we presently know as Tokyo. Pretty cool.
