Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 07

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Natsu apologizes to Lucy for losing control during the fight with Mercphobia. The residents of the city are surprised to learn they are actually humans rather than fish. They wonder what they will do without the water dragon god. Karameel and Mercphobia show up. The former dragon states that his powers are gone, making him only human now. Elsewhere at the Magia Dragon guild, Elefseria learns of the water dragon god’s defeat as part of the 100 Years Quest.

At the Diabolos guild, Skullion, Madmole, and Kiria report to the guild master, Georg Reizen. Meanwhile at the Fairy Tail guild, several members of the Sabertooth guild stop by for a visit. They discover the Fairy Tail guild building deserted. Elsewhere on a big sailing ship, Touka enjoys tea in her cabin. She is on the hunt for Natsu and his party to complete the defeat of Fairy Tail.

Meanwhile, Mercphobia briefs Team Natsu on what he knows about the other four dragon gods. He confirms that Ignia is the son of Igneel. Further, he warns them that they are not strong enough to defeat the other four dragon gods. After they depart, Lucy discovers that Natsu removed the train lines from their map. Eventually, the team make it to Tekka to board a train for Drasil.

Erza gets a huge crowd of admirers who think she’s Elkis. The real Elkis shows up, looking like Erza in glasses. She leads them to Fairy Nail.

Thoughts/Review:

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 07 is pretty much one of those “calm before the storm” episodes. As such, we get the wrap of of the water dragon arc. I figured Mercphobia wouldn’t be dead, even though everyone talked as if Natsu kill him. After all, even if someone dies, with rare exceptions, Mashima-sensei doesn’t like to keep them dead. But in this case, the water dragon god wasn’t dead. And if I understood right, Team Natsu is going to go after the wood dragon god, Aldoron. That’s a new type of dragon in the dragon pantheon.

I forgot that Natsu and Wendy don’t like any kind of transport. I have a vague memory of a train ride early in the Fairy Tail manga. Regardless, I don’t specifically recall Natsu getting motion sickness, but I’m guessing he did, considering his objection to getting onto a train.

On the Touka front, we get a convenient visit by Sabertooth guild members so they can discover Fairy Tail folks are missing. Further, Touka is on a ship, presumably to intercept Team Natsu at some point. But that does leave the question as to where the Fairy Tail members are.

Finally, there’s the whole 100 Years Quest. I get that Mercphobia was supposed to be insanely OP. And the only reason Natsu won was because of Ignia. Yet somehow, there’s a disconnect in my mind. If others battled Mercphobia, and we know they did, why didn’t he lose control then? I don’t know, but there’s something nagging me about this whole quest.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

Let me wrap up my review of Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 07 with some final thoughts.

• Fairy Tail often did ecchi stuff. And this new series loves showing off Lucy’s “assets”. But I don’t remember anything blatant like Natsu lifting Lucy’s shirt to check out her breasts for damage. Yeah, it was done as a gag, but to me, the childishness of it kills any push for a Natsu x Lucy romance the show also tries to imply.
• I guess Diabolos is going to factor in for this whole series. Normally, when Fairy Tail members (usually Team Natsu) fight another guild, there’s an ultimate resolution. Here, Team Natsu battles some of Diabolos, then they retreat to fight another day. I give credit for making this something unique. But there are already a ton of characters. And no doubt, Diabolos will have lots of members as well.
• No clue what’s going on with this Erza clone, Elkis. I seem to recall some alternate universe where there were different versions of the Fairy Tail characters. Maybe this is another situation like that.

In the end Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 07 wraps up the previous arc and gets us started on a new arc.
