SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Natsu surprises the god Seed Aldoron by landing a blow on him. Outside, the giant Gajeel pounds on the god Dragon Aldoron. Brandish warns that at that size, Gajeel only has three minutes to defeat the wood dragon god. God Seed Aldoron causes massive numbers of large, sword-like shards to appear and rain down on Natsu. At the same time, the god Dragon Aldoron does the same, causing the various Fairy Tail groups to flee with injuries.

Time runs out for Gajeel as Dragon Aldoron fires a massive projectile. It misses him thanks to him shrinking. However, when it lands, it causes a massive explosion. With that, Dragon Aldoron puts his head down and rains more spears all over him. Inside the dragon, Seed Aldoron manages to pierce Natsu several times. The god Seed turns to leave, but Natsu discovers what he has to do to burn Aldoron’s wood.

Seed Aldoron scoffs at a human doing this, but is surprised to detect Igneel’s flame in Natsu. He angers Natsu by declaring disdain for all humans. During Natsu’s counterattack, Seed Aldoron detects the fire dragons Atlas and Ignia’s flame with Igneel’s. Natsu eventually defeats god Seed Aldoron, which in turn kills the main body as well.

At Diabolos, the guild master is not happy with the results with Aldoron. He reinforces Skullion’s team with Scarlet Dragon Suzaku. Meanwhile, all of Fairy Tail flee Drasil to the town of Dramil. After explanations about the White Mage are given, Fairy Tail parties. Outside, Jellal contemplates things and Erza joins him, ending in an embrace.

Thoughts/Review:

Whoa! We had another tiny bit of romantic movement in Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 18. I had to check the manga to see if it was canon. It was!

Battle of Aldoron

As expected, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 18 showed us Gajeel in giant form. Since Natsu had to be the hero, the story was written to only give him three minutes in giant form. But the explanation for Brandish’s limitation made logical sense. I just wish I remembered all the stuff she did when Fairy Tail previously fought her.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 18

What is a plot convenience is no one from Fairy Tail dying from the rain of large, wooden shard projectiles. Yes, the occasional person got scratched, and everyone had an excess of bandages and wraps on afterward. However, I feel that Fairy Tail members should have been providing cover as they fled, rather than trusting to blind luck. Further, I think folks should have gotten more injured to make it feel more real.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 18

As to Natsu’s battle with Seed Aldoron, we get the cliched nakama power speech. The only thing that surprised me about this fight was Natsu getting pierced so many times by the large wood shards. However, once Natsu burned the unburnable wood, the fight went on as expected. Despite this, I can’t say the fight bored me, though how did Natsu survive such terrible wounds?

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 18

Finally, I did check the manga and there were some slight differences for the end of the story. In the manga, apparently Fairy Tail had to bluff their way past a military force come to check on the commotion with the dragon. In the anime, they just flee before the army gets there. I’m okay with that change.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

Let me wrap up my review of Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 18 with some final thoughts.

  • I should have guessed the mystery woman was a dragon. When she observed Aldoron’s death, her shadow had a dragon appearance. Then the Diabolos Master called her the Moon Dragon god Selene. So, I guess that’s the next dragon god on the menu.
  • One really nice touch was when Juvia did her normal “Gray-sama” routine, Gray pulled her close. I laughed at the shocked look on some of the Fairy Tail members faces. Man, I want Juvia to somehow get in on this 100 Years Quest. There is precedent for her being on Team Natsu.
  • Also, I liked the touch of Jellal embracing Erza after their talk. I can’t specifically recall if this has happened before.
  • Without specifying how, the episode established that Touka isn’t from Extalia, the world Happy and Charle (Carla) come from.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 18

In the end, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest 18 was an entertaining episode. Onto the next dragon.
