Ranma 1/2 11
らんま1/2
Spoiler Summary/Synopsis
Akane gets furious over Shampoo’s affections to Ranma. As such, she calls off the engagement, leading her father to become angry with Ranma. After a time, Akane calms down and sees Ranma trying to explain things to Shampoo, who doesn’t understand. Shampoo’s actions enrage Akane more. Ryouga decides to take advantage by dumping cold water on Ranma, leading Shampoo to seeing female Ranma and attacking.
The next day, Kasumi forces Akane to get Ranma up. Akane discovers Shampoo sleeping with Ranma. As such, she dumps cold water on Ranma so that Shampoo resumes her attacks on his female form. Ryouga observes Akane and Ranma fighting on their way to school. He struggles with his conscious, but gets splashed with cold water and turned into a pig. Shampoo finds him in this state and takes him.
At school, Shampoo brings “lunch” to Ranma, which includes an unconscious P-chan. After Ranma saves him and Akane takes P-chan to her bosom, Shampoo gives Akane the Kiss of Death, so Akane accepts the challenge. Akane refuses to listen to Ranma and punches him out of a window. However, when Akane faces Shampoo, Akane loses. Ranma finds her unconscious. When she comes to, she has no memory of who Ranma is.
Thoughts/Review
I only vaugly remember the story in Ranma 1/2 11. That said, Akane’s jealousy is the start of a trend that I already know will become tiresome. She won’t listen, bad things happen, she then realizes she was wrong, she and Ranma are good again. Lather, rinse, repeat.
I will say that Shampoo looks pretty cute here. I never found the OG anime character designs to be that appealing. So I give it to MAPPA for making Shampoo look extra cute, making Ranma’s consideration of her as a girlfriend more believable.
As to Ryouga, I would say that I like how he’s dealing with the reality of the situation. Akane will never see him the way she sees Ranma. Further, if she ever learned that he was in fact P-chan, that could cause more problems. Unfortunately, this isn’t a moment of true contemplation. After all, this series has a TON more material to adapt, and Ryouga has to stay a part of it until the end.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
In the end, rubbish subtitles aside, Ranma 1/2 11 was fine for what it was. I didn’t actually laugh, and Megumi-san didn’t have enough work to make me smile. But it was entertaining enough.
