SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Haku comes upon Wendy and Lily, where he brags about dispatching two of her friends. However, he becomes smitten with Wendy and confesses to her. She’s not happy about what might have happened to her friends, so Haku turns Lily into a plushie to prove he doesn’t hurt anyone. Irene’s spirit tells Wendy she can undo the magic, so she does.

Haku falls even harder for Wendy. He wants her to go out with him if he defeats her. Irene forces Wendy to agree. However, she explains to Wendy that she’s not going to allow some punk to get the best of them. Wendy and Haku battle, He even eats her breath attack. However, he uses his white-tiger dragon attack to turn Irene’s spirit into a plushie. At the same time, he drops the cute act and gets serious.

Elsewhere, Laxus gets up from a massive beating.

Thoughts/Review:

We get a batch of typical shounen fare with Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 97. I have to admit, I did chuckle when Irene hijacked Wendy to agree to Haku’s challenge. Of course I didn’t expect Haku to act as he did. So kudos to Mashima-sensei for that.

Speaking of Irene, it is kind of surprising that Haku was able to turn her spirit into a plushie. Naturally for plot purposes, she cannot be restored. Regardless, Lily now knows Wendy’s secret of Irene. I presume she’ll return to normal when Haku is defeated.

That aside, Haku turning into a vicious little brat didn’t surprise me. Not only is this typical for Mashima-sensei, but it is kind of a shounen trope. The little boy who acts all cute and dresses like a tiger isn’t so cute after all.

Speaking of not being surprised, we come to Laxus. I kinda figured he’d take a beating in this chapter. We didn’t get to see it, but it was there. Now for the Laxus come back.

Final Thoughts and Conclusion

In the end, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 97 had some humorous moments in what was otherwise, cliched shounen fare.
