I Survived a Japanese Game Show

Update: My look at the first episode can be read here.

Ever since I lived in Japan and saw their game shows (Takeshi’s Castle for example), I’ve been a fan and would love to have said shows brought to the U.S., though in an unedited form (which sadly, did not happen in the case of Takeshi’s Castle when it was twisted into MXC on Spike TV).

Fast-forward to today. ABC has decided to get in on the Japanese thing by creating their own game show called I Survived a Japanese Game Show where they send folks to Japan to participate in actual Japanese game show contests. While the promo’s for the show aren’t much (as of this posting), I’m going to try to remember to give this a look-see when it comes out just to see if it is any good or not. I figure that ABC’s version won’t be anywhere as good as the original Japanese shows, but we’ll see.

They are also doing a show called Wipeout, which looks a lot like your Takeshi’s Castle.

I just saw the video for that. It does appear to be an American version of “Takeshi’s Castle.”
