SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Susumu faces off against Desler and wonders why Desler is fighting with the Comet Empire. Susumu could understand Desler fighting to save his people even at the expense of humans. For Desler, it is about revenge as Yamato made him suffer a terrible humiliation. So it is down to the two of them and a duel, but Susumu passes out from his injuries and is aided by Yuki, who happened to have observed the conversation. Desler does not attack but in light of Yuki’s love for Susumu combined with his triumph over Yamato and his dislike of the Comet Empire’s reasons for fighting, Desler holsters his weapon and reminds her of how Yamato defeated the Gamilus people with two-pronged above and below attack. With that, he and Talan leave.

A group of others arrive on the Gamilus bridge and Susumu is returned to Yamato for treatment as the Gamilus fleet turns and leaves. Once he is able, Susumu returns to the bridge to find everyone down. It is then that he sees that Daisuke is missing and Yuki tells him Daisuke died protecting her. With Earth about to sign the surrender papers, Sanada take charge of the repairs to Yamato, the hull being priority one. Susumu calls a staff meeting where they discuss the situation. The hull work can be completed in three hours, but they’ll have no Wave Motion Cannon, nor will they have main turrets 1 & 3. In order to attack the White Comet fortress, they’ll have to use torpedoes. Yuki remembers what Desler told her and so Susumu has a plan — the remaining fighters will attack the White Comet from above and Yamato will attack from under the ocean.

Elsewhere, Daisuke is found by Teresa, herself also alive but too week to really do anything for the unconscious Daisuke other than bring him onto her ship (or whatever she has) and proclaim her love for him.

On Earth, the president and senior military members depart for the White Comet while Yamato arrives. Yamato launches fighters and sends a message to the yacht carrying the surrender party to get out of the combat zone that Yamato is about to create. The Earth President is reluctant, but Chief orders the yacht turned about. Yamato enters the ocean while her fighters begin their attack run.

Thoughts/Review:

This anime bores me. Seriously, Teresa is alive and of course Daisuke is alive. Desler has a change of heart. Yamato isn’t quite as damaged as we thought, despite taking enough ordinance to destroy several fleet. I’m supposed to be bought off with the fact that the Wave Motion Cannon and two of the main turrets cannot be repaired in three hours. However, the hull can be repaired in that time for an under the sea voyage. Whatever. I’m just weary of it all. Any real sense of drama is long gone and once that happened, I lost interest. That officially happened with this episode.

I will say that I did like it that Desler got his victory. OK, Yamato wasn’t completely destroyed, but a win is a win as they say. This is the one thing I’ll give the writers and I’ll take it away if Desler attacks the White Comet.

That said, I will plow through the final two episodes just to see what magical things are done to “win.”
