SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Negima! Manga Vol 29 Ch 259 ReviewOutside the ball, Jack confronts this third iteration of Fate, referring to him “Averruncus of Earth” and referencing how Nagi defeated the first two versions. Fate disagrees with Jack’s assessment that he has changed personality-wise, saying he is the same as before. Since Fate is still determined to carry out his holy quest to destroy the world, Jack sees no choice but to fight him. However, Koyomi, Homura, Shirabe, and Tamaki arrive to defend “Fate-sama,” not seeing Jack as worthy of Fate’s time.

Koyumi has not forgotten her humiliation at having been defeated before and tells Jack that the four of them will defeat him. However, before she can activate her artifact, Jack uses a “Hi-Ougi: Muon Mekuri & Nugashi-Jutsu” technique which removes their panties and then Soyokaze Bakufuuken and Soyokaze Reppuuken to keep Koyumi from using her artifact and the other girls off balance as they try to keep the winds Jack has created from exposing their naked flesh. Fate asks Koyumi if she cannot use her artifact.

Tamaki actives her Encompandentia Infinita artifact, creating the subspace area to trap Jack in. However, while Tamaki says he won’t be able to escape this time, Jack likes it here since he can go all out and not cause collateral damage.

Koyumi changes into a beast form (cat) and Homura turns into the Human Torch changes into a Fire Spirit. Shirabe uses her Fidicula Lunatica artifact to attack Jack, then directs Homura to blast him. Koyumi is going to finish Jack off with her artifact, but Jack comes to life and grabs both Koyumi and Horuma by the ankles, holding them upside-down. Horuma is astonished that Jack can hold her fire form but then remembers that Jack fought the lightning-form of Negi with no problem. For his part, Jack decides to satisfy his curiosity and asks the girls why they are helping Fate.

Meanwhile at the ball, Emily chastises her comrades for gawking and looking like commoners since they are being allowed to attend without having to work since Yue knows Negi. Since Yue’s friends from Earth will be attending, Collet figures this is goodbye since Yue will be going back to Earth. Since Yue’s memories haven’t returned, she’s not sure she wants to go back yet. Emily attempts to play cold and pretends to be glad Yue is leaving until Bea contradicts her with her true feelings about admiring Yue and seeing a rival. Emily admits the truth, saying it would be Ariadne’s loss for Yue to return. However, Emily reminds Yue that since Ariadne is paying for Yue’s education under the assumption that Yue will become a Knight, Yue has an obligation to return one day lest she be branded a scholarship thief. Collet likes the idea of Yue returning someday.

“Nagi” and Kotaro arrive and upon seeing Yue, “Nagi” winks at her. However, both Emily and Collet think “Nagi-sama” winked at them and both get quite excited about it.

Thoughts/Review: Averruncus of Earth — well, the current theory is that Fate is the third of five elements created by the Life Maker. Sounds reasonable to me I guess. I would just say that I don’t believe this has any bearing on Fate’s water-gating technique, which I believe is him entering cyberspace. I still say Fate is tied to Spider-Zero and now that I finally have volume 8 of A.I. Love You, I’ll see what I can do about getting some scans in of Spider-Zero. Spider-Zero and Fate both have destructive missions which is why I think they are the same program at the core, only Fate has been much upgraded.

I see the path for Yue to return to Earth has now been laid. I like the idea of Yue returning to the Magic World someday as an adult. Heck, I can see Nodoka returning here too one day. ^_^ Emily’s rivalry with Yue is amusing without being too cliched, which is something I like. I wonder what Emily would do if “Nagi” danced with her? Collet as well. *lol*

Fate’s whole reaction to his girls coming to save him and Koyumi’s inability to use her artifact thanks to Jack amused me. He comes off more cold and distant as a teen male than as a 10-year old boy. I’m interested in learning why the girls are following Fate and his apparent holy quest. Interesting that a construct would have such religious beliefs, but then the constructs in A.I. Love You had their own wills so maybe Fate’s beliefs aren’t that big a deal.

Jack will be able to handle Fate’s girls but what about Fate himself? I still sense that Jack vs. Fate is how Negi and company will escape back to Earth without a final confrontation between Fate and Negi. There’s still the matter of Anya (who seems all but forgotten) and Asuna. I really do hope we get to see Asuna deal with her past before all is said and done. And we’ll see if I’m right about Jack getting a death flag and Negi and company all returning safely to Earth.

    Loved the Human Torch comment.

Just a quick note about Shirabe and Homura – a dust cloud of any combustible material explodes pretty spectacularly if ignited; even a spark will do. I’m pretty sure it was a deliberate combo on their part.

But the girls really need to take a lesson from Shiori when she gets back from playing !Asuna – she hardly even gives a #@$% anymore about being naked in public.

Like I said before, Rakan won’t die, he’ll just become a decoration.

Thank you for the chapter review Mr.Astro. I looked back a few chapters and Shori said it was 10 years ago that Fate perfected his technique I think. Corect me if I’m wrong. Also it could be the second who perfected it but then again we don’t know if there extras of Fate or do they take years to make. Well that’s my ranting.

Interesting idea about Negi going back without a showdown with Fate. It would make sense if ‘the life maker’ is indeed dead, since then Fate could still be the final boss. Instead we’ll see Negi vs Godel.

I’m guessing Negi has figured out Asuna is a fake, Shiori unknowingly made a mistake when she copied her, by copying the Ala Ruba badge there is now one homing device to many.

Anyhow I hope we’ll soon get an answer to why Asuna is missing 10 years of her life.
An idea I have is that Negi is also missing 10 years, and that Arika did die 18 years ago.

Hey Astro just how do you know which chapters are part of which volume? In this case 259 is part of Volume 29. I mean I know Negima usually is nine chapters a volume, but sometimes it goes up to ten.

In the early days, the manga used to be 10-chapters in length. That stopped being the case a few years ago when Akamatsu-sensei got more “time off” from the manga (those notorious breaks).

@arimareiji — thanks for the link and yes, it was a deliberate combo on their part.

@fg7 — Decoration not withstanding, I still have the feeling that his sacrifice will allow Negi and company to escape. It may even allow the arrival of Fate 4.0.

@mega — it took Fate a lot of time to perfect the disguise technique. I’m not sure about the water-gating.

@Anon — sometimes I think Negi knows what is going on and sometimes not. We’ll see how Akamatsu-sensei plays it out though.

Actualy, Asuna is mising 12 years of her life. She was brought at Mahora 8 years ago by Takamichi. But htey might have been on the run for 2 years. Kinda long, still..
And yeah, it might have something to do with Arika’s execution, since her arival at Mahora was 10 years after the execution. I think most things are related with 10-year periods.
Negi is 10. Nagi disapeared 10 years ago- 10 years after the war. Albireo Imma also went into hiding 10 years ago. A new Fate apears every 10 years. Chao put her plan in motion 10 years after Nagi went mising. And so on. It be a way of accentuating the fact that Negi is 10, like Asuna keeps reminding herself.
As for the reason why Asuna was mising for so long, I’m 90 % sure she was sealed, in order to recover. That ceremony that was meant to destroy th Magic World by absorbing al magic, it had Asuna’s magic cancel at it’s core. Remember the fight betwin Negi and that Baron class demon that petrified his vilage. He used a medalion that directed all magic towards Asuna. She was in pain even from a few magic arows. Imagine what would happen to her if she had absorbed a humongus amount of power like during the war.

Well i know what u are saying & also we have seen what might actually happen to her if something like that happened as shown in the flashback in ch 169 (in the flashback after see had nullified/absorded the attacks of many spirit cannons she started to bleed from her mouth).
