Reminder — No Negima! 268 Chapter This Week
Just a reminder to everyone that this is a break week, so no Negima! chapter 268 spoilers today (not that we’ve had any for two weeks) and no chapter on Wednesday.
This week, I thought I’d share the image of the most mysterious character in Negima! who may in the end turn out to be the biggest dud in the series. ^_~
I rather doubt we’ll see Zazie for quite some time but nevertheless, here’s the image just the same. ^_^
Ken Akamatsu’s decision to cut the Nightmare circus arc will never cease to infuriate me.
I think that after a while, Akamatsu-sensei simply grew weary of the Mahora Festival arc and decided to press the story forward. I guess he determined that whatever story may have been there for the Nightmare Circus didn’t play out in the course of the main story. It is kind of like how he was going to introduce Al in volume 2, then decided against it.
Ran across a more complete answer to someone’s question back when: Apparently Kurt Gödel wasn’t just any mathematician. He upended the mathematics world in 1931 by disproving the notion that any complete and true system could describe all natural numbers. It laid the foundation for much of modern computer science.
Interestingly, the real-life Gödel seems to bear more than a passing physical resemblance to Akamatsu-sensei’s (“our”) Gödel. Part of the physical resemblance, his thinness, was due to the fact he was quite hypochondriac. Remember our Gödel’s comments about his “frail physical constitution”?
This next section may bear on later plot development. Possibly to the extent of needing this ***SPOILER*** tag, so I’m adding one just in case. Events from the real Gödel’s life:
1) He and his wife escaped from Germany in 1940, not long before things really started going to hell.
2) Even his supporters criticize his initial emotionless indifference to the fates of his colleagues under the Nazi government.
3) In 1949, he demonstrated that time travel into the past was not incompatible with his friend Einstein’s theory of relativity.
4) He experienced two mental breakdowns in the mid ’30s, and was quite paranoid in his later years.
5) Gödel was a very flawed – but at the same time very admirable – person.
If you ask me, Akamatsu-sensei meant for his name to be a lot more significant than we first realized. The full article I ran across can be found here.
Interesting stuff there, arimareiji. ^_^
That’s a really cute image of Zazie.
sighs…no Negima for another week, and I was looking forward to it! Does any one know what date the next chapter is coming out? Oh, and like Astro-san said, interesting stuff Arimareiji- san!! (^o^)
October 28th is when the magazine goes on sale.
In fact, Zazie isn’t most mysterious one. We know about her actually more than about girls from cheerleader group. They are most mysterious girls in Negima. And Shiina Sakurako is fraking wierd, you know. She was able to fing magicaly hidden gate to Magic World! SHe is something else! They are the cheerleaders form hell!
Zazie has spoken the fewest words of anyone in the class. The cheerleaders have spoken a ton in comparison. ^_~
zazie rules…..
Thank you, ANB and Anon2… I personally thought that article was really interesting, but I wasn’t sure if it was just me. (^_^)
@MarcussI wouldn’t say that we know more about Zazie than we do about the cheerleaders, but you’re correct in saying that we still know very little about them (even though they have gotten a lot more words in). Personally I think that’s a shame, since I’ve developed a completely irrational fondness for Madoka based on one of the character songs from the soundtracks. (^_~)
Sugoi! Its been awhile! Just to let you know…I was Anon2 but that’s out of the question. If the “Negima” Gödel-san is a great mathematician I wouldn’t be surprised.
@ Arimareiji-san
Maybe Akamatsu-san might make a story about the cheerleaders and the ones back at Mahora Academy. I mean, the main characters deserve a break!
@Chii: I doubt Negima Gödel will literally be a mathematician; I think the similarities will probably be more symbolic. For example, he might have discovered the principles of time travel that let Chao come back. Or he might be disturbingly paranoid (but still be right about what needs to be done), and Negi can gently keep him in touch with reality the way real-life Gödel’s friends did. Or, my favorite… it might feed into my pet theory that he has survivor’s guilt about not being able to protect his friends in Ala Rubra. There are lots of possibilities, not just the literal ones. (^_^)
Cheerleader side story: It would be nice, but I suspect Akamatsu-sensei really wants to get back to the current storyline. He’s had to explain a lot of background lately. And he still needs to explain even more Arika/Nagi/Gödel background, resolve Rakan’s fight with Fate, catch us up with Asuna and Anya and rescue them, explain some Asuna background, explain the new artifacts and give the battle harem some action, etc… poor Akamatsu-sensei is juggling his heart out, but he still has a lot of balls up in the air. For now, I’d be surprised if he gives the students at school more than cute snippets like the ones in chapter 210.
@ Arimareiji-san
Yes, now that I think about it, I doubt it too and you are right! Akamatsu-san is juggling balls! Well, it would be nice if Akamatsu-san went back to Anya-chan and Asuna-san. It’s been a while since we last saw them! Come to think of it, how many months has it been since we last saw them?93564201
Jut to let you know, that number is my “mathematics” number, NOT a phone number…try it and you’ll just waste money! Anyway, I think it was about 10 months since we last saw Asuna-san!
I thought them cheerleaders got sucked by Eva in first volume so they got half-vampire’s abilities? (reinfield’s).
@Chii — it has been a long time since we saw Asuna. I rather miss the real her.
@laclongquan — It was the sports girls who were enthralled by Eva. Ironically enough, all of them are now on the Magic World. ^_^
I agree that we probably wont see Zazie for quite some time since this magical world ark is still going. Akamatsu might bring up her story once the ark is complete as a way to transitioninto the next ark.
I’m getting a little tired of all the politics that are slowing down Ala Alba. They haven’t done anything at all and all of these different organizations and explanations of the past are giving them a lot of trouble. I know that its part of the main storyline but its been really dragging out the ark. I’m not saying all the explanations are unnecessary, only that their have been a few to many of them and not enough focus on the main characters.
(sigh) Another break?
two chapters haven’t come out back to back weeks since spring <_>.
I want Yue to get her memory back because the team really needs her. Not counting Negi, She is the best decision maker on the team and she can really help Negi make the right choices. Personally I think Ala Alba needs to remain on their own side as an independent party until they completely understand the situation, which still looks like its going to be awhile because I think Godel will only tell about Arika’s decisions and past and not about Fate and his team.
I think that all Ala Alba needs right now is to return to the real world so that things are less chaotic for them and they have time to think about all they have learned. However this still will not happen for a good number of chapters since a lot is still going on (asuna & anya still need to be rescued {we still don’t know what memories Fate unlocked for her}, gateport needs to be secured and activated, Yue needs her memories back, Rakan is fighting Fate, Ala Alba needs to clear their names, and Godel is still explaining the past) See, a lot still needs to be resolved(I bet I even left out something).
These flash backs are also really annoying to read when they come out chapter by chapter. I really feel that you have to read the flashback from beginning to end continuously to understand it completely. Hopefully there won’t be any more break weeks in the future;(yeah right, but I’m being hopeful).
@trackDeck — I remember when the Mahora arc played out that it seemed to drag at times when read week-to-week. By the time the arc went into its final phase, I was glad of it because the story finally seemed to push forward. Now when I read the Mahora Festival arc, I don’t feel the drag. That’s because I’m not having to wait weeks and months for things to progress.
In the end, I figure it will be much the same for the Magic World arc. The politics do seem to be dragging out the arc thanks to the week-to-week reading of a manga chapter, but when the arc concludes, I believe that things will play out fine. As you say, the political aspect is part of the main storyline and those stories aren’t going to work as well when read bit by bit rather than as a whole.
@Dragoonstorm7 — Yeah, the flashbacks will work better when read as a whole.
I agree that Ala Alba needs to remain independent and I think in the end that is what will happen.
As to the break thing, well the 3+1 system is still in effect for Akamatsu-sensei. At the end of the year, there could be a three week break as well.
sighs…there’s a lot going on…it would be about like another 10 more months to answer all the questions and unfinished stories…it would be better if Akamatsu-san just concentrated on one thing instead of going to another and then another but it makes it more enjoyable to read.
@ Astro-san
What is a 3+1 system? I don’t know anything!
3+1 means there are three weeks of “Negima!” chapters followed by a 1-week break.
As Im myself writing an anime themed novel I can actually understand why he needs these breaks I only have 100 chapters and thats all but recently took a major break too its very hard to come out with ideas on the spot and he needs to come back to earlier chapters to be in touch with the storyline ! Thats why it takes so long besides I write stories (one page chapter) it it must take him 8 hours adleast not many people know how much effort you need to put in this !

hmm i think reading negima in week long sessions really draws on the story forever but if i only read the graphic books id be dead before they all came out. I think the asuna fake might make a commotion soon remember she said she only had to be with negi for one more day
One of my favorite characters in this series is Eva, who I’m kinda sad to see has not had a large role in this arc. Yes, she still has been teaching Negi, but only that. She is not involved at all with the rest of the team and is not sharing their adventure. She is also the only member of Ala Alba not with the group(not counting Asuna & Anya)(At least I think Honorary Adviser counts as a member). This has been the result of trapping Eva with the binding spell that stops her from adventuring with everyone else. My hope is that in the future, Negi finds a way to break the curse that binds her to the school, and we get to read a nice emotional chapter about Eva realizing that she’s not alone in the world anymore and has friends that accept her for who she is.
Maybe I’m being too hopeful, but I really want this to happen! Eva’s had a sad past and I think she needs to realize that now their are people who care for her.
I think she knows that already (Eva) Im hoping for my theory to be correct than there should be emotions involved Eva will be in spotlight as well as both Asuna’s ,Anya ,Fate and Godel
