魔法先生 ネギま!Volume 30 Chapter 270 (manga)
Mahou Sensei Negima! Manga Chapter 270
Negima! Manga Vol 30 Ch 270 Review
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
With Gödel’s story over, Nodoka uses her artifact to determine that he was in love with Arika. Gödel decides that now Negi has seen the accurate story of what happened with Arika and Nagi, Negi should now join Gödel’s cause and continue Negi’s parent’s work. Further, Gödel sees no reason for Negi to hesitate in his decision.
Meanwhile, the rest of Negi’s group has been watching the same recreation, thanks to Asakura’s artifact and Sayo’s providing a connection between rooms. The group is touched but Fu Fei doesn’t get it, causing Paru to have to explain. Emily, Yue, and Collet have also been watching and Emily is amazed that the truth of what happened was never released. She’s determined to make a scene, so Kaede restrains her. Emily is further ticked by Paru’s addressing Yue without honorifics.
Yue uses her artifact to extract more information since she now sees Negi as a more important person. Yue sees that the Ostia line goes back to the mage daughter of the Creator, named Amateru. It is from her that the pactio system came from and that her decendants have access to the Magic of the Ancients. Emily has never heard of this, so Yue explains that her artifact, Orbis Sensualium Pictus, can retrieve high-level classified information. There is some discussion that follows where the group remembers another member of the royal family, to which Paru states her amusement at the coincidence that the Twilight Imperial Princess is Asuna.
On Earth, Al finishes telling Eva the story of Nagi and Arika and she’s annoyed, realizing that when she met Nagi fifteen years ago, he was already married to Arika and as such, had resisted her charms. Al doesn’t think that her charms would have worked either way. Eva figures that Gödel, based on Al’s description, and Negi will make a wonderful combination.
Sayo reports back to the group and a discussion breaks out about Gödel’s trustworthiness with Shiori-Asuna opposed to trusting him. Paru tells the others that they better get ready to leave quickly should things go south and that includes Yue.
Rakan and Fate are fighting and enjoying it but Rakan claims the fight is his. Fate remarks that even if Rakan wins the fight, Fate cannot be defeated and thus it is time for Fate to defeat Rakan.
Thoughts/Review: Finally, we have established when Eva met Nagi — fifteen years earlier. So, Eva must not have traveled with them much. It would seem that Nagi “rescued” Eva, introduced her to Ala Rubra, she trained with them as she traveled with them, then when Nagi set off on his own, she followed him. Somewhere in there, Nagi learned who Eva truly was — the Shinso High Daylight Walker. She tailed him to Earth and Japan where he laid a trap for her and the rest is history.
The other clear thing is that Arika was not with Ala Rubra when Eva was with them for that short period of time and that Asuna was not with them either. That would mean that Asuna was rescued the second time shortly after Eva’s imprisonment at Mahora.
I found it interesting that Negi is troubled by the fact that he was never told anything about his mother. That was one of the many aspects that made me think that Negi might be Nagi since Negi never cared a whit about his mother, only his father. It will be interesting to see how and where Arika hid herself ’cause I don’t think she’s any more dead than Nagi is.
If Negi is simply the son of Arika and Nagi, then his abilities have been given an explanation. Before, I chalked up his abilities to him being Nagi in disguise — the mind may forget but the body remembers. However, if he has inherited a special magic, he might have access to a lot of fighting skills and spells and when he trains to use them, he actually already knows them on a deep, subconscious level. I base this idea on how Setsuna and Kaede noticed how rapidly Asuna grew in abilities while on the Magic World and they couldn’t explain her rapid acceleration in skills.
Sayo really proves her worth in this chapter. I don’t know if she’ll ever get her own pactio or not but as a user of Asakura’s artifact, her information gathering abilities step up even more. I’m glad that she gets used here as I fear she won’t be of much use in a fight.
The fight between Jack and Fate goes to show how tough Jack is but it also provides the chilling aspect to the mere fact of “how do you truly kill a construct?”
I loved the throw-away line mentioning Ryoumen Sukuna no Kami. ^_^
Finally, Gödel is still Gödel and thus I do not trust him. If I had to guess, I’d say that Negi won’t side with him either, but we’ll see.
Eva’s hundreds of yrs old I don’t think she needed much in the way of training when she met Nagi, most likely that angry mob caught her before she had the chance to feed off someone’s blood so she was in a weakened state or else she’d have blown them to hell and back…
and I don’t think it was so much traveling together as a prolonged period of her stalking him, and along the way she met the others, lol.
Where did you read this? I cant find the translation anywhere!
Is Emily going to get into a bitter rivalry with Haruna?
@Scorpiowolf — there is the stalking aspect. I guess I used “traveled around” since Takahata mentioned schooling with Eva, hence his lack of honorific use when addressing her. Granted that was the Del Rey translation and I’d need to go back to the Japanese source to see if that’s what was actually said or not. Even if accurate, it doesn’t remove the stalking element. *lol*
Anyway, Eva had long roamed both Earth and apparently the Magic World seeing as how she is a well known quantity there and used in tales to frighten children. One thing she mentioned in the Mahora Festival arc was how no learning goes to waste, which is why that despite being powerful, she learned various martial arts. As such, I can see her coming in contact with Ala Rubra, understanding that these are the most powerful people on the Magic World, and then attempting to pick up some skills.
Besides, I get the feeling Eva pretended to be a normal kid for a time and if so, she may have gone through the motions of learning at the very least.
@Anon — the normal place. ^_~
@Philip — *lol* Emily did amuse me with her going off on Paru’s lack of honorifics when addressing Yue.

After this flashback I can’t imagine Negi and Nagi being the same person. It just wouldn’t make sense given the whole Nagi and Arika thing.
After reading this chapter I am even more sure that their is a “master plan” regarding Negi (and possibly Asuna) formulated by Nagi and/or Arika before he was born, though I also think events have gone faster than they anticipated.
If not you have to wonder why Al (and also Eishun and Takamichi) could not have simply told Negi themselves rather than have him travel to the Magic World where he is a target.
I am also not sure what to make of Al’s throw away line regarding Ryoumen Sukuna no Kami as it could be read in one of two ways. The first way is that it was also down to MM, the second is that Ala Rubra were the ones who released it as Eishun said we dont do crazy things like that then Al mentioned RSNK in such a way that it could be read as Ala Rubra’s fault or MM’s
On the Sayo thing one thing I did note was that the link was only “almost” completely undectable which makes me think at some point it will be detected if not this time around by someone else in a later arc.
I also loved the Emily-Haruna interaction and I suspect Emily and Collet will tag along even if the other girls don’t. One thing I was slightly surpised by though was that Misora, Cocone, and the other Mahora “staff” mages were not present. Though it is possible that as the “film show” was held outside the ball they will be picked up when Negi leaves as I am sure they will want to return to Earth as well.
It’s not just you, ANB. You know I’ve been proposing the idea that Gödel is an Eva-esque good guy for a while now, and that chapter completely creeped even me out with its unreality. It’s almost as though they’re under the influence of a spell.
Sorry for the late reply. I’ve been busy working on other stuff.
So, it looks like you’re about ready to abandon the Negi=Nagi theory, aren’t you? Things do keep looking worse and worse for it. Like you said, we now have a hereditary means to explain Negi’s abilities.
This chapter and the preceding ones have definitely filled in a lot of missing gaps in the story, including when Eva met Ala Rubra. Now we just need some flashbacks showing what Nagi and Arika were up to after they escaped all the way up to when Negi was born.
Oh, and while I don’t doubt any of the revelations of these past few chapters, I still have my doubts that Godel would make a good ally. The guy still seems twisted, like he would just use Negi as a tool for getting revenge on Megalomesenbria for what they tried to do to Arika.
@Shadow — While it is still possible for Negi to be Nagi, Akamatsu-sensei’s logical explanations do make it seem less likely. It would appear that the whole prince joke from volume 2 was in fact foreshadowing and if that’s the case, I’ll have even more respect for Akamatsu-sensei’s writing abilities and disguising table setting in a joke (which he’s already done before but not one that took this long to pay off). ^_^
As to Kurt, I still don’t trust him.
