Has FUNimation Licensed Canon Tenchi Spinoff "Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari?"

On FUNimation’s new Open Beta site, the Tenchi Muyo (OVA 3) page lists not only the Tenchi licenses FUNimation has licensed, including the Geneon license rescues, but it also mentions Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari.  Now, this does not necessarily mean that FUNimation HAS the title but FUNimation only lists titles that they’ve licensed, which is why they don’t mention Mihoshi’s Adventure nor either of the Pretty Sammy titles.

Now, nothing has been officially said about FUNimation having the license and this may be just fan over-excitement and grasping at straws (darn you, ANB!).  I’m trying to see if FUNimation will say more or not but in the meantime, the fact that they list it at all is one I take as a good sign. ^_^

Update: Adam Sheehan did some checking for me (15-Apr-2011) and told me,

Yea, it’s there since it’s a liked show. Not saying we won’t get it one day but we don’t have it currently.

Bummer for sure that FUNimation doesn’t already have the license but hopefully they will down the road. ^_^

    I was thinking that FUNimation had licensed all Tenchi titles.

    Almost. I don’t know why, but FUNimation doesn’t have Mihoshi Special, Pretty Sammy OVA, or Pretty Sammy TV series. Mihoshi Special and Pretty Sammy OVA were dubbed but the TV series never was. So if FUNimation licensed the TV series, there would be extra costs if they wanted to release a dub version. I’m not aware of any sub-only FUNimation releases so that one might not be in the cards unless FUNimation decides to take the risk on a potential money-loser (due to the age of the series and it not being as popular).

    As far as Pretty Sammy goes, easy answer. Have you known Funi to license or license save ANYTHING magical girl related? Well…wait. They did put out Sasami Magical Girl Club. Damn, there goes my argument. Whatever. Already own it, so don’t care.

    But it’s good news the may have the license for the series I can’t pronounce by memory.

    Hi ANB I have a question my fav Tenchi series ever was Tenchi GXP but I live in Australia and don’t think it was ever released here is there a good trustworthy site I can buy a box set in English from?.

    If it’s true that they did not license Mihoshi Special, I guess it’s official, that we’re never gonna get the remastered TM!R blurays. MS was part of the TM!R bluray set. 😐

    @O-chan — Well, FUNi has expressed an interest in Sailor Moon but that’s not the same as licensing it. Sasami only got licensed because TM!R OVA 3 sold quite well for FUNimation (GXP as well) and so FUNimation went for the non-canon spinoff even though it was magic girl.

    Are you allowed to buy stuff from Aamazon (US site) or RightStuf? Both of those are trustworthy. Just remember, the sets will be R1 and Australia is R4. So you’ll need an R1 DVD player or a region-free DVD player, which shouldn’t be too hard to obtain (or convert).

    They could still license it. As to the remastered Blu-ray materials, I’m pretty sure FUNimation is trying to get those versions. They haven’t told me this but I believe they are based on how they work these days and their desire to get things out on Blu-ray.

    Speaking of Tenchi, ANB, if you still have Kyro’s TTN summaries, would you mind sharing them? Webarchives does not have a complete copy of his work.

  8. AstroNerdBoy says:

    Let me check my archived files. I should have them somewhere.

    Cool, it’d be nice to read that again, after so long. Plus so many newer fans never even knew those existed, so they’d benefit from it too.

  10. AstroNerdBoy says:

    OK, I found the files and other ones too. Now, I just got to figure out what to do with them as far as displaying them.

    Assuming they’re all plain text, I’d say the easiest thing to do is just post them as a blog entry or post them as a new topic on one of the many tenchi forums.

  12. AstroNerdBoy says:

    They aren’t exactly plain text. That said, I’ll see if I can get them up on the FAQ site.

  13. Anonymous says:

    ok, still think you’re better off using the old copypasta on just the text inside the html and posting it as a blog thou.

    In any case, I look forward to reading them again, after so many years.

  14. AstroNerdBoy says:

    I’ll try to get them up this month. I’m way behind on blogging at the moment and need to scramble to get things done. ^_^;;;

    I finally got around to marathon this series, and I quite enjoyed it. I grew up with the Tenchi series & I really like “Dual” so it’s no surprise my reaction to this show. I’m sure FUNi may license/release it one day seeing how popular GXP has been for them.

  16. AstroNerdBoy says:

    GXP and OVA 3 have been good sellers for FUNimation.

    How’s the redesigned site going?

  18. AstroNerdBoy says:

    VERY slow. This month is so busy with work stuff that I’m not even having enough time to blog properly (it has been a struggle to get a post out daily). I have talked with some folks (“Major Havoc” being the main person). I have a couple of templates but haven’t been able to work with them yet. Its frustrating but these things happen when real world things get in the way of fun time. ^_^;;;

    Well, with the site redesign taking so long, could you toss the originals [the Kyro TTN summeries] into a zip file and email it to me? megaman007_nospam_@ausi.com just remove the _nospam_ or you’ll get a bounce back. Thanks.
