Spotted Flower Chapter 06 (Manga)

Spotted Flower manga chapter 06

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

Spotted Flower Chapter 06NOTE: For the purposes of this and future reviews, until the characters are given names, I will call the woman “Oku-san” (a term for a wife) and I’ll refer to the guy as “Danna” (a term for a husband).

Oku-san has a dream-memory of her honeymoon in London three years ago, where Danna had taken her since it was the setting for an anime movie. She wakes up feeling frustrated since Danna doesn’t want to have sex with her now that she’s pregnant.

She decided to make a play on her sleeping husband and reaching down, she discovers a surprise. Thinking Danna to be awake, she turns to her side to be in the perfect position for pregnant sex when she really wakes up.

Frustrated again, she reaches over for her sleeping husband, who’s only reaction is to murmur about eating. Seeing Danna isn’t primed for action despite being asleep, Oku-san can only turn over and weep in frustration.

Thoughts/Review:

Well now, well now. Kio-sensei actually crosses the line here by showing a nipple from Oku-san during her memory-dream of her London honeymoon. I get the feeling from reading this series that Kio-sensei wouldn’t mind traveling down a more ecchi path, doing softcore porn manga.  I could be wrong, but Spotted Flower often deals with sex.

Still, the main issue Spotted Flower deals with on the sexual aspect is Danna’s lack of desire for his wife. I can’t wrap my head around that one. In my opinion, one of the reasons Kio-sensei is doing this series (aside from giving Saki X Madarame shippers from Genshiken a way to pretend this coupling actually happened) is the pregnant sex fetish. I recall my days in the military when single, unattached girls got pregnant, guys seemed to line up for a chance to have sex.  So, I just can’t fathom this lack of interest on Danna’s part.

I also can’t fathom how these two got together in the first place. What little back story we’ve gotten has them mirror the Saki and Madarame stories from Genshiken.  However, that doesn’t explain how Oku-san here said, “You know, this otaku dude is suddenly floating my boat.  I’ve got to get me some of that, right down to marrying him and having his child.”

For me, this chapter is disappointing because it was just an exercise in Oku-san’s continued failure to have pregnant sex with her husband.  Well, maybe the next chapter will be more interesting.

I’m not really sure why this kind of short-chapter, rarely published series even exists other than to maybe give the manga-ka a small bonus. I too wish there were more, but Kio-sensei’s main manga is Genshiken, so something like this is always going to be a side-thing for when he has a bit of free time.

Fujishima-sensei does something similar with Paradise Residence, though I don’t think anything new has come out in over a year for that series.
