Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai! Ren 05 anime review
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
Nanase-sensei summons the Oriental Magic Napping Society in Summer Club, saying that they’ll have to send a representative to a Student Council meeting to see if their club gets to retain the room assigned to it. Although reluctant to accept, Rikka is chosen to represent the club, ultimately ending up faking illness to get out of questioning. Nanase-sensei stops by the club room, saying that things don’t look good for the club, but after Kumin points out napping goes on and Yuuta points out that napping is in the club name, suddenly Nanase-sensei thinks they have a legitimate club, setting up a match with a siesta club at another school. Kumin assures the others that this will be no problem, so they agree to the match.
That evening at the train station, Kumin is discussing naps with Yuuta and Nibutani, then goes to sleep while standing. They find themselves joined by NEMURI Sui, the president of the Siesta Club at the high school being challenged. Sui isn’t impressed by what she sees, figuring the club to be a goof off one. Kumin wakes to assure Sui they are serious. Rikka says their club will disband if they loose the napping competition. The next day, Yuuta is not happy with Rikka as Kumin builds napping cubicles out of cardboard for them to practice in. Rikka experiences sleep paralysis, calling for Yuuta in a way that makes Sanae and Nibutani think something naughty is going on.
The club practices napping with limited success. The afternoon before the competition, Yuuta has a brainstorm, suggesting they stay up all night, thus they’ll be tired and ready to nap the next day. The club agrees and goes to Yuuta’s house to stay up all night playing games and such. However, eventually they all fall asleep so that the next day when they race to school, they are wide awake while their competition all look like they could drop off any second. Kumin thinks they can do it, recalling how the club was formed with Rikka. The competition starts with a trip to the chuunibyou realm, where battle in the slumber word begins. In the end, the club wins, thanks to Kumin. Kumin speaks of the dream she had, wondering if it was a dream.
Thoughts/Review:
Not a lot to talk about here, but a fun episode nevertheless.
The napping part of the Oriental Magic Napping Society in Summer Club doesn’t get a lot of play, so it was nice to have it and Kumin take center stage.
I laughed at the notion that a napping club is somehow a valid club whereas a club devoted to imaginations running wild is not.
Rikka having sleep paralysis was not funny to me. I’ve had that and it is not a pleasant experience to say the least. ^_^; I don’t remember being able to speak, but groan and possibly breathe hard to indicate to someone, “WAKE ME THE HECK UP!!!” ^_^;;;;;
Having the napping contest take place in a chuunibyou battle was fun. I liked Kumin wondering if the chuunibyou fight was a dream or not.
As always, it is fun having Sanae and Nibutani acting like sisters. ^_^
Why isn’t Satone in the club?
Finally, the lightning power setup that Rikka and Sanae set up made me smile.
As I said, not a lot to talk about, but I enjoyed the episode for what it was.
She’s been scolded for coming onto school grounds when it’s not her school. She should definitely be an honorary member, though. (^_^)
I missed something. I thought the reason she moved into Rikka’s old apartment and showed up at Yuuta’s school was because she transferred there. I didn’t realize she got in trouble for coming onto the school grounds. ^_^;;;
Episode 3, 11:42 of the Crunchyroll version. IIRC I missed it initially as well (the scene is only a couple of seconds), but I liked that episode enough that I watched it three or four times. I’m definitely a Shichimiya fan. (^_^);
Wow. It seems so obvious when I go back and rewatch that moment. ^_^;;; I can’t believe I missed it. Thanks for pointing that out. ^_^
