ハヤテのごとく!/Hayate no Gotoku Manga
Hayate the Combat Butler Chapter 456 Review
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
Sharna and Fumi are wondering what Ikusa does for a living when Isumi shows up, giving them all kinds of information about Ikusa that they didn’t ask for. Isumi is disgusted when she learns that Fumi wants to know if Ikusa has a girlfriend, but she agrees to help discover this information by asking Ikusa outright. Ikusa says he doesn’t have one, and doesn’t intend to have one, but he could fall in love with someone who shares the same values as him, naming the desire to save anyone in trouble, which is why he became a Lifesaver.
Despite Sharna’s legitimate concerns, Fumi is fired up about this and decides to go off and be a Lifesaver, helping those in need. Naturally, she encounters the dejected Hayate outside of the restaurant. Fumi decides to help, so Hayate decides it won’t hurt to tell her his problems. Upon learning that he needs to raise ¥8 million in two days, Fumi instinctively punches Hayate, but then calms herself and suggests he open a takoyaki stand since customers take that food away rather than eat in a restaurant.
Further, she tells the story of M-kun, who ran a takoyaki stand, but when he ran low on batter, he used water to fill up the batter container, and the customers continued to come. Of course his shop eventually went out of business because he eventually quit using batter.
Hayate wants a proper way to make money when Yukiji shows up, demanding ¥100-million, which Hayate doesn’t have. She claims to know a way to make ¥8 million in two days, but it is a scheme that Hayate knows will crash and burn. He starts to tell them that ridiculous ideas won’t get them anywhere, then stops himself short.
Thoughts/Review:
Heh!heh!heh! Two wins here — Isumi and Fumi. That means a good chapter. ^_^
I’ve been expecting Isumi to show up at some point, but I figured it would have been during the trip to the ghost-filled island of curry mix. Her arrival now could indicate that she’ll be helping Hina eventually.
That aside, Isumi made me laugh at her “leaking” of information that no one asked for and her admission that hanging out with her would cause her to leak out the most private of their information. *lol* Her disgust with Fumi’s reasons for wanting to know if Ikusa has a girlfriend made me laugh as well.
Fumi’s sudden decision to become a Lifesaver was a hoot. The biggest laugh of the chapter for me came from her brutally honest remark to Hayate about what she would normally do upon hearing his tale of woe. “Normally, I would poke you in the eyes and spit on you while looking down on you like garbage.” *lol* I’m still laughing at that one. ^_^
Having Yukiji show up out of the blue was completely unexpected. However, Hata-sensei isn’t letting the events of chapter 446.1 go to waste. ^_~
Finally, one wonders if Hayate came upon a possible solution to his problems, or if we are going to get another unexpected twist that has nothing to do with a solution to his problems. It will be fun to find out.
It was interesting to see Isumi showing a new expression. Initially I thought that she was being out of character but her way of helping Fumi allayed my fears. Just like Isumi to ask direct questions. XD
I am eagerly waiting for next chapter to know what Hayate observes. Is it another new development or is it some new way to get that money or is it some person he knows, (Dr. Kurosu, maybe?) 😉
But that’s Hata-sensei for you. (As you point out, he is unpredictable)
It would be quite funny if he sees Ruka coming. That would certainly let him reach the target, as Nagi, Ayumu, Athena, Hina are out of picture at the moment and can’t help him manage restaurant. Probably add Kotetsu XD
I was quite disappointed by report my friend gave about the new OVA. Seiyuu are changed. 🙁
I must say that I now read “Hayate no Gotoku!” only for the awesome and unique plot.
Yeah, I hear ya there. She’s never shown disgust before, but she quickly shifted to her normal method for doing things.
That would be highly unexpected, so much so that if it does happen, I’ll have to remember to give you props for thinking of it. However, I really don’t think Ruka would be there. After all, Sensei had Ruka and Hayate end say goodbye, and the two never have contact in the movie nor the CTMEOY series.
I admit that I haven’t been keeping up on the anime developments. I really haven’t been all that thrilled with how the anime part of the franchise has gone.
[…] really liked that Ruka got a flashback mention. Reader utkarshray mentioned that it would be funny if Ruka returned, and in a way, she did. If she shows up next […]
