UQ Holder Chapter 115 Manga Review (Mahora Festival redux, with kissing.)

ユーキューホルダー! Manga Review
UQ Holder Chapter 115

SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:

UQ Holder Chapter 115 With Yukihime having given Touta a choice, Touta goes off to absorb it. Kirie finds him looking depressed. He decides to skip his time with Shinobu and treats Kirie to tea and cake. She tells him he should talk about whatever is troubling him, but when he doesn’t take the hint to talk to her, she goes off on him. He pats her head and calls her cute, but says he wants to wander around a bit before talking. Thus he invites her to tag along with him.

They go around doing things together, as if on a date, with Touta constantly patting her head and calling her cute. She decides she has to know if he’s lying about thinking of her as cute, so she goes to ask him when a couple of boys knock her over, causing her to fall into Touta and kiss him. This causes time to stop again.

Touta is concerned about this, so Kirie is forced to kiss him in the open to resume time. When Touta realizes that Kirie’s powers can be activated by kissing him, he’s very excited about this. Then he has an idea about using her power to solve everything.

Thoughts/Review:

I smell Mahora Festival redux here.

UQ Holder Chapter 115

This chapter was similar to the “date” that Yue went on with Negi during the Mahora Festival in Negima. There, you had Negi depressed about something, Yue going along with him, and then Negi being encouraged in the end.

Although the chapter started out with the reminder that Touta has a choice, I have the strongest feeling that Touta wasn’t just thinking about that, but was also thinking about everything he has to do. I also base this on Negima, where Negi had all this stuff to do and time needed to be manipulated for him to do it all.

Here, I think he’ll have Kirie stop time, they’ll go to an event, resume time, do the event, then immediately stop time, head to the next event, resume time, and so forth. That way, he can hang out with Kuroumaru, Santa, Shinobu, and whomever else. UQ Holder chapter 115 would then cover the Kirie time for Touta.

That doesn’t mean that Touta isn’t also thinking about the choice Eva gave him. He may have some thought on using Kirie’s power to do whatever regarding Negi. I just have a feeling that won’t be the case for the near term.

Now watch Akamatsu-sensei just skip the tournament and everything and jump into Touta saving Negi and ending the manga. 😆

In the end, this chapter was mostly a Kirie x Touta ship chapter with the groundwork being lain for future events.

Thanks for making me miss Yue…. But it definitely had those vibes. Just needed Chamo teasing her.

    • sanchi says:

I hope Akamatsu-sensei does bring Chamo back – but unless he’s also immortal, he would be very old. I can see side-kick and chamo having heated arguments over nothing, and Chamo commenting on Tota’s harem.

Is this also the first time Kirie is shown going out on her own too, and without anyone else always with her? Another Negima trait – the girls as they train, become more self confident in and of themselves. She should train under Zazie too – and become more powerful.

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

      Heh! Yeah, Chamo was missing.

  2. ryuuya says:

I think he was only thinking about saving Negi. He wouldn’t be so depressed otherwise. He even says that he didn’t remember that he had to go at the prelims. It’s also impossible to stop events from occurring simultaneously.

You’re probably right. I just couldn’t shake the feeling that I wrote though.

  3. NML says:

Hmm, I wonder what Tota’s going to meet Shinobu about?
Maybe she’s looking for that guy from her flashback in chapter 2 that kinda looked like Takamichi.

I figure it is about the race, or the festival.

  4. exof954 says:

This was pretty fun- I’ve already said (I think) that Kirie’s my favorite of the haremettes, so suffice to say that I enjoyed this a lot more than I probably should.
Favorite part has to be the end of the chapter- the two kids who’d knocked her over looked at each other and went, “she warped.” “Yeah.” And just accepted it like that. Mahora is so much fun.

I mean, this literally means that time stops for them whenever they kiss. All the more reason to ship the best ship.

…I say that, but it’s pretty clear that Tota’ll spend the next few chapters stressing over this with everyone else so that they get their own chance to have a ‘date’ with him.

I do think he’ll get one on one time with the rest of the harem.

On the surface, I agree – but in the long haul, I think it permanently torpedoed the ship from multiple angles.

So if they kiss, it stops time. If this ever became a routine event, can you imagine how nerve-racking it would be to be anywhere near them? Not to mention that if they ever took it any farther, it would be like trying to watch Crunchyroll video on a bad day. *knock knock* “Touta, would y- I said, would- you pl- For f- Wou- STOP DOING IT!”

Not to mention that if they took it any farther: If pressing lips together stops time, what would that do? The “earth moving” would be the least of their worries. “Hey Dana, it looks like we need to update the catalog of time-space dimensions again… we just lost seventy-five and gained a hundred and three.” “I swear, those kids! Like rabbits, I tell you.”

Last but not least… didn’t we do this once already?

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

Well, time stops all around them, and no one would know that time had stopped. In private, it wouldn’t matter much, based on how easily they interact with the world where time has stopped.

  6. mattcgw says:

Can we just call the this Arc ‘immortal ReDux’, and be done with it.

  7. WMC says:

Save Negi and end this manga? Can’t be too soon.

  8. Seimei says:

Astro : Rooh! Astro! It’s not because YOU do not want to see the tournaments that everyone does not want to see it, lol!^^ Personnaly, I hope that the tournament will take place. Moreover, the longer it goes, the more I am convinced that the tournament will go hand in hand with the exploration of the solar system and Tota will save Negi in the final of the tournament.

In thi way, the end of the manga will be held at the same time as the end of the tournament. After that, Of course, I can be wrong and it can also be an equivalent of the arc “Mundus-magicus” after the tournament (And not, instead of tournaments lol^^).

But I wonder if, as I say, Akamatsu will not merge the tournament arc and the “war against the life-maker” arc, in a single arc ^^

I think in fact, Kirie will use her power to enable Tota keep all his commitments, I agree with you on this idea. But I also wonder if kirie’s power could not be the key to save Negi!

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

I mainly kid about the manga winding down rapidly, as there’s been no sign of that, but the thought just popped into my head.

  9. Rob C. says:

I’m worried now, things are getting jumbled. Is Akamatsu-sensei trying to end the manga early?

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

I was joking about that, based on how he suddenly ended Negima, and how Hata-sensei is suddenly pushing the pedal to the metal to end Hayate the Combat Butler. I don’t know that Akamatsu-sensei is planning to end the manga early.

      • Rob C. says:

I read the manga before i read your review actually. The speeding up to ending/rushed story arch feel I’m getting was from reading this past article. Thus why I’m bit concern. I hope your right it’s not being rushed. I feels disjointed after the Touta hasn’t done anything to earn a place in the tournament, now Negi’s pending absorption by the Mage from the Beginning seems to be more closer than before.

I was actually expecting more world building, with Touta getting into the contest and traveling to the middle station above Neo-Tokyo, where people from different parts of the Solar System are gathering.

        • AstroNerdBoy says:

We may get all that. The problem is that Akamatsu-sensei’s approach to UQH was trying to be casual and tell whatever story he wanted, similar to how Fairy Tail is done. However, fans don’t want that. Once UQH was linked with Negima, fans wanted UQH to pick up all those plot points from Negima. So recently, I think Akamatsu-sensei has been changing things to make UQH more like Negima in having a story flow vs. randomness. However, this does present some problems, but in the end, if Akamatsu-sensei makes UQH with a good story structure (complete with exploring the backgrounds of other characters), then UQH will be a better manga.

But, there is a chance that Akamatsu-sensei is tired of dealing with manga and is ready to retire and become an editor or something.

          • Rob C. says:

I don’t like that possibility. No one can force him to do anything, we can only hope he’s enjoying himself and ignoring the haters and the complainers. UQ Holders will have bad ending if possibility comes true.

          • AstroNerdBoy says:

I don’t think the haters would play that big a role on things. It is more about him being in his later 40s and not being able to do what the younger manga-ka can do.

  10. sanchi says:

“Now watch Akamatsu-sensei just skip the tournament and everything and jump into Touta saving Negi and ending the manga.”

I’d better start looking for a new desk – maybe one made from metal, or I’ll just whack a pillow. 🙂

Theory: I think we are seeing the beginning of the Super ‘Tota Solution’ using the time-stop of Kirie, provided nothing happens to Kirie or Tota to activate this power.

First they need to refine it so to find a way of bringing others in and out of this time-stop dimension. Specifically Negi and then the MotB

If they grab Negi, with time stopped, the MotB is also frozen in time and cannot use the resonance on Negi, but he is stuck there for if time continues so does the resonance control. Might be the way to get Negi far enough away beyond the control of the MotB’s resonance power, or use the time-stop for Negi to recover and till they grab the MotB and send Negi back at the same time.

If they grab the MotB and find a way to keep her locked in time, her suffering from infinite empathy would stop, for there are no other humans/people, since everyone is frozen in time and no thoughts of pain to transmit to the MotB. Only the past empathy may remain. Another idea would be for creating a trap for the MotB in that time-stop dimension, and leave her there trapped in no time forever, and unable to find a new victim.

Make sure it is extra thick to spare yourself damage. 😉

As to your theory, we’ll see. ^_^

  11. mattcgw says:

I hope that shaft does end up producing the anime, that way the studio can embezzle the money into Madoka 4 and more Urobuchi cosmic slaughter. The series impressed me great deal.

  12. Super Touta says:

a giveout(cover: the present for 100 people, a T-Shirt with the motive of a nude Eva embracing (the wearer) )
the application ticket, cut of at the (butt crack) and attached it to a postcard
please write your name and address, age and phonenumber

〒119-0181 Tokyo Koishikawa post office, post office box No 11 “UQ Holder! T-shirt” till No 16, deadline is 2016/03/30(wednesday), with a validity postmark for that day

    And now the chapter

A ‘mouth to mouth’ with Kiriwe stops time
Touta, who wants to use this ability, pretends to check it and makes 3 kisses until Kiriwe collapses
Kiriwe “do not to toy with the lips of a young lady!”
He is knocked down by Kiriwe

Anyhow, Touta reunites with Kuroumaru, Karin, Santa and Ikkuu
He reports them the the story as he heard it from Yukihime
For Negi, who is possed by the MotB, should he choose to lend his hand to Yukihime who wants to fulfill his dying wish?
Or should he choose the methode of saving Negi together with Fate?
Touta was pondering about it, but it didn’t fully become clear to him, he doesn’t accept to do as told by both of them as valid
“Therefore, Kuroumaru and you all, I have full faith in you, so please lend me your strength!”

■Without any hesitation! The path Touta chose is the one with his friends!!

This time my disguise is perfect. Muhahahaha

    • AstroNerdBoy says:

      Thanks as always. Actually, this time, I was not busy, but sleeping. I got my first weekend off in ages, so I was out cold. ^_^;
